  • he talks like Garrison Keillor.. I can't stand his voice.

  • Favorited before it was over

  • I was about 7-8 and I was in the ocean in Miami with my brother and my grandparents and me and my grandfather got sucked into the undertow and then I woke up on the beach with my bathing suit unbuttoned and a Dentist standing over me...weird.

  • I'd push Diego off the pier, just as he finished telling his drowning story;and laugh while he went down,

and make damn sure the last words he heard; were that his limp and lifeless body will never again be found

As his useless life flashed before his eyes, I'd chuckle at his last gasp until his last dip underneath

then I throw him a concrete life preserver that had his name on it,with the words "here's hoping you enjoy your well deserved endless sleep",

  • I once drowned in 5 foot deep water. I was 5'4 when this happened . . .

  • amazing!

  • Most depressing video ever.

  • watch?v=ysNd4QGOgeY

  • What program did you use? Please put thumbs up so that he can see- thanks.

  • I'ts OK

  • I must have watched it a thousand times since it was posted.

    Truly inspirational for me.

  • is this rotoscoping?

  • DMT...

  • i ended up not breathing for half of the video.

  • life is but a vapor then poof you're gone. Perhaps it's the brain, the conscience, the soul, dealing with all that made you happy and all you regret. Guess we'll have to wait till we get there to see for ourselves. I just want to know I'm right with God and my sins are long gone thanks to Jesus--then what follows won't be so scary.

  • WONDERFUL!

  • wow

but I really dislike the guys voice

he just sounds like he wants to finish his day at work and get the fuck out

  • sounds vaguely nihilistic

  • this is soo beutiful

  • My personal experience of my "life flashing before my eyes" was not of my past life experiences, but my present life situation. My wife, my kids, the things I left undone, and the people who matter to me who may or may not be affected by my absence, but most of all, God -if He'd spare me. Maybe it was adrenaline acting as steroids on my brain to cram in all my worries, stress, joys, and pleasures into a single moment to spur me into the frantic action that lead to my unexplainable survival..?..

  • I like the animation, but the story is high up its ass

  • @Tonkunura Thats 90% of art.

  • The animation is great & this is really good and all but the narrator's voice doesn't seem to fit too well..

  • Booooooooorrrrrrrrrring

  • @greenday101195 Uuuuuuuuuuuseleeeeeeeeeeeeessssss.

  • wow sick narration.

  • 1:02 LMAO chug chug chug!!!

  • As if we really have any choice at the moment of our death....

  • don't worry in about 2-3 days the gaseous buildup insideyour corpse will LIFT LIFT LIFT you back to the surface!

  • @freebearride before the rotting opens holes that let the gas escape and you descend for the final time

  • bullshiters keep bullshitting

  • Couldve been narrated by Kevin Spacey!

  • I wish Alan Rickman narrated this video. :)

  • Well it wont with this kind of attitude.

  • Damn

  • I want David Duchovny narrating this video.

  • This guy is putting me to sleep, droning on and on with his one-tone voice.

  • @krazyknoxy I can see how you might say that; it is a subjective matter. I actually like the monotone voice. Most people speak of death with fear or apprehension or avoidance, whereas the speaker's tone here has a nonchalant, indifferent, quite frankly bored tone, adding to the sort of gruesome despair of it all, and the sort of morbid acceptance of death as a fact - it's kind of sardonic, even. It's just perfect to me. :)

  • what a Masterpiece!

  • Quite frankly, our life is tedious enough- the quicker the review the better.

However for those interested in a more leisurely replay free of trauma and risk of death,we recommend dimethyltriptamine- "DMT". It is found in mimosa tree and canary reed grass.

  • @WetlandsRemediation

    Spot on. xD

  • If I drown, my life will flash before my eyes and my memory of this stupid video will pop up, proving this video wrong and then we'll see who has the last laugh!

  • Such an interesting movie.I think drowning better than burning. When u are burning u cant live these things.

  • @hndsadventure Try both.

  • @The1stPoster It should be hard.But i'll try:P

  • This guy should do audio books

  • @HeyLookItsASpah its billy collins, he does do audio books

  • shoot me if im drowning...

  • Did anybody else find this awful and generally uninteresting? I tried my hardest to get interested but it just wasnt going to happen.

  • LOVE THIS, so much...

    I am drowning.

