  • I loved Saad. After Ali retired he became my favourite boxer. Shame the Spinks fight never came off, and by the time Braxton/Qawi came around he'd been involved in too many wars, which age a fighter. Just as everybody says, he had it all EXCEPT great defense, but that's probably what made him so exciting. Conteh said he had the torso of a heavyweight and hit like one. Great stamina, the ability to punch as hard in the last round as in the first, and most of all immense heart.

  • the Johnson fight was great, i was also a big Johnson fan, Saad was one of the fighters that inspired me to box, but more than that he had a reckless never say die attitude, in the ring, that you could apply to any aspect of your life.

  • It was a fixed bout, and Saad was ancient anyway.

  • @LMW87MMA A boxer in his prime has yet to try his hand in MMA. Those guys would have no idea how to get close to him without getting cracked. And besides, boxers with 4 oz. gloves? Forget it.

  • @LMW87MMA And? Tim Sylvia got KTFO in 9 seconds by a boxer in an MMA match.. Boxing > MMA..

  • the heart of an elephant

    superb vid

  • One of the most underrated, underacknowledged, underappreciated and skillful boxers of all time.

It's just too bad that he gets overshadowed by the careers of more successful ones. But his legacy is unfuckwithable. Saad in his prime would THRASH any boxer today.

  • TheGreatA you should do more tribute videos they are put together really well

  • I will after my computer gets fixed.

  • anybody know the names of the second & third songs? I know the first is 'world is yours' by nas...thanks in advance

  • Jedi Mind Tricks - Kublai Khan (instrumental)

DMX - Get it on the floor (instrumental)

  • @TheGreatA thanks again!

  • Saad's fights were some of the first fights I ever saw as a kid, and one of the reasons I took it up.I remember watching him fight Murray Sutherland and Murray cracked him with a hard uppercut that split his lip wide open, no sweat . Matthew shook it off and made him pay. He was the black Rocky

  • so the nuns pick him up as a kid and raise him and then he goes and becomes a muslim. That's real slick, man.

  • ♥

  • Great hilight of a boxer that should not be forgotten, he was a warrior in a loaded light heavy weight division from the late 70's through the early 80's. Him and Arturo Gatti are cut from the same cloth. Imagine a fight with Saad and Glen Johnson. That would be one for the ages.

  • His whole life should be a movie. abandoned by his family as a small child, named " Franklin " because of the Franklin Parkway where nuns found him. He had an incredible chin and fighting heart, and a big knockout punch, a fighter doesn't need much else. He was one of the most exciting fighters of his decade, and beat a bunch of contenders and champs. He would do the same in any era , I think, , he ended his career getting beat up by bums , very sad end for such a warrior.

  • Great upload and nice comments, boxerrick42. Saad Muhammad was a warrior, a true warrior.

  • he;s very strong! good power and knowledgeable....

  • Why does he like getting punched so much?

I just found out about this guy and didn't know who was who in most fights cuz he's getting his ass kicked mostly!

TONS of heart though, and wins in the end!

  • No quit action fighter with good skils, great power and a huge heart. Mediocre defense only added to the recipe for excitement. Earned everything he got in boxing. Could have given Michael Spinks a great fight in '81, maybe won.

  • Mr Excitment!!!!!!

  • This is one of the best boxing videos on Youtbube. the man was unbelievable.

  • I love Matthew Saad, Eddie Mustafa and Dwight Muhammad! They are the three great warrior-fighters. Michael Spinks was maybe the most technically skilled light heavyweight, but they were the greatest warriors no doubt.

  • i reckon even if you had plaster in your gloves you wouldnt of got him out of the ring in hes prime. this guy soaks up punishment like its nothing and comes back fresh as a daisy. i always wondered why saad was so feared in the 70/80s because there was no fights of him up and i didnt know much about the light-heavies at the time. a classic warrior and always exciting to watch :)

  • Thanks for posting! Saad was a great champion! If he was fighting today Calzaghe, Hopkins, Adamek, Jones would all have been in a world of trouble!

  • Most exciting fighter in boxing history.

innit27.... If a true bad-ass mofo like him seems gay to you, just how unbelievably queer do you come across in life? He beats men's asses, while you tongue them.

  • Matthew Saad Muhammad reminds me a lot of Evander Holyfield.

  • How do you think Hopkins would have did agaist Saad Muhammad?

  • That's a tough decision. I could see it going either way. I don't see Saad Muhammad stopping Hopkins. Hopkins is too smart for that. I think it would be a close decision. Saad Muhammad wouldn't be able to get much done, but B-Hop would be doing just barely enough to win rounds. To me, it all depends on Hopkins. If we see the Hopkins who fought Pavlik, Hopkins wins, hands down. If we see the Hopkins who fought Calzaghe, than Saad Muhammad would probably win a close, boring decision

  • Hopkins has always dictated his fights. I dont think Saad would show Behop that much respect. I see Saad making Behop fight his fight or getting stopped. LOL. Thats just the way I see it so I would go with Saad.

  • Much agreed.

  • great video of matthew

  • Good Video. 5 Stars.

  • One of my faves.
