i don't understand the highest rated comments but are you saying this song is bad??!!!! this is not a bad song if you think that why did you search this song?
fuckin amazing, been listening to them for the past 6 years, and it only gets better. ps loved the side project paul (julian plenti) & i miss carlos :[. see you guys on nov.5! :D
@hightimesbruce sorry just because you might not understand does not make it retarded ! I have to kindly disagree, and i think the lyrics seem simple but he is more of a poet , not your" mass media" tap that ass music!!
I understand it just fine. His lyrics are stupid, and the rhyme scheme is lazy. The band themselves have said numerous times that they don't care about the lyrics; that they're written secondary to the music.
@hightimesbruce hmmm ....I never really investigated theband maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part..whats a fairly modern band that does not have stupid lyrics??
@hightimesbruce Actually paul has said that the lyrics are written abstract so that the listener can decide the meaning for themselves. Doesnt make them retarded by any means just a little more mysterious i would say. IF you want plain to the point lyrics just listen to the radio, its full of mindless rants about pointless sht but you should be able to understand that. Music is art and therefore up for many interpretations. Yours may be retarded, but im guessing it may be the listener.
I really think their sound has matured. This song is amazing and has beautiful melodies. I really really like it and love their new direction. I have more respect for bands like Interpol and the Smashing Pumpkins who go in new directions with each album instead of reusing the same successful formula like Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chilli Peppers (whos latter albums all sound the same.
This song is obviously about their movement from Matador to Epic Records, then back. The first stanza is directed at the fans: "I would not leave you without a kiss, but I guess there must come a time..."
Interpol are the "thieves and snakes" that need homes, so they went to Epic Records (I love them, but that's my interpretation)
The blind leading sightless part is about how the band can't possibly speak for you since they can't speak for themselves.
But just so you know, I love the band. From TOTBL to OLTA, and now with their self-titled release. They remain one of my favorite snare-heavy, guitar-laden, bass-throbbing indie bands of all-time, and a few attempts to make more money don't bother me. In fact, I'd probably've done the same if offered a deal to Epic Rec. or anywhere else.
@ShopliftersUnite I assume it would be Lights as that has the music video and was released first as a free download by Interpol which imo is a good choice, sounds like a perfect song to re-introduce Interpol and let people know they're back ^^
this song has an Antics sort of feel to it... very very good! i hope they turn on the bright lights once again and give us some more masterpieces like PDA and NYC
I think it has to be "how much fear can you fabricate" in the penultimate stanza instead of the usual "it starts to feel like a barricade", just to keep the lyrics clean ;)
Im a big fan of Interpol but idk still, im not sure about this album , im sure im gonna like it but not at the point to go and buy it , ill have to listen to more singles when they come out :/ ...
@JoeyJoeJoeJunior22 i know , who says i dont like em ? ive been a fan of em for years , since Antics came out ;) and i have the 3 albums with special edition. I just dont like ``so much´´ their new style, i still preffer Julian plentis work than Interpol new songs. Anyway , as i said before , I wont be 100% sure till the new album comes out and untill I listen to all the songs.
I think it'll take me a few songs to finally get used to the style of this album (only heard this and lights so far) but Im not "not liking" it. I like it, it's just a little unique. (Course isn't that the definition of Interpol's style?
@caimmizard yeah you are right I miss Carlos, he is the best bass in alternative rock :(, Anyone knows the name of the new member of Interpol? and i'm not talking about the bassist, the other one I don't remember how it's called that instrument xD lol
Haters gonna hate. Sounds great IMO. EVERY BAND has had some sort of influence in their life that they drew from. Interpol had Joy Division. Joy Division had The Doors. and so on.
@rybaker777 i know what you mean. At first i hated this song. but after two weeks i have finally come to like it and now im slowly starting to love it. It has taken a little more than 3 listens for me to like it though heheh
Joy Division was one of the bands responsible for introducing post-punk music, but as quick as it came, it faded out.
Interpol along w/ other bands became part of a movement known as post-punk revival, revolutionizing the genre and adapting for a new generation.
So if it were not for people like Paul Banks, Ian Curtis would mean nothing to younger people today. Be grateful for Interpol, they are the ones immortalizing Joy Division, not you.
@0bstakle1 um excuse me i think i did not get your comment but ... what the hell ? ure getting it wrong , If it wasnt for Joy division , The Pixies and the legacy Ian Curtis R.I.P left us,such amazing bands like this, the killers, U2. cut city chapel club etc..wouldnt have ever existed or be the same. And what do you mean with ``as quick as it came it faded out´´ yea it is true, but the little time they were on stage was enough to touch the hearts of millions of ppl and still do it after 30 year
@KxK96 you're only proving my point. I agree with you, Joy Division helped usher in a new genre and opened the door for all those awesome groups you listed.
My comment was for those assh*les that think Interpol is nothing but a mere cover band. That isn't true, and it really pisses me off to hear that. Interpol is as original as it can get, I NEVER heard a band like them. Paul Banks is a genius.
@0bstakle1 agreed, but u know what? i saw their new video of Lights in one of those pop random channels on TV. I hope they dont turn into some commercial band cuz that would really piss me off -.- .
Nonsense? What are YOU saying? Does nonsense get 40+ thumbs up? Do some research buddy. Interpol and Joy Division, both post-punk. I've been listening to this music for years.
ahahahaah yeah yeah whatever...if interpol are post-punk the stone roses are hardcore producers....c'mon..u've been listening to this music for years??? well u should try to open up your eyes man...40 thumbs up= 40 people knowing a shit 'bout independent music...
Ok for joy division but there' s no point on interpol...
@0bstakle1 yea true bro after post punk era came the revival which introduced interpol and other bands that made the genre more mainstream, first came post punk then the post punk revival like obstakle said. interpol wasnt part of the joy division era post punk but the new scene which popularized it.and yea true interpol is immoratalizing joy division and recognizing the genre they created

@xDeadMisfitsx you're missing the point too. my point is EVERY piece of music is art. I don't have any authority over anyone, only what resonates inside me. I'm not gonna discuss this anymore as it seems to be about as conclusive as a religious debate. Btw, I've been a fan since I heard the black sessions on the radio. it was all TOTBL (i loved it) *now ill delete my seemingly gratuitous comments so we can all enjoy Interpol in peace :)

The intro is really sick, actually I've been listening to this song since its release. Why are they able to write songs like this? They're f"** great!!
