I was playin midevil 2 total war. And i was england. My closest ally russia. Invaded by second most trusted ally. I had a choice betray the church or brake the trust that me and the russians had. What started as a simple trade agreement turned into a friendship of trust. In blood and steel. From the mongol invasions were we repelled seemingly undless hoards. We joined the crusades of jerulslum.... I betrayed them..... DAMN wait i saved the game before that decison NEVERMIND EVERYONE!
The crusaders were sent to the Holy Land because of the land hungry Muslims who invaded the Byzantine Empire. The Crusaders were sent as a response to the attack against the Byzantines, and rightfully so.
@famousjonnyk And less than two hundred years later, Western Crusaders who were sent to defend Byzantium and Outremer ended up sacking Constantinople itself, which futher weakened the Empire and helped spur Turkish conquest. That Crusade didn't even make it to the Frankish Crusader Kingdoms because Constantinople was a better target.
The Crusades were about 20 percent piety and 80 percent loot.
@archer1949 and after we weakened our own brothers, islam continued to murder armenians and iranians, and now serbians, they creep closer and closer to the heart of europe
@famousjonnyk rightfully so brother, and we do not forget the slaughter of our brothers in armenia, byzantium and aryans of iran, we see them in kosovo. the war continues, stay vigilant and keep a keen eye on the truth. the war has not ended.
Actually Richard and Saladin reached a good agreement at the end of the 3rd Crusade, I think. The reason Richard was in prison, there had been an argument between the Christians and one of Richard's men had thrown someone's standard on the ground.
Then on Richard's way back through Austria, a friend of the one who was slighted captured him and charged a ransom of about 20,000 marks, estimated to be equal to 1 year's GNP of England at the time.
It is a little deeper than that. Control of Germany, or namely the Holy Roman Empire, for years had been contested between the Welf family and the Hohenstaufen family. Richard was related to (or was it allies with?) the Welfs, but the Hohenstaufens were now in power. The Duke of Austria was a Hohenstaufen supporter and Richard insulted him and other Hohenstaufen supporters at any chance during the crusade. So, when given the chance for revenge, the Duke of Austria did well.
brutality of the crusaders.... and what about muslims. the turks. are they saints? one of the causes of the crusades was the brutality of the muslims against catholic pilgrims.
sorry mate, i down thumbed u, i misread ur comment, but u are so right, muslim attacked inoscent pilgrims, cuz they are noobs. WE SHOULD HAVE WON THE WAR, BUT WE DIDNT
@StoneAngel123 Because Christians in that time CERTAINLY NEVER killed innocents because of their religion (coughjewscoughmuslimscough.
Europe learned its first lesson then about how its interference with the rightful lands of others brings only hate and misery, and should have remembered it instead of bringing the millions of deaths and crushing poverty and opression resulting from the Age of "Exploration" and Imperialism. There shouldn't have even been a war
@peloavila Christian soldiers continuesly destroyed each other in civil conflicts within Europe. The pope found this terrible so he directed their attention towards the Holy Land. This is why the Christians entered our lands. Not due to the brutality of the Muslims, but rather the brutality of your own men. Muslims were massacered and eradicated within the city of Jerusalem during the first crusade, yet eventually we regained our lands back.
@MrAhmad9843 <===== F U MUSLIM FANATIC BASTARD ... go watch your shit propaganda muslim videos ... we know well what bastards you are ..get lost donkey
@peloavila This shows how IGNORANT you are!! There was free passage for all people, for all religions, to the Holy Land at that time. Catholic pilgrims and everybody else were welcomed as normal people and guests bc people that travel always spend money and cause "tourism". The only cause of the crusades was just economic greed and warfare and to distract from the own failings!!
Hi! I'm a student of Medieval history by training and one of my areas of study is actually the Crusades era. You're actually subscribing to an out-dated concept of the Crusades born more out of modern arrogance than historical reality. What we find is that /theoretically/ access to Jerusalem for Pilgrims was open, but the /practical/ nature of the travel was very different, with both Muslims and Muslim authorities being very wishy washy on the issue.
For example, many Pilgrims in the Great German Pilgrimage of the 1060s were killed by Muslims; both raiders and by local Emirs. On the other hand, other Muslim authorities /would/ encourage pilgrimage; it depended upon the individual Emir. In fact, Amin Maalouf, the author of "The Crusades Through Arab Eyes" notes that one of the failings of Islamic society was that their rule tended to devolve into despotic individual "interpretations" of Islamic law.
To show the difference, Christians and Jews both theoretically had protected legal status under Islamic law; however this was also subject to individual interpretations. For example, the Fatimid Caliph Abu Ali al–Mansur al–Hakim was infamous for the destruction of Christian properties and potential slaughter of Christians and Jews(I'd have to read more on that. I personally haven't seen the Primary Source evidence for this; that doesn't mean it doesn't exist).
@karkrashful Exactly. The Crusades were needlessly and ruthlessly bloody, and to praise streets "piled with heads and hands and feet" or the sight of the (Jewish!!) Temple of Solomon filled with blood up to your horse's knees, "nay, the very bridle," was not uncommon. To ignore that as if the Christians were totally innocent is extremely dishonest and cruel.

As someone who enjoys both early music AND Bananarama, I have to say, this is just plain awesome. All of it--the song, the description, everything.
