  • thanks for the upload.

  • i wish i knew what she was saying its so beautiful ;}

  • I believe its the description of a beautiful evening. When colors merge in the sky, it pleases the eye. Yes, the melody is very haunting and very beautiful. Plus Kishori Amonkar is among the finest vocalists that India has produced.

  • This is Raag Bhimpalasi. Nishad and Gandhar are sung in the komal, which is flatter than the shud( "regular" whole note)

This is sung in the afternoon.

She sings about the colors blending in the evening, probably in the sky . . .and the eyes are given "sringar", which is the word describing decoration of oneself with jewelry

  • pwns the hell out of rap music any day. My roomate keeps asking me to stop playing this.....but i wont. >:D

  • Beautiful, out-of-the-world.

  • Beautiful ...............

  • I wholeheartedly agree with all the accolades here conferred on the magical Kishori Amonkar. The accompanists also deserve applause.

  • Comment removed

  • I can understand your pain, but you should've censored all the bad words you've posted in this comment. Also, I love it when I get to hear these rare marathi words like "arasik lekacha" lol

  • Simply amazing !!! lucky to experience her singing

  • can someone help me here with the lyrics plz?

  • Subhan Allah. Long live Kishori mata.

  • I had heard of kishori amonkar but had never seen/heard her performing... jus came across this video while listening to Girija Devi's songs....

and mus say it definitely made more sense than girija devi's incoherent humming... with all due respects to her..but for someone who hasnt learnt classical singing... i atleast shud be able to make out what the singer is singing..

    this one was really good!!

  • Ganasaraswati Kishori Amonkar, is what she really is....remember guys she is considered as a living form of Devi Saraswati....and therefore takes the right to carry that attitude....no one can match her singing....and therefore she has a complete authority....to show that MAAZ...for the one who dont like her singing..i must say...dogs keep on barking at the elephant..but the elephant is least bothered....she will still continue to be GANASARASWATI KISHORI AMONKAR!!!

  • yes, i agree with you about her attitude. she single handedly did more good and simultaneously more bad for the classical music community than anyone else. but sometimes one has to give up the hate. what can you do? just remember the voice and enjoy the song man.

  • thats correct dear,

    singers are meant for singing

we should not pay much of attention to their attitudes...

    you are right!

    i was wrong

    thanks for the enlightenment

    YOgi

  • Hey! if you don't like her singing don't listen. Don't go to her concert, and don't spend your money on her cassettes & DVD's but don't come doling this crap.

  • Great hit!

  • I hope someone posts her rendition of 'basanti kedar' which is the halmark of her 'Gharana'

  • I have been listening to her tribute to her Mother Mogubai and it is called 'Sampradaya' Loosely meaning heritage and the performance is divine! She is probably the most accomplished female vocalist probably second only to Kesari Bai and her own mother! Her trusted accompanist on tabla is Balakrishna Iyer !One of her disciples Shri Raghunath Panshikar is also singing well and has had a solo CD release to his credit! She has flown the flag of Atarouli Jaipur tradition (read gharana)aloft!

  • Amazing ...She is the Most talented --The BEST in Hindustani Classical vocal today. She is almost 70 years old at this performance ... Recently listened to her 'Bibhas' Simply AMAZING -Beautiful !!! I salute to her. Thanks for uploading.

  • Hi, could you please tell me where I can hear the Bibhas??is it on u tube?

  • not on youtube ... I found it on rhapsody dot c o m. In my opinion, Kishori is not second to Kesarbai --if you read Kishori's biography (Ganasaraswati) you will get the idea--she has studied 'Rigveda' and much more to understand music. Kesarbai was definitely very powerful in those days and was technically rich (in terms of music knowledge) but she lacked just a little bit in 'bhava' what mogubai had and Kishori does as well (in my opinion) I will try to post her Bibhas on youtube.

  • I cant agree with you more on the aspect of 'Bhava'! she is on record as saying how deeply devotional Indian classical music is and went on to explain the two aspects of Love, the external and superficial love we all know and the internal 'Aloukik' love we all fail to understand and persue which is the bond between us and our maker! itis this 'alokik' bhava which she so often captures and painting for us the layity!I will look foeward to your posts on UTube specially 'bibhas'

  • Could you please quit comparing greats..just ask yourself - do you have the musical understanding and the knowledge to rank one vs the other. I don't know about you but even with formal training, I am struggling to decipher what a great like Kishori tai or Kesar bai is singing. I don't mean the song, the notes, where she is using vivadi swars and why etc. Even after repeated listening it's hard..so just sit and enjoy what is being presented.

  • Wonderful! Hari Bol!

  • Thank you for this! Which CD is this from?

  • A great rendition from the great Kishori Amonkar. She is really a master of Khyal gayiki.

Can somebody post more songs of Hirabai Badodekar!!!

  • I like this song...not only because it has been rendered by Kishori Amonkar but also for its meaning.

  • Hi, this is Bhimpalasi and probably i was in the audience and it was QE hall in London MAY BE 5 YRS AGO??! It was Bhimpalasi and the vilambit was some 45+ minutes and i enjoyed every minute of it!!

!The next performance was raag yaman

  • Thanks to inwit for uploading this video.

  • She is an amazing singer. Note to the poster: this khyal is in madhya lay ektaal, not drut. They get to drut for only the last 30s or so.

  • Hi, this is Bhimpalasi and probably i was in the audience and it was QE hall in London AY BE 5 YRS AGO??

iT IS MADHYALAYA ok AND DRUT IS SHORT ! THE VILAMBIT WAS SOME 45 MTS AND I ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!

  • True that this section of the Khayal is in madhya laya and the earlier Vilambit was the composition 'Eye bamana' which lead to this madhayalaya composition( bandish) and drut some times is a tarana!

  • Spot On! Thanks for this - always thought its called a sarangi

  • hi wud any1 no here that if kishori ji plays a tanpura as her drone instrument or is it sumthin else?

  • She plays a sarangi. - Tushar Rao

  • no video, only audio?

  • Kishori is the queen

  • I'm a big fan of classic indian music. what a vocalist! amazing!

  • I'm just a westerner and normally I don't enjoy Indian singing so much, but she's very very good! I'm acquiring the taste...

  • There is no better classical than Indian Classical.Dhrupad is the king.

  • I am a westerner and still enjoy western classical, but Indian classical and semi-classical music has great depths of beauty. I especially appreciate the improvisational aspects and the expressiveness of the music.

  • Please don't get me wrong, western classic music has it's own charm, Beethoven, Mozart ,Bach and so.You can trace back Indian classic to about1000 to 1500 years, where as Dhrupad can be traced about 2500 years or so.

  • where'z d vdo????

  • Wow...Thank you so much for this...I have been searching for this very composition....it is so expressive and sensitive....Thanks again...

  • THe full rendering is available on CD. The vilambit rendering is just incredible.

  • Thank you for uploading this awesome piece. It's not everyday that one comes across Kishori Amonkar's works on YouTube ! Its ironic that Hindustani music's available on Web 2.0. Upload more I'd say!

  • awesome
