Well - Alice Ripley actually responded to this! Alice, I paid 3 times to see N2N because of the clips & I got 3 other people to join me last time in DC. and I just bought your CD, and I bought Ripley the CD, but I was not there in the late 90s when you sang Meadowlark, and it cannot be recaptured. So these posts get people interested in the shows, and it is the ONLY way we get to see past performances. Hey, rodanvideo - keep it posted.
@RIPLEYTHEBAND I know this is illegal, but i am thankful for it, because without it i would never be able to see how wonderful you were in this! love from a poor british broadway fan ;)
HAHA WELL I TRIED AS USUAL TO BE AS DIRECT AS POSSIBLE. EXCUSE MY BRUSQUE MANNER, BUT YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS SUPPOSED TO ASK FOR MY PERMISSION ("MY" WOULD HAVE BEEN IN CAPS FOR EMPHASIS). ALSO, WHY ARE YOU SITTING IN A THEATRE FILMING A SHOW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO IT? IT IS A SERIOUS SIGN OF DISRESPECT. HOW MANY OTHER ILLEGAL VIDS DO YOU POSSESS?
PUT DOWN THE CAMERA AND WATCH THE PERFORMANCE WITH YOUR OWN EYES, HEART AND MIND. JUST DO THE RIGHT THING.
@RIPLEYTHEBAND Okay, okay, okay.. ;-}}} So, does this video stay or does it go? It's YOUR call. Don't assume that it was ME holding the camera, 'cause it wasn't. I was given this video as part of research material for a local production years ago. Bootleg B'way [and regional] videos run rampant around the internet, as you know. Would you like a copy? This production is [by leaps and bound] far better than the latest B'way revival. NICE GOIN'! Who made the decision to cut "Marry Me a Little"?
@megan132 This clip is from the 2002 Kennedy Center production [with John Barrowman as Bobby], which followed the original book [minus Tick Tock], not the updated [old] revival book. Marry Me a Little was NOT included. Where did you get your info.. so that I can research it further?
And, I've viewed a bootleg video. Nope - no Marry Me at the end of act one.. or anywhere else.
@RIPLEYTHEBAND First - STOP YELLING!. Second - BOYCOTT?? Third - Instead of broadcasting your venom, you could simple send me a message, explaining who you are & asking me to remove the video. Now, isn't that how a rational person would handle the issue?
So, send me a quick note, tell me your credentials, and if you are "connected" with this DC production, I'll remove it. Then again, what's the harm in entertaining a few youtube viewers, right?
@5934931 Well, I don't know THAT. If she'd told me that she's Alice, then I'd immediately follow her wishes, of course. When someone writes a cryptic comment IN CAPS, I have NO idea who it is. It didn't occur to me that someone with her reputation would write BOYCOTT THIS VIDEO. There are so many loons on youtube, I cannot possibly determine who is who. Obviously, I did not intend to insult a super-actress. So - "boycotting" or "removing" are her options. Let her tell me which.
@rodanvideo Really? Her youtube account is RIPLEYtheband. She said "I" did not give permission, so she must have something to do with it. Credentials? She is Alice Ripley. "Connected"? She was in it.
@Soon2beonbroadway And MY account is RODANvideo, but that doesn't mean that I was the monster who destroyed Tokyo. Out of courtesy, I'll remove the clip if "she" just contacts me, instead of writing BOYCOTT, which draws even MORE attention to the clip.. and her channel, which maybe is what she wants!
Also, she is NOT the one who deems "permission." All aspects of "her" performance are owned by the production team.. & THEY either grant or deny "permission".. & legally must do so within 2 years.
@Soon2beonbroadway {continued} But, I'm not going to start a war. The public comment made was not appropriate. It should have been sent as a private message to me. And - I honestly did not "realize" that it was Alice herself. Who would think that an articulate, respected actress would bitch about a clip crying BOYCOTT? How the hell do ya BOYCOTT a clip. Really - think about it!! Uhhh - ya have to view it first, to decide if it should be BOYCOTTED.
I frickin' LOVE LOVE LOVE Alice Ripley sooo much! She is soo awesome in this video! and may I add that I am loving that hairstyle and color on her. She looks gorgeous here.
Absolutely perfect comedic timing this woman has. I've seen N2N quite a few times and every liine that can be funny she makes funny. Thanks for this clip, my respect for AR grows more every time I see her work :)
With the exception of Heather Laws (revival) and Beth Howland (OBC), I've never heard someone articulate the lyrics so crisply while maintaining the fast speed of the song. And I think she has the best breath control. And... it's fucking hilarious. Love Alice!!!
I'd say this is the best version of GETTING MARRIED TODAY I've seen just about anywhere. And probably the best actress who ever sang it! I've been looking all over for that, but now I think I've found her! ALICE RIPLEY, probably the best Amy I think I will ever hear, and now a Tony winner as well!
I must say, though I didn't like the opening number, this one was amazing! One of the best! Alice was so well spoken with the song, I could understand everything! Something hard to do.
To me, Company is about the morals, ethics, & attitudes of the 1970s, so I like the "dated look" of other [older] productions. Company is one of those shows that doesn't need "improving." The OBC had a warm-'n-fuzzy feel that's been lost in EVERY revival since!
Alice Ripley is brilliant!

Cause Emily Skinner is a much better alto than soprano
