Champion race ported GN1 aluminum heads, efficient torque converter, shifting at 6200+ and really good track conditions seemed to do the trick. We also race at sea level (Mission Raceway)
Nice Grand National Bro, my uncle has one that run's 9's and he has a roll cage in his car but I'm not really sure what engine you have but he replaced his 3.8 turbo with a 400 Big Block! I sure miss the Turbo Charged engine :(
@CameronSoFresh Cool story Hansel. You don't know what you are talking about though. A 400 is a small block, not a big block, and you have to have a roll cage at most tracks for the time this guy was running. Ours is 11.49 and quicker and you have to have one or they kick you off.
@sprayta Honestly, it's my uncle's car and he told me that it was a 400 Big Bock in the GN, I don't know if it was a Ford motor or Chevy but if it were a Chevy then it would be a smal block but Ford has a 400 big block motor I've heard, and to tell me I have to have a roll cage on the track is pretty simple because I said my Uncle has one so that made no since to mention, although I am young doesn't mean you have to treat as if I'm dumb, have a great day mate.
Awesome run, thats what I want mine to run after a te60 fmic and 2800 stall with all supporting mods @ 25#. Timing can be modified from the comfort of ur drivers seat =], thanks to the turbotweak chip and scanmaster.
Converter was a local 9x11 lockup-although I did not lock it in 3rd when racing. Alky kit is a dual nozzle from Alkycontrol and turns on at the factory 4# preset. This was the street strip tune, never messed with the boost once it was set, alky was always on regardless of boost, saves headgaskets! Injectors were 57# siemens, ls1 maf with Gen 2 translater/using wideband tracking.
Your combo should run 10s all day, the fuel pump and cam are perfectly fine for mid-low 10s with the correct injectors. You may run out of alky with a single nozzle setup. My new combo is a stroker 250ci with a GTK-72BB turbo and a FAST XFI. Should run high 9s on pumpgas...still have A/C and no cage.
I'm using the TA-49, thanks for your advice. I just ordered a bunch of scan equiptment, fuel pressure, and knock gauge. Then I'm going to order the converter.
This was just a test and tune day, not really racing heads up. Only the second pass ever with the car and was just playing around to see what it would do driving it off the highway and onto the strip...it ran 10's with very little boost. This car has a 10.2-4 with a good hook and 25#.
What kind of turbo/heads is it running? My bro had a custom head (scorpion?) set made and a duttweiler turbo on his (when he had it). Never saw the street, but it would have been awesome!

Awesome car.. Could you send me your build information at the time of this video. I want a reliable 10's car.
-I was wondering about what converter you was running, chip and injector size.
-Also, single or dual nozzle alky and what time did you tell it to kick in?
-Finally was this your street tune? I figured 20# is a little aggressive w/o the akly.
Thanks,
Gabe

im going for 10's in mine, pump gas/alky/FAST/GN1 heads/t66dbb. my limitation will be my flat tap cam 218, and my single 340 pump.
VERY COOL CAR MAN!!!

What stall speed are you running, is it 3800? I'm trying to find out the best possible stall speed for street/strip on my GN. Thanks.
VinnyGN 4 years ago
I am using a 3200-3400 stall, 3800 may be a bit much on a street car but necesarry if you are using 70mm or larger turbo.

when you say pump gas are you running E85? I hear turbo cars love the cooler intake charge associated with E85

how did the other car get a 4 second jump on the GN??
Defender78 4 years ago
Waiting for turbo to spool. Not an issue once the car is rolling cause the RPM's are up. Might be running heads that dont flo very well.
