1) Yes Israel is a democracy. but it is only democratic to its Jew citizens. So enough because it is exposed.

Thanks for posting both POVs. The Jewish side of my family came to America from Odessa Just in Time around 1908. Those who stayed behind perished. I recently found distant cousins who immigrated to South Africa around the same time. And, still some relatives I've never met live in Israel. Given that Israel is only as far away from Odessa as Boston is from Washington DC, and given America and South Africa's remoteness and history, who are the real colonialists? Certainly not the Israelis.

Israel is a nuclear-armed, European colony, serving the interests of the WW2 Allied powers. It provides a European base in the oil rich Middle East. Israel sold arms, and raw materials for arms to another colonial power - the Apartheid government of South Africa when the people of the U.S. demanded their own country embargo the racist S.A. government. You can't perfume a pig.

Israel isn't a European colony, because there are ten times more Arabs than Jews in Europe, and half of Israel's population are Arab refugees who have no connection to Europe at all. This comparison is also unfair to the real victims of European colonization who have seen far more of their land usurped than the Arabs who today are demanding an Arab state of Palestine.

Incidentally, BOTH sides of my family are Jewish - originally from Poland. Those many who remained in Poland died in Hitler's camps. Unlike supporters of the Holocaust industry, I do not believe this gives me the right to usurp Palestinians from their homelands.

Thanks for posting. I feel open dialogue on this issue is extremely important. For the record, we disagree, you and I.

My view is that to term Israeli policy is an accurate and useful characterization, and not "insanity." I'm an anti-Zionist, and feel that the original socialist and inclusive political goals of, say, the Hashomer Hatzair, a group my father belonged to, before moving to Communism, have been violently distorted over the years at the expense of the Palestinians: Apartheid.
