finally the stanley cup in here where im at in so. cali i live 15 minutes from the honda center. the ducks could of had two championships. they were so close to winning it in that great run they had in 2003.
Trust me, the place was going nuts inside. The TV mics didn't pick up the sound as well as some other rinks. This arena is fairly new and has been designed for concerts, meetings, sport, etc... and is not as "echo-y" as some of the older buildings.
are u guys serious half the fans their have been a fan since 93, they have been waiting for this since 93,o ya by the way anaheim completly outplayed the wings. detroit fans always have an excuse, have u even been to cali? u would be surprised how much hockey is growing their and detroit is not hockey town, i agree if the wings would have beaten the ducks they probly would have beaten the senators, but dont post if u dont no what your talking about detroit fans
Ducks are a great team, but I excepted more cheering from the fans. I mean, did you see when Canucks won the 1st round? The stadium was making so much noise. But when the Ducks won I barely heard anything. Good job to the Ducks, but Anaheim is definetly not a hockey city. Good job anyways ^_^ Go Canucks!
Ducks got lucky in beatting the RED WINGS!!!! any western conference team could have beaten the senators and by the way aneheim is not HOCKEY TOWN DETROIT is!!!!!!
Lol. Ahaheim is far away from being Hockeytown. The hockey audience there is NOTHING compaired to an audience in the northern states. Cities like boston and toronto sell out games all the time, even when their team is doing poorly. I know for a fact that if anaheim's team where in last place that they wouldn't sell out games. There are a large majority of people there who could care less about hockey.
it was UNBELIEVABLE to be there. I'm still thinking about how loud the crowd was in the last 10 seconds. It was as electric an atmosphere as you could ever imagine. It was phenominal to be there.
Thanks for the compliment! It was hard to hold the camera steady, the building was shaking and the noise was So loud that it was like being slapped in the head with a sound wave. Unforgettable moment for me to be there. Best sporting event i've ever been to bar none.
@bubblebear83 It was unforgettable. I got a lot of amazing pictures, i stayed until everyone left the arena, players were still partying on the ice, i was there well over an hour after the game had ended. I was very lucky to have been able to attend an event like this.
@wheresthisshmoo Sorry, I accidentally deleted my 2 years old message, I was going to cancel my post, You are lucky you got to see them play and the Ducks celebrate at the end.
Five of the six Canadian teams are in the top 10 when it comes to attendance this season, with Montreal first or second since 2000/1 despite mediocre performance. Tampa used to have poor attendance until they won the cup, and now it's spiked, but once the team gets bad again, it should decline. Anaheim ranked 20th. Atlanta, Nashville, Phoenix & Florida are all in the bottom third. And what do they have in common?
First of all, people in california dont care about hockey, you goto any canadian teams hockey game, guranteed its sold out all year around or tickets are hard to come by, be cause of the fan base, second of all 40% of the NHLs revenue is from Canadian teams, and theres only 6 teams, so clearly thats saying something if the teams making double or triple or even 4 times as much as other teams in the league
You could be right. Just on ticket sales alone there is no way those franchises make up that much of the sports economy. Add in merchandise and I can see it but it is still a little hard to believe.
im not trying to be a dick but its true the canadian teams are a huge chunk of the NHL, my number was a little of its 33.3%, "Canadian team fans cough up an estimated $733 million (all figures U.S.) of the league's $2.2 billion revenue"
thestar.c om/article/180345
And to the guy talking about the CHL, we already have that its a junior league
Oh, we know you are not trying to be a dick. I guess you are right tho about that figure. Damn dude, I dont think the NHL would make it at all if the remaining canadian teams moved to US markets. It possibly could if the teams moved to cities in the north like possibly cleveland or cincinnati but wow that would destroy the NHL's bottom line.
Speaking of grade school, wasn't this team named the "Mighty Ducks" after a retarded kids movie??? What an embarassment this would have been had they not smartened up and changed the name.
Dude that is so awesome you got tickets to that! I wanted the Ducks to win. Even though Im a Ranger fan I wanted either the Ducks or Buffalo to win if we didnt make it. Congrats! Go Ducks Go!
I stopped watching the game when it became apparent that Ottawa was not going to win. The Stanley Cup has a long and storied history, it's an integral part of Canadian culture and history, and I don't really care for teams from sunny climes like California winning the Cup. Why the NHL puts teams in these questionable markets when there are Canadian cities that can sustain a team that desperately want one.
Okay, maybe my statement wasn't exactly fair, seeing that Tampa Bay, for instance, is largely supported by ex-pat Canadians. The Leafs are pretty much on home ice when they're in Tampa, aren't they. Thanks for illustrating just how pathetic the league has become these last few years. Hopefully the Predators will be moved to Canada, the first of many.
I don't know many canadians who live in Tampa, and if they did, it's only because they're close to 100 years old, and wouldn't make it to a game at the St. Pete Times Forum without breaking a hip.
The Tampa fanbase is strong, sorry you're hundreds of miles away, so that you aren't aware of that.
Sorry, but when I watch the Leafs play in Tampa Bay, the home crowd is decidedly pro-Leafs. There are a lot of ex-pat Canadians living in Florida, and many more vacation there. Since tickets are hard to come by in Canada, many Canadians take the opportunity to catch a game while in Florida. Tampa's attendance levels would be near the bottom of the list were this not the case.
dude, there are tons of canadian players on the ducks, as well as carolina and tampa bay so what's the problem?
i would of liked to have seen a canadian team win too but there are tons of canadians playing in these "questionable markets" so i don't see what the big deal is.
You're right about the players, but the idea is for the most loyal of hockey fans is that NHL doesn't need to be south of New Jersey, or west of Minnesota.
It's like they think that people who live in those markets don't deserve a team more than another city, just because they can't go outside in the winter, find a frozen pond, and get a scrimmage going.
The problem is that the teams aren't based in Canada, where they should be. I really don't care how many Canadians are on American teams, this is about Canadian cities having NHL franchises. There are Canadian cities that easily can support a franchise, but the league wants to try an expand the American fan base by putting teams in questionable markets. And it's really not working all that well, in my opinion.
And why should they be based in Canada? You already lost Quebec and Winnepeg, two major cities I might add, due to a lack of finances. What other large canadian city who so "desperately" wants a franchise could support one? Stop being a sore loser. Hockey is no longer a Canadian game. Its a world wide game with millions of fans in the U.S. Oh, and the last time I checked, you're national sport was lacrosse right?
Sorry, but both the Winnipeg and Quebec franchises were not "lost" rather victims of the league's obsession with opening new markets in the USA in places where hockey means little or nothing. (Didn't the Columbus franchise have to produce a video that explained the basic rules of hockey for potential ticket buyers?) Southern Ontario alone could sustain two or three more teams, Quebec, the Maritimes, Saskatchewan, B.C. at least one more ea.
great video USA !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uh dude I think your figures are wrong. How can 6 teams out of, what 30, make up 40% of a leagues income? I may be wrong but I doubt it.
furgee 4 years ago
It might have to do with the sale of merchandise. The figure does seem a little unrealistic and I'd like to see a source if possible.

even the good Canadians wanted to go to California. Look at Pronger.
Quit being so jaleous and honor the tradition behind the cup.

KenGS333 4 years ago
Well, it seems the teams in "questionable markets", as you put it, sure are kicking everyone's ass in recent years.
2004- Tampa Bay
2006- Carolina
2007- Anaheim
And about the "sunny climate"...
All teams play indoors, on ice. Really, no advantage to the more northern teams there.