  • this remind me a part of a song called common people by pulp

  • the art of pooping

  • Can anyone PLEASE tell me...which graphical course should I take or which software should I own or whatever that helps me create something like this! I'd die to know!

  • @AyyoThugni Probably something like Flash

  • @CGSiino Rotoscoping?

  • @AyyoThugni Hmm no, Rotoscoping would be more with After Effects and in this case I don't think that's what they used.

  • great words

  • an amazing piece of work, both the words and the toon. an absolute gift of poetry.

  • The Art of Drawning

  • Well that was.......depressing...

  • isnt it so strangee no one comments how brilliant the delivery in the short ? frame by frame drawing man this very cool .

  • I knew it was Billy Collins right when he started speaking!

  • Deep

  • I once survived drowning in a pool. I was rescued by a fella half my height and half my age who smiled and asked me what I was doing in the deep end.

  • @agnelkurian and what were you doing>

  • bottom line - suicide is nothing to look forward to

  • what a debbie downer.....

  • semplicemente sensazionale!

  • fantastic graphics...animation. very convincing!

  • YOUSHOULDN'THAVEDONETHAT

  • Wow, amazing animation!

  • nice drawings

  • I believe its possible to see your life flash before your eyes... "Chemical reactions that occur while the brain shuts down" besides, it seems pretty likely that in your final moments you'll be thinking about what you did right in your life... or what you did wrong.

  • @Jspheonix but dont you think in your final moments you'll be too concerned with the matter at hand, thinking "oh shit, oh shit im drowning!" It seems to me that instinct, panic and panic will take the person over leaving no time for thoughtful contemplation.

  • Apparently that flash before our eyes is our brain racing through our life experiences in an attempt to find a memory that could help us get out of whatever life-threatening situation is happening to us at the time.

  • actually you trip on DMT when you die. you do this during birth and heavy REM sleep, too.

  • When i was 10 i drowned by trying to reach the end of the pool while swimming underwater, later i got revived by mouth to mouth resusetation. While losing conscience everything stated spinning, from blue of the pool to black, a black spinning vortex with licht at the end. When i reached, was in the spinning vortex of licht, the spinning slowed down until i reached conscience again. I never had fear or pain. I just felt sick and blaim the spinning vortex expiriance to lack of oxigen to my brain.

  • I'd be o.k. with a fish.

  • Lol, this dude's a peeping tom.

  • Did anybody else think of A Scanner Darkly when they watched this?

  • @k28xl yeah, but more similar to "a waking life" from the same director of A scanner Darkly,

  • the fish is nothing, that's what it is. it should be something like your whole life that is flashing one last time before your eyes but in fact the film says, nothing like that will happen. once you choose to drown you cannot expect to have some magical experience in the end. that's at least my point of view.

  • lolwut?

  • This guy seems aroused about drowning my god!

  • How can they have commercials for youtube vids longer then two mins??? That is very annoying.

  • I now know how to properly drown. Thank you for this PSA video.

  • I think the act of your life flashing through your eyes is your instinct of survival. Its your mind trying going through your whole life and trying to think of any way to combat the situation.

  • I love the animation style.^_^

  • when you are about to drown you think of the pain your friends and family will go through and you just want to fight death's grip and you can win

  • Wow. What a buzzkill.

  • Because of that comment i only noticed the fish

  • at 0:56 he's on the can LOL

  • the animation is awsome!!

  • The art of drowning i wonder how it all got started this business about seeing your life flash before your eyes while you drown, as if panic or the act of submergence could startle time into such compression, crunching decades in the vice of your desperate final seconds after falling of a steam ship or being sweep away in a rush of flog waters would you hope for a more regular review

  • this was brilliant

  • these videos really mean a lot more when your high

  • @talktomebitch905 I second that.

  • @talktomebitch905 preeech brother lol

  • @talktomebitch905 I'm sure they only seem to because of the state of mind one is in. It doesn't really mean more than what the person talks about, but your mind is too busy realizing how deliriously happy you are to take any notice of that.

  • 35 people drowned

  • it happened to me... the short movie, but hopefully I didn`t see the fish, I`ve been rescued. take care, and learn to swim!!!

  • it happened to me, the short movie, but hopefuly I did not see the fish because I m here// it wasn`t funny// I`ve been rescued. take care!!! and learn to swim!!!

  • freakin awesome

  • wATCH cUBE dESTINATION

  • Kinda sounds like Nicolas Cage.

  • Morbid... Time to buy a float!

