  • Ambrosia Parsley

  • Who's the lovely backup singer (in the bronze dress) to Elvis's left?

  • This was great....Loved it!!!

  • He certainly ripped up... he ripped it to pieces. I'd be very disappointed if I was Neil.

  • Thanks for the upload! We used to think Elvis was gay until he did Radio Radio on SNL. He's one of the most talented musicians out there. Being a hard core Neil Young fan, I give this a total "thumbs up". Elvis fat guitar and very cool back up singer ; ) ....great rendition! Purple words on a gray background .....

  • He doesnt compare to Neil Young. Neil Young can out play and outsing this solo with an acoustic guitar.

  • What a great cover .Elvis Costello does this tune like Neil Young ragged ,real ,and manic

  • Wow this was one of the best versions of this song I have heard.

I never knew that Elvis Costello shreds until I saw this. Not only that but his intensity is on par with Neil Young with raw emotion coming out.

Thank you for posting this! Bravo!

  • Those backup singers are rockin' the whole "hot nerd chick" vibe..

  • He is up the neck playing but that is not Elvis playing those riffs. There are two other guitarist. The fellow on His right which you only see at the end of the video is the one playing the leads,.

  • @mrmusic Uh so? He's the director and out front performer. Seems like you expect him to do even more? Lighten up and enjoy a great performance!

  • I ran into the Man at Chelsea Guitars a few years ago, shortly after seeing him blister the solo on Love that Burns... I said, "I had no idea you played like that," and he said "I've been doing it for quite a while."

  • a songwriter such as Elvis should understand the importance of the lyrics to the story of the song...I'm surprised he screwed them up...nice "pop" version of the song, though...

  • son do na take life so serious ,you die early on that road, I know...

  • Great song by Neil, Elvis did ok.

  • Just when you think that you are the only b**ger in the world that loves this stuff, along comes Costello to prove that you were right all along.

  • when you think you're the only b**ger in the world that loves this stuff, along comes a Costello video that proves what you thought all along, Neil Young is a God

  • @pantingdogs - by b**ger do you mean burger??? Life too short to keep devils in the head man.

  • fuck elvis, both of them

  • most definatly not neil young,he murdered this song

  • Why post some thing with such bad audio is beyond me. The video is great,

  • Elvis is great, don't get me wrong, I just think it's funny that he sings with such an affectation. Like Bruce...and Jim, Elvis is/was a great song writer who can't sing.

  • @willrobm. Well obviously you are some kind of idiot, and if you were here right now I would staple your lips shut! I will be seeing EC next month from the Third row and after seeing him 4 times before, I can clearly say that he never shows off, he just puts on a great show! His record speaks for himself!

  • Totally unconvincing.

  • This stupid animal who can't play Neil Young belongs to a short list of Nazis who decided to boycott Israel like the Nazis did from 1933 till 1945. But there is thanks God a long list of real poets and composers who came and continue to come to play in Israel. People who really don't like Costello and friends. People like Paul Mc Cartney, Elton John, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, Deep Purple, Madonna, former Michael Jackson etc. May Costello burn in Hell.

  • @davidorbachmusic ... name calling and name dropping that's what ur about so do us all a favor and go fuck urself asshole ... stop playing politics with R&R ...

  • Declan McManus has chops!

  • Freakin' genius cover by a great musician. He makes it his own. The guy can turn a ballad into a rocker - same as Nick Lowe's "Peace, Love and Understanding". Nick does that one low, slow and plaintive, like Neil does Cowgirl, but Elvis turns both of those around, sublimely, into killer rock songs. Love this guy and his contribution to the rock canon.

  • @nowlifeisgood66 have you heard neil young's electric version of cowgirl in the sand? IMO way more of a "rocker" than this and alot better put together. but costello definitely made this his own

  • Actually I totally hate this. Elvis Costello should either do his own shit or disappear.

  • @perkxplosion duh

  • I guess I don't understand why he

covers this... Maybe I wouldn't ask questions if Elvis Costello was ever played on the radio post Austin Powers sound track?

  • stupid solos

  • I've always HATED Elvis Costello. Everything about him. He looks like a nerd clown and sings horribly and to see him butcher Neil's classic is disgusting. The girl in the filmy black dress is muy caliente and then some, though.

