It's really sad how this iconic, quintessential and beautiful sounding british amp is now having it long and proud reputation wrecked by korg who now own vox. These amps all ways were made in england and were top notch quality and now they are shit all made in China & Vietnam! They still stick union jacks all over the brandinding... PISS TAKERS!
I hear things made in China are cheaply designed and crafted...
What part of vox ac3's (all of them are made there or just the new ones?) are made there?
I'm thinking the cab is made there, the new ones slap the cheaper chinese greenbacks or alnico blue, add tubes (not made there, i think) and other stuff i guess...still sort of new to amp design
@DudeXMyster It depends on what kind of product you're talking about. Hornby (the model train company from the UK) gets its stuff made in China and the quality if anything has gone up to an incredibly high standard. Maybe it's the same for Vox. On the other hand, it could be tat. I doubt it would be tat considering it's a £700 amp. I imagine they are built by the more skilled part of the Chinese workforce.
@boliboy2299 They're most certainly NOT too expensive. I just tried a brand new one out earlier this week. $600 brand new. You can't get a bottom of the line Marshall for that.
@shaindaman13 $600 its 6 minimum monthly salary here in Bolivia. And If I want to buy it from ebay. The shipping will cost around $400 and including taxes it will cost like $1300. I'm screwed with that. I can afford $600 but not $1300
@boliboy2299 I see your dilemma. Shipping is expensive. Too bad there's no where near by for you to get it. Do you guys not have music stores there or do they just not sell Vox in Bolivia?
@shaindaman13 they can bring one but probably at higher price, perhaps $1500. I wanna make a beatle tribute band and I think we would just buy Marshall ones
@Wolf15r Don't judge over the Internet, you probably assume I'm an idiot, because of the way I phrased my OPINION, and if you read my statement correctly, i didn't say I hated blues music...
does this amp take analog pedals well? i have a history with pedals and amp not working properly together, and i would be dissapointed if the almighty ac30 wouldnt work decently with a fuzzbox and some delay
@MrNirvanerd What else would they play? Its the best all round genre for demo’s because so many genres are just rip off’s. Rock is the most common one.

