Gotta be honest -- the Andrew Sisters are, well, not very pretty. I think the McGuire Sisters are not only gorgeous, but sing WAY better. I realize we are talking about different eras, but that is what I think.
I'm 59 now. When I was growing up, I used to watch all these great Abbott and Costello movies every Sunday morning. I loved all of them. It takes you back to the days when everyone was an American patriot. My dad used to tell me stories about when he was in the Navy serving in the Pacific. I weep for the kids of today. They just don't understand.
PCIMMINO....i believe its because we see that the generation behind us just dont seem to care! when my children were little, the schools stopped saying the pledge of allegiance, and stopped teaching the songs of our country! plus the fact that there arent any "war" movies showing on T.V. like when we were growing up. so yeah, our children arent patriotic because no one teaches them! GOD BLESS AMERICA! GOD BLESS ALL OUR MILITARY!
im 54 now, but back when i first saw these movies and heard the ANDREW SISTERS i fell in love with it all! the dancing...the war effort, the military men (drool), the clothes, hair, etc. so im with you PATTYGOODY.
these movies helped turn me into a very patriotic AMERICAN. GOD BLESS AMERICAN! GOD BLESS ALL THE MILITARY THEN AND NOW.
FREEDOM IS NOT FREE! THANK YOU TO ALL OUR MILITARY!
tocklu: today sexy is all some of the celebs have in the era when thisclip was filmed the preformers were required to have something missing from holly wood today namely TALENT..as cool as T&A might be it ain't a everything
If its the girl I think you mean her name was Jane Frazee, she was also in Helzapoppin and was a real hottie...possibly one of the most naturally beautiful actresses I have ever seen, however her career never really took off, and we only have one or two of these wartime gems to remeber her by. Hope this helps.
I think you mean the girl who is in the foreground of the dancers. I found her to be dazzling. A google image search with the name Jane Frazee yields a couple of photos, but I was not able to make a positive identification from this.
Love this era! If I could go back in time, it would be right here! Great clothes, hairstyles, jewelry, love the dancing and the clubs...great little clip!
Same here sister! I'd love to live in this era! Love the 1930's to 1940's...
I hope (which I know will never happen) this song or any song from the 1940's will be played at my prom! I wish that one week (from the school year) would be dedicated to the generations from each era from the 1920's to the 1980's. Boy wouldn't it be fun!
tocklu, go to hell; they were acting the part of soldiers, soldiers are not supposed to be sexy , of course bot being one you would'nt know about that
the movie "Buck Privates" had two more songs, one was a marching song, 'You're a lucky fellow Mr smith' which went over well, the other was a beautiful Ballad
'I'll be with you in apple blossom time' but the filming of the latter was atrocious, some blame could go to the shortage created by WW2, the other was cheap poor workmanship, and the song became an immediate hit
I really wish we had clubs/bars like this, today...like many others listed on here, I envy the older generation...you really had a good thing going...even though times were rough, depression and all, you had classic entertainment...despite all the 'chick food' and 'archie bunker' comments...it was this era, that should see a revival...enough with the hippies and long hair and bong hits...bring back class...I wish other 23 year olds like me, could see this kind of thing...thanks for posting!!!!
I love the tight harmonies in the Andrews Sisters' singing. Listen to those harmonies -- incredible! That music sounds simple at first, but it ain't. Like many of the best things in life, it's simple, and yet complex, all at once.
Great music and dancing from Americas greatest generation. At the risk of sounding Archie Bunker, those were the days, girls were girls and men were men. Society has deballed the men in this country. Take a look around you folks, do you ever see a guy from Gen X without a backpack(purse) and a bottle of spring water, munching on chick food? Do You Like What You See Now?
This may surprise you, But the Andrews sisters never had a choreographer, all their on stage dances were performed to a military beat, hence the military steps
I am 28 years old and love the andrews sisters!! This is what I call dancing! this is music that you can feel in your blood!!! unlike the garbage that is out today!!. I oh, so envy the older generation!!!

You mean the days when women... oh, sorry, "girls", 'knew their place'? Yeah, that must've really made the men back then feel manly.
What the hell is 'chick food'?