  • @chiennoir54 and Neil Young and Willie Nelson and Tom Petty sing nasally, like someone is holding their nose..and Willie Nelson looks like an old hippie..my point? It doesn't matter what someone looks like or sings like(Young or Petty or Nelson or even Tom Waits),he's a brilliant songwriter. If he wasn't,then McCartney or Burt Bacharach wouldn't even have asked him to collaborate..I've always HATED so called rock stars like Bret Michaels or Bon Jovi or even Sting who THINK they're great..

  • @chiennoir54 yeah, a small mind will make same people think that way...

  • First Elvis Costello song I have ever heard in my life. not to bad. I'll be lloking into other music by him.

  • his voice hurts my ears, menos puntos

  • Nice to be Elvis!

  • this weirds me out. who knew Costello could "rip it up" on electric?

  • "Awesome..Well done Elvis!"

  • this is pretty cool. normally i don't like people taking on neil songs, but elvis, you're alright in my books.

  • The woman in black is Jenni Muldaur, daughter of Geoff and Maria. She made a rather overproduced solo album in 1992 but an absolutely great one in 2009,

    "Dearest Darlin'." Strong, powerful stuff.

  • Arthur Askey does NY!

  • yakkss..!

  • Really nice job Elvis.

  • that is a nice fucking guitar.

  • who knew?

  • Along with Neil Young, Elvis Costello is one of the greatest and most essential song writers and performer of our generation! People do not realize what a great guitar player he is. Like Bruce Springsteen, these guys can rip but just choose not to. They are not "show offs"!

  • @Stax63... "They're not show-offs ... " WTF that's one of the biggest bozo statements ive ever heard regarding rock n roll ... EVER ... maybe u should stop taking ur meds ... and get over yourself ...

  • @Stax63 WHAT, BY HOLDING 1 NOTE AND BENDING FOR 3 MINS??? LOL what he did was not very difficult! i been playing 4 years and i could do what he just done!

  • Personally I've never seen what the big deal is with this guy. And this cover is no exception. His wife, Diana Krall, is by far a better musician.

  • @FredThaHead Diana is a fine musician, hardly an innovator or even vaguely original, though. Really good elevator jazz. it's hard for a lot of people to get past EC's attitude and caustic singing and realize what he has been to rock and roll. Fuckin' icon.

  • Elvis is a good guitarist but not in Neil's league but he has his own great style. I always wonder what one great artist admires in another great one and this surprised me. I was thinking more of Neil with Buffalo Springfield "I am a Child"

  • is he just trying to play like neil for this song or does he always play like neil?

  • It sounds like he morphed the two songs, Down By The River and Cowgirl In The Sand. It sounds great!

  • @gregrchstr Actually he changed the key, which put it closer to Down by the River

  • @gregrchstr These two songs are almost the same music and were written together. It's hard to play one without invoking the other. Check the liner notes.

  • @beyondChairs -kan u spel OCD???

  • really underrated guitarist

  • Comment removed

  • The woman in the Black Dress..........just incredible!!

  • This is terrible. Worst cover ever.

  • @whatbum AGREED, whatbum. Of course y'all mean it's the BEST cover ever, right? Number fuckin' ONE!! No one does Neil quite like Elvis, and bless Mr Costello for that....YEAH BABY!! Costello covers are always awesome -- Prince, Bread, Lou Reed -- always great picks and interesting takes.

  • @Brianjonestown What other Neil songs does Elvis cover? Thanks in advance!

  • replete with porkpie, wailing p-90, leather trousers, and whoever that is (!?!) singing w/him, whatever it takes, the man pulls this horse from his sleeve and takes us for a ride

  • sod the Gibson.. what about the chick in the black dress ..yea baby.

  • I would like to correct Nazerun.. The Gibson he is playing is NOT a Super 400.. He is playing a 1948

Gibson ES 300N .. the reason I know, is cos we sold it to him at the music store that I work at. :)

  • Great cover by Elvis. Thanks for posting this,. Earl; I heard the show didn't start rockin' until Elvis came on stage.

I heard he did Cinnamon girl, too. Any chance you've got that one?

  • He rocks! I also liked how lighting wasn't too flashy and trashy- very theatrical! Designed by BoydDesign, Inc

  • It's a Gibson Super 400, Costello plays it on 'Monkey to Man' from the Delivery Man album.

  • Looks like a Gretsch to me...

  • This is amazing! Does anyone know what type of guitar that is? I love it!