I'm gonna get this amplifier...3 amplifiers...to reproduce Brian May's fabulous'Sound-On-Sound'play on"Brighton Rock"(Live version).Some Day One Day lol.
@KJGordon05 i have no clue...but i've noticed that in every vox video...they say its chimey...i guess because the cleans sound so good. They are good amps nontheless
@supersungjae If your a starter I would say definitely but if you want something professional probably not. At least it depends on what style of music you play.
Does Vox still make the regular AC30TB? I own an AC30TB and i wouldn't want to change it. I like it just the way it is. Why fart around with perfection.
I really think that these amps are THE best, for the classic rock sound I am seeking. I had a nice Kustom amp, in the late 1970s, but that was an era of extreme unpopularity toward tube amps, and few choices, so I had no choice. The Kustom was good, but these Vox shown here are the best for true sounds especially for Gretsch, Ricky, etc.
@Guitar1hero23 Some will say no, but yeah for sure, especially the Led Zeppelin I & II sounds, drive it a bit and use a telecaster (perhaps a little fuzz from a Tonebender Mk 2 type fuzz too) and you're there.
hello im getting a new amp either a jcm 800 900 2000 or vox ac 30 i really wanna get a nice brown sound like van halen and tight overdrive like guns n roses , kiss and ozzy ousbourne but i will also need to clean up the sound to get a jimi hendrix or pink floyd tone which amp should i get and those the jcm 800 take pedals well because it has no fx loop thanks give me opinions .
You're asking a lot of one single amp. The vox ac30 should come close though, especialy if you get a booster/od pedal for those hardrock tones. The cleans of the Marshall jcm's are just horrible. A 50watt 'old school' Marshall might work too I guess (1987x, 2160x, jtm45,...). You'd also need a pedal for Slash type of tones though...
@12345678ix Izzy from GNR played(s) Vox amps ..Marshall's are usually used by Ozzy's guitarists, but the newest has Blackstar, which you could most likely get at least some of the tones from all the guitarists. Honestly, I didn't care for their tone, but that's my opinion - plus you could always get Zakk Wyldes O.D pedal anyway. Pink Floyd tone, you could probably easily get with a Vox & as far as Van Halen, you could do fine here - just get some pedals and eddies sig pedals. Done deal!
Im guessing that the ac30 and the ac15 are both identical in tone just that the ac30 is louder because of the second speaker and some diffrent features that could give you a diffrent tone. So that why i assume they didnt demo the ac15.
I think if you used the fx loop for your me-70 then you would bypass the preamp, so effectively you would keep the tone. Depends on how much fx you use, but if you just looking for a little colour then you'll have nothing to worry about.
Unless anyone can add to that or correct me? Open to advice.
Would be interested to see a reply to this, as I'm in the same situation, looking to buy a Vox amp or similar, and am wondering about effects on tone by running an me-70 in the signal chain...
@TolikRyumin Yea mine hurts my ears more than any stack ive owned? vox realy pushes hard and sounds great,Ill never own anything else again nomore lugging halfstacks around.
can some one help me w/ this question? okay, is it true that the knobs/the words on the amp are backwards so you have to go in back of the amp and adjust your volume and w/e else you need to adjust? hope this made any sense, thanks.
Rockin' amps, man. Fantastic tone, great high gain, great tremelo. Brilliance tone is one-of-a-kind. Rubish reverb, though. Change that reverb tank if you get one.
I've heard the AC30 Custom Classics have some reliability issues, but man do they sound great. You might try to get one of the 90's or 2000-2002 models when they were still made in England.
it does, it's got great clean sound and the boost is ok but it's not a metal or hardrock tone it's more like a overdrive. Playing chords and riffs it will sound awesome but for solo's I'd recommend effects unless you're playing blues then it's great. Overall a awesome amp which will get VERY loud.
Why can't the channels be footswitchable?! I wouldn't hesitate a second to buy this amp if I could switch between the channels using my foot... but now I don't consider buying it. So stupid!
I've played an ac15 today, the clean were what I was looking for, but the overdrives, even just a small clip, were muddy as hell. This one seems to sound fine.
I was looking back into my schematics on the AC15's and AC30's. My schematics are on the original's. They are all self biased. When you replace them be sure that the output tubes are matched tubes and for best performance buy the preamp tubes tested for low noise and microphonics. Phase inverter tube for balance. tubedepot.çöm and groovetubes.çöm provide those services and are good about answering any questions.
All amps should be re-biased / bias checked every time tubes are changed/ replaced. If amp is under frequent heavy use i would sugest replacing power tubes at least once a year (preamp tubes should last about 5 years) otherwise you should try and change your power tubes every year if you can. You should be able to notice sagging and depreciating sound quality when tubes are dying. hope that helps.
I agree with getting the amplifier bias'd with each retube. But I disagree with the changing the power amp tubes every year and the preamp tubes evey 5. Most tubes have a life span in the order of ~50,000 hours where they will remain within nominal operating specs. My SVT (which is a great example of a high voltage amp, really pushes those power tubes), had it's original power tubes from '89 til '05. And it was a hussy (rent out amp). Was def. used frequently!
I've also got a TE Speedtwin head, which had the original tubes for ~10 years. (a short within the amp killed those in the end, sadly wasnt just a tube failure).
I don't know anyone who follows the change the tubes each year approach. As long as you handle your amp with care, and don't cause mechanical failure, you're tubes will be fine for well over a decade!
Well i gig alot (2-3 times a week) and im a complete tone freak!! :P and i also have my tubes running quite hot. I agree that i was over exagerating with changing once a year, for me i'd change them every 2-3 years. I build my own amps aswell and i feel that my amp is abit safer with a fresh set of tubes. But after all, gear setup is all personal opinion what works for one might not work for all.
Besides being a matter of taste it depends on how you use the amps.
The Marshall will probably sound a little fuller at lower volumes and the Vox a little chimier.
However when you crank the AC30 it gets fat and full sounding when you dig into chords yet cleans up and sounds more jangly and chimey when you pick lightly. That's what's cool about the AC30 design, the way the notes morph with heavy attack and how they sound jangly when played softly.
The Marshall will sound more punchy, the note attack will ring louder when you lay into it.
The Marshall will enhance the note's *volume* the more you lay into it whereas the AC30 will go the other way and compress causing a smoothing effect that sounds less strident but deeper and more complex. The tone/timbre itself morphs and you will get more sustain with the AC30.
However for an AC30 to do that you need to turn it up really loud.
Silly demo coordinator, they failed to play the AC30's trump card...you have to dime the master and drive some alnico speakers.
That setting kicks ass no matter if you set the pre gain at half or up 8.The tone will be fatter than you hear in the demo, with a more spongy feel to it and with more sustain and compression.
@babyslapmafro its so strange how they hit their loudest volumes at like 5 or 6 but at ten they just fill and fill, dont get louder but they are fucking power houses
@spentonmediocrity Your right i just sold my blues jr great amp very good.Ijust needed money to pay for xmas stuff plus im goin to get an ac15 after xmas then sell it for the 30 when i have more doe.the jr is a littlle boxy sounding my only complaint and not near as great looking as vox
spent is totally right, you put one of these on 5 and its loud... really loud. And half stacks and the like are overrated, you will most probably never need a huge 100 watt amp.
OMG i have found my new love.... i've heard hype about AC30's (originals and reissues) but now i've actually heard it...... WOW!!!! why must i have to be so skint with uni :(:( I can only wish
Made in ? only an english Vox is a VOX. This amplifiers are a symbol of England. When I see the horrible new editions I want to cry, or laugh. I prefer a dirty and broken JMI VOX, that´s a legend !!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
If you said that, is because you don´t have any feeling or pasion about the music and the groups of that era, Beatles and all the mersey side bands who almost create the Vox ampifiers. An AC-30 is just a piece of wood with two speakers and wires for you, you don´t understand NOTHING. These "new Vox" doesn´t have any history, just an ordinary piece of plastic
Still learning to dial the right tone because I got a used one without the foot switch but this amp is the real deal great clean channel and very nice sustain.
Thumbs Up if Phil X got you here!

