For the record, these guys were hired as model dancers. They never claimed to hav been writer or singer, check the ALBUM COVER and the SECOND album they were putting out they were explaining the story till "SOMEBODY, ?mr producer?" did NOT FOLLOW thru. IF U LISTEN 2 the LYRICS it is COMMICAL n the LAUGH is on THOSE who TOOK THIS PERSONALLY. That's not it though, it's that it wasn't their voices on the album. The vocalists on the album were not thought to be photogenic enough by the manager, so they found the dancer/models Rob and Fab to pretend to be the singers. Rob and Fab wanted to sing on the albums but Frank (manager/band creator) didn't like their singing, and got them to sign contracts just for dancing and acting but not providing the voices.

It's very sad, for both the actual singers and for Rob/Fab.

They didn't even know they were going to just be lip-synching when it started. They had signed a contract without any lawyers or managers thinking they were singing and were given a record company advance to support themselves, since they were poor at the time, which indebted them to the producer. Then, when it was time to record, the producer told them they would be just lip-synching. Rob & Fab themselves caused the truth to finally come out because they didn't want to lie anymore to people.

Rob didn't really kill himself. He had been battling drug addiction, particularly cocaine since Milli Vanilli first blew up in U.S. and he had went through rehab 11 times. He was suicidal certainly, but he died of an overdose, which was a lethal combination of alcohol and pills.
