If I had a cockroach as a pet, I would get emotionally attached to it. And most of the time, they won't even understand the true reason for that themselves. But, fortunately, some do.

yup, cause a roach doesn't really have a centralized brain like a mammal. Instead, it has major ganglion clusters all along its back. The major ganglion clusters are in its torax ie its body.

So beheading a roach is not much different from cutting off your arms. Hurts like hell but it won't actually kill (if you get patched up). A roach will live for about 1 month after loosing its head, death is caused by starvation as a roach still needs its head to eat.