PBANDSNOW 7 months ago
@PBANDSNOW the one this guy is playing is a combo.
It has both the head and cab in one.
The head is where the power and tubes are, also where you control the sound.
The cab is just a speaker
A stack is when the head is on the top and the cab is on the bottom.

Why can't the channels be footswitchable?! I wouldn't hesitate a second to buy this amp if I could switch between the channels using my foot... but now I don't consider buying it. So stupid!

the question is does this amp have the blue speakers
TheTocaor 2 years ago
I've played an ac15 today, the clean were what I was looking for, but the overdrives, even just a small clip, were muddy as hell. This one seems to sound fine.

does this amp have to be biased when replacing tubes?
and how do you know when your tubes are due for change? I have never had the oppritunity to really work with a tube amplifier

17blue 2 years ago
I agree with getting the amplifier bias'd with each retube. But I disagree with the changing the power amp tubes every year and the preamp tubes evey 5. Most tubes have a life span in the order of ~50,000 hours where they will remain within nominal operating specs. My SVT (which is a great example of a high voltage amp, really pushes those power tubes), had it's original power tubes from '89 til '05. And it was a hussy (rent out amp). Was def. used frequently!
WillSpengler 2 years ago
I've also got a TE Speedtwin head, which had the original tubes for ~10 years. (a short within the amp killed those in the end, sadly wasnt just a tube failure).
I don't know anyone who follows the change the tubes each year approach. As long as you handle your amp with care, and don't cause mechanical failure, you're tubes will be fine for well over a decade!
WillSpengler 2 years ago
Well i gig alot (2-3 times a week) and im a complete tone freak!! :P and i also have my tubes running quite hot. I agree that i was over exagerating with changing once a year, for me i'd change them every 2-3 years. I build my own amps aswell and i feel that my amp is abit safer with a fresh set of tubes. But after all, gear setup is all personal opinion what works for one might not work for all.

what do use reckon is better a vox ac30cc2 or a marshall tsl602
foootos 2 years ago
Besides being a matter of taste it depends on how you use the amps.
The Marshall will probably sound a little fuller at lower volumes and the Vox a little chimier.
However when you crank the AC30 it gets fat and full sounding when you dig into chords yet cleans up and sounds more jangly and chimey when you pick lightly. That's what's cool about the AC30 design, the way the notes morph with heavy attack and how they sound jangly when played softly.
spentonmediocrity 2 years ago
The Marshall will sound more punchy, the note attack will ring louder when you lay into it.
The Marshall will enhance the note's *volume* the more you lay into it whereas the AC30 will go the other way and compress causing a smoothing effect that sounds less strident but deeper and more complex. The tone/timbre itself morphs and you will get more sustain with the AC30.
However for an AC30 to do that you need to turn it up really loud.

@foootos depends what style of music your playing and stuff

Hitamaru 2 years ago
Silly demo coordinator, they failed to play the AC30's trump card...you have to dime the master and drive some alnico speakers.
That setting kicks ass no matter if you set the pre gain at half or up 8.The tone will be fatter than you hear in the demo, with a more spongy feel to it and with more sustain and compression.

Would a two speaker AC30 be louder than my Fender frontman 210?
derekswan144 2 years ago
sure!
jujucaster64 2 years ago
Don't know about that fender but ...
A 2x12 AC30 can keep up with ANY drummer.
It will drown many drummers out if you dime it.
spentonmediocrity 2 years ago
it will drown ALL drummers out if you dime it....this amp is so fucking loud....so so loud

eatthemoon13 2 years ago
spent is totally right, you put one of these on 5 and its loud... really loud. And half stacks and the like are overrated, you will most probably never need a huge 100 watt amp.

Made in ? only an english Vox is a VOX. This amplifiers are a symbol of England. When I see the horrible new editions I want to cry, or laugh. I prefer a dirty and broken JMI VOX, that´s a legend !!!
ADPFUCKER 2 years ago
Those amps are actually a symbol of Vox Amplification. I think the symbol of England is a white rectangle with a red cross on it.
