I disagree. He's speaking up and saying what was true at the time. Although it may be different now and therefore seem inappropriate, at that time it was clearly relevant. He used that opportunity to address something that a lot of people probably thought about but couldnt comment on, but he was doing it in a non threatening way, trying to make light of a topic that was anything but. So I don't think he's fuelling any fires, if anything he's call people on things that shouldnt have been ignored.