  • Loved it.

  • Muy bueno Diego!

  • @HoangBui92.. no, I see it too xD...some ppl arent patient enough to wait till the credits appear.. though he does sound a bit like N.Cage!

  • Narrator: Billy Collins ~ Am I the only one who sees this in the credits? Why so many people say Nicholas Cage??

  • Nicholas Cage??

  • Well done!

  • wow

  • when i drown, i'm gunna think about the time i took a poo

  • @awesomeDP i saw that part, when the guy was on the crapper. this video is hilarious:D

  • very, very good

  • well , this was weird :))

  • Well... I like fish^^

  • weirdest video

  • Amazing, I love it. No I love futureshorts, for showing this to us.

  • narration by nicholas cage

  • wow ..

  • Wow

  • I believe that fish should have received more attention than it did. The fish is everything.

  • @maximylyanovich hhaahaha

  • @maximylyanovich The fish is war, the fish is life, the fish is... rollerball.

  • Kinda lame. All that was done here was to take an excellent poem by Billy Collins, tack on some straightforward interpretation of the words, and you have a future short? Sorry, no.

  • @theDrGreg1 Wow, really?? I guess we differ, because where more people would want to take an allegorical approach, it's sometimes refreshing to go back to basics. It was a fine animation and wonderfully narrated, wasn't the least bit pretentious, which further drove home the point. ;)

  • @TheDoodlibop I guess I just want more out of FutureShorts - the music videos, the adverts for some upcoming movie-to-be, and this straight-forward "interpretation" are not avante-garde in my view. Especially this, because it is Billy Collins actually reading his poem, so there is no "narration". The question then becomes, what does the animation add to the already great poem?

  • @theDrGreg1 Quite a bit, imho. I think it's a humorous touch. Maybe you've been a subscriber to futureshorts longer than I, so you notice differences that bother you, but it's all quite nice to me. ^^

  • @theDrGreg1 Well sometimes the most effective things are the simplest. I mean, however can you expect the complex without the simple in place as a foundation?

  • awesome

  • i felt like i was drowning throughout the whole video. i dont think i breathed once...

  • @24sevenbaby me too :O

  • @24sevenbaby totally...

  • SOunds like Kevin Spacey to me.

  • Wow, that's some way to see dying, hmm.

  • Ben Stein?

  • It happens cuz you're brain is trying to find a memory which could save you from drowning

  • lol what would life be with out jokes and sarcasim...

  • you wouldn't know what to think of first...

    great vid

  • @Gorbatchevisky Lol. You should learn how to write before you try and insult me.

  • A real gem!

  • how would someone know what you saw before you died, so if people didn't die then they didn't see something before they died, but before they did not die rather.

  • solution: learn how to swim.

  • that dont work all the time lol

  • @kosmovirus

    1. record a bunch of videos

    2. snapshot frame by frame.

    3. print them with lowest quality and trace manually on paper.

    4. scan them.

    5. sort with windows moviemaker or more advance movie software such as adobe after effects to make it accurate and extra features.

u can skip step 3-4 if u hav a touchscreen monitor.

idk the actual way but that's how i'd do it.

  • @VK444 Not quite true, even though you probably would be able to do it like that. Many animators can actually produce animations this impressive and realistic (in the sense of proportions, expressions etc.), are they given enough time. Although a film with the expressions of a real actor probably is a good idea :)

  • nice way to drown, great ani

  • awsome animation, this is what messages should feel like. applause for that.

but i have one single question, (if anyone can tell me) : how is it made?, what software do you use? ( please reply ... )

  • Type PRIZE before youtube and hit enter

  • Pretentious

  • @squidwombat say's the guy who do shitty Beatles cover , what a sandy vagina ...

  • these videos make me want to be an short film director/editor/creator

  • Your life flashing before your eyes is suspected to be the brain trying to find a previous memory or situation that could help. Saw it on QI

  • Narrator wasn't that great of a voice kept talking on a very plain level. ZzZzZzzzz....

  • well that was depressing

  • @teo cherici

  • Brrr goosebumpy! I love it!)

  • drowning is the best way to die. at least if you want to be brought back to life, coz we all have about 5 min in the other side of life to wait for rescue to come without some kind of brain damage. so yeah, drowning is better if the other option is a bullet in the head... amazing animation! felt like 'waking life'

  • That settles it.... i dont wanna die drowning D:
