  • Does it sound morbid to say I hope I see a coronation while I live in London? I'm going to be here for probably five years or so. It would certainly be unfortunate for the Queen, but I think England could really use a coronation. 2013 maybe?

  • @disamjisa NO

  • @disamjisa Show some respect

  • @SILVERCLOUD141 Show some humour. It will do you good.

  • @disamjisa God willing Her Majesty has the longevity of her mother, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and will continue to Reign for another 15+ years!

  • @disamjisa And as for having 'Some Humour' we Brits have a greatly defined sense of humour. That dosen't mean it extends to the imagined death of the Queen who is with out a doubt one of the Greatest Sovereign's to have ever reigned of any part of the United Kingdom!

  • 1:23 always gives me goosebumps

  • Epic moment from that period

  • I love how you can still use mute on ads. Yeah, I love that. Although, you'd be mad to mute this. MAD!

  • Britten used Handel's music as raw material for his Champions League hymn. I suppose this is a prove of Handel's ability to be THE composer for public occations even now.

  • the worlds greatest intro

  • @ibeeneverywhereman absolutely, its best ever, and its such a rush to sing this with a 500 person choir with full orchestra

  • Thumbs up if you got goosebumps from 1:20 to 1:50

  • the chaaaaaampioooooonssssss

  • chooooon

  • Anyone got the ukulele tab for this? :)

  • I never never never realised Handel wrote the Champions League song. The impossible has happened, I respect him even more.....

  • @SFSylvester The Champions League anthem was written by Tony Britten but certainly inspired by Handel, it is important to remember that they are not identical works.

  • @DrBilton No it is arranged by Tony Britten written by Handel

  • @MegapPlayer UEFA says it's written by Tony Britten, check their website.

  • @DrBilton The music UEFA use is basically an arrangement of this. Tony Britten obviously got his material from this piece.

  • Absolutely adore the imitation dance part 1:54 - 2:46 <3

  • Myself being a "pathetic self hating cunt" with a "political correct, inferioirty ciomplex" (whatever that might mean - I wish folk would type carefully), meaning that I try to avoid looking at races compared to other races and instead consider people to be what the actually are - people - I feel that the Scottish Caledonian should remember that "white" culture does not come from whiteness: it comes from the situation that the white race developed in. We have a great culture because we're lucky.

  • @ASaxonAtHeart Luck has nothing to do with culture. C

  • @ScottishCaledonian I had hoped that it wouldn't come to this, but I suppose correcting a mistake does not count as arguing. The white race grew in power and success because of the land that it occupied. We moved into good lands, lived well, grew strong, built great nations, and a beautiful culture. It was nothing to do with our genes. In fact, where we come from created the fact that we are white just as much as it created our history and culture: our habitat made us everything we are.

  • @ASaxonAtHeart I am proud to be white. And what is better about European land than anywhere else ?

  • @ScottishCaledonian So you know, I refuse to engage in a debate with you. I personally don't understand racial pride, but I do take pride in my Britishness so I cannot object to it. I am no agrologer or geologer, but to my understanding Europe is very fertile. It has enough sun in the hot month and enough rain in the cold months (and the hot months too), without any really extreme conditions. Perfect for growing crops. Not reliant on flood plains like in Africa or unstable seasons in Asia.

  • @ASaxonAtHeart One of the most fertile placs on earth is central Africa which is rich in resources. And Many places on Earth share our temperate climate including, Eurasia, Asia, South America etc. Your point is invalid. As for understanding racial pride, I am proud of white aesthetics, white accomplishments and white cultures. I do not kn

  • @ScottishCaledonian As I said, I'm not going to engage with you, no matter how much it irritates me that you will come away from this encounter still convinced that you're right.

  • @ASaxonAtHeart Just remember that you it was you who inititated the conversation, I did'nt come to you.

  • @ScottishCaledonian I know I said I would stop but how can you be proud of white aesthetics? White people aren't responsible for being white, it's a byproduct of evolution that we've had no concious impact over.

  • @MrJackStill It makes absolutely no difference whether I can choose to be white or not. I am proud of having white aesthetics and I would choose to be whtie over any other race if I did have the choice

  • @ScottishCaledonian Would you have any issue if you were a black or asian person but living in a 'white' culture.

  • @MrJackStill Can you rephrase the question, I do not know what you mean ?

  • @ScottishCaledonian

If it were blacks, or hispanics, or asians that evolved in Europe and had all the tradition and history you are proud of, would you say the same thing?

  • @HelmutVillam I admire many cultures, so I see no reason why I would not. A bit of a stupid question.

  • Zadok on repeat? I think yes

  • I love this song we did it for my high school choral program

  • The Greatest German-British Composer EVER!

  • Handel was the first composer who made this kind of music a available to the "masses". Remember that!

  • @achantus1 You say that, but Handel's music was ignored during his life.

  • @MisuMakkusu except by the King and his court ...

  • Handel was the firsgt composer who made this kind of music a available to the "masses". Remember that!

  • Why is called Zadok the Priest? Loved the song though. Very regal

  • @bobby777knight look him up

  • @bobby777knight Check your bible, 1KIngs 1:39. This is used as an allegorical reference by the composer to the English Court, Handel, for the coronation of the English Monarch.

  • @bobby777knight

"Zadok the priest annointed Solomon... " The corononation from the old testament.

  • @bobby777knight because zadok was the priest who anointed (made Solomon king of Israel(Palestine) the reason its played at our monarchs coronation's is because they claim decent from Solomon and the house of Judah , thats why there lions on the royal standard. the lion of Judah.

  • White civilisation is the most beautiful civilisation.

  • @ScottishCaledonian SHAME MULTI CULTRULISM SPOILT IT

  • @ScottishCaledonian What a terrible thing to say. I hope you will one day feel ashamed of yourself.

  • @MrJackStill Fuck of you pathetic self hating cunt. White civilisaiton is the most beautiful civilisation on earth, shove your political correct, inferioirty ciomplex right up your arse you utter cock

  • @ScottishCaledonian It can't be that beautiful with you in it. And I am proud of being British and what Britain has achieved but what you're saying is just pure hate of people based on nothing more than skin colour.

  • @MrJackStill Loving my culture and civilisaiton has nothing to do with hating people. Your disgusting for even suggesting that. I love white cultures and civilisations - DEAL WITH IT

  • @ScottishCaledonian Not all white cultures are the same. It's a bit of a coincidence that you happen to love the culture of every white country. What if a group of white people had a culture you didn't like?

  • @MrJackStill I am well aware white cultures are different, however all whtie cultures share common values and have a common ancestral history and I am not aware of a white culture I do not like. If you have a problem with me loving white cultures than that is your problem, deal with it

  • @ScottishCaledonian Oh will both of you just shut up, please? Yes the Scottish Caledonian seems a bit of a foolish nationalist (and it's quite interesting that he seems to point out that Mr Still has an "inferiority complex" with that huge outburst of rage at the mere mention that someone disagrees with his point of view), but Mr Still definitely seems to jump to the conclusion that simply for loving "white" culture, the Scottish Caledonian hates other races. You're both awfully silly. Relax.

  • @MrJackStill Oh will both of you just shut up, please? You're both awfully silly. Relax.

  • @ASaxonAtHeart Yeah sorry you're probably right. I just think that loving white cultures is a phrase you don't see every day and it does imply certain things but I may have just got the wrong end of the stick here.

  • @MrJackStill What country do you live in MrJackStill ? Do not say a white country please, otherwise you are a vile racist, you are not allowed to live in a white country because that means you prefer white countries to live in which makes you a vile BNP racist.

    Does'n t it ?

  • @ScottishCaledonian We are clearly not going to agree or change our viewpoints so I think we should leave this discussion here as it's quite pointless.

  • Handel is a MAN!! That is all.

  • 4:30 best start

  • I like the Champions League version more.

  • @umgolem50k me too

  • i think this should be played at graduations. it sort of kicks Pomp and Circumstance's ass

  • ZAAAAAAADOK THE PRIEEEEEEST! AND NAAAAATHAN THE PROPHET! ANOINTED SOLOMON- KING! and all the people rejoiced. etc.

  • this playing at my wedding would be a dream...so beautiful and emotional

  • God-appointed monarch? Don't make me laugh!

  • This should only be used for God Anointed Monarchs..... and Justin Bieber.

  • @wilby55 You must mean at Justin Bieber's burial

  • THE UEFA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

  • Que hermosa obra de este gran maestro de la musica :)

  • Yeah, being medium amateur myself i used to communicate with Georg couple of times, and really, he has nothing against usage of his piece for CL opening.

He is also ardent dinamo zagreb fan!

  • @croal Nice to meet you. I am a medium myself. Il maestro told me he would play football as a right-winger had he lived today. He admires Messi and thinks Balotelli is a dumb-ass. As a matter of fact many classical composers are pissed off their composition weren´t chosen as an anthem of CL. You know...the ego

  • "The UEFA Champions League Anthem, which introduces worldwide television coverage of the event and is played during pre-game ceremonies at each match, is based on this composition."

I know, and I hate to see a composition as glorious as this Zadok The Priest being used for something as vulgar (and commercial!) as a football match...

  • They have appointed a new composer to write a new piece, the result is what you hear on the Champions League programs. No-one has ever played Zadok the priest on a Champions League program, ever, anywhere in the world.

Anyway, Handel would be fucking chuffed to bits to know that 250 years after his death a likeness of his music was being used as an uplifting anthem.

  • @TheHex90 Why do you have to use such bad language? Do you have no respect for the music or its religious message. People like you in my opinion should be banned from youtube for life. Grow up and learn to write comments without using expletives!

  • @TheHex90 thats one way to look at it... the other way would be to say. You write a song, someone comes along and makes a shoddy remix of it. Then the remix become more popular than your original work. Wouldnt you be pissed???

Maybe your an "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" kind of person... but I'm probably a purest to a fault :/

  • I sang this in choir,I was Soprano 2. I...hated ...this song...so much, and our choir teacher would get so mad that I started loving this song.

  • The Champions' League Hymn created 280 years before.

I image counts and barons playing football xD

  • Simply beautiful! Bravo Maestro Handel!!

  • George Frideric Handel was the composer. Who are the performers (Chorus, conductor, and orchestra)?

  • THE CHAMPIONS!

  • @functionalist972 not saying that they can't just hoping they wouldn't.

Who believes in the divine right of kings anyway? errr maybe Prince Charles does. All I'm saying is the music should be used for what it was intended leave hymns in church and football chants for the stadium.

would you start playing funeral music at a birthday party or a wedding?

  • que coronen a Leo messi de una puta vez .

  • stworzyć cos takiego.. po prostu bajka

  • As they play Zadok the priest a composition bigger than any man to introduce nothing more than a game played by those over paid, spoil't darlings, may be Christ will kick all of them into touch as he did in the temple which was used by thieves!

  • @dannygreen1991 Christ doesn't kick out his own anointed Kings, he kicks out politicians voted in by people.

  • "DIE MEISTER!!!

    DIE BESTEN!!!

    LES GRANDES EQUIPES

    THE CHAMPIONSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! lol....!"

  • People should stop going on about how it's 'Händel' and not 'Handel'. If I recall correctly, he was actually a naturalised Briton by Act of Parliament. So George Frideric Handel and Georg Friedrich Händel are both fine. The latter being his birth name, the former being the one he had it changed to. Naturally, it's 'Handel' as far as 'Zadok the Priest' is concerned, because it's the name under which he wrote it.

  • only a small part of this song was used for the champions league theme. it was great that it was used for the champions league theme too. that section of zadok the priest is too short. by extending it, showed that it was a great piece of music that really needed to be lengthened

  • This song had sex with football and out came the Champions League Anthem.

  • hey barca hey barca .......barcelona ftw

  • i kinda want to be queen just so that they'll play this song for me

  • I wish they'd stop playing this during champions league adverts. The Athem was meant for the coronation of a God Anointed Monarch!!! I don't remember reading about Zadok anointing a football match. Handel would turn in his grave to know that one of his masterpieces was used in such ways. Cheapens the whole affair...

Why can't they just pay a modern composer to write a new piece? Lord knows they need the work and the football industry has more than enough money to burn.

  • @abmong what are you talking about?! Thanks to UEFA people know this piece of Handel and actually love it. if it wasn't made UEFA athem much less people would have heard about it!

  • @martini215 They'd love it for the wrong reasons and in my view that's the same as not knowing it at all.

And would you really want football hooligans at a classical concert or an opera.

I'm not saying the majority of football (that's soccer for you americans) fans are idiots... wait a minute yes I am. well most of our English ones are anyway.

  • @abmong Who knows maybe Haendel would have been a football fan ;) It does seem weird though.. The music doesnt fit a sporting event.

  • Comment removed

  • @abmong Surely it's a good thing to get football audiences listening to classical music, even in extracts like this? Yes, it was designed for coronations, but the Fireworks suite was designed for fireworks, and we don't insist on playing at at fireworks. Music adapts and evolves, like our society, and I welcome the opportunity for a wider group of people to experience Handel's genius.

  • @abmong You're kidding, right? A modern composer achieving this grade of sublimity? Don't think so...

  • @mariodidier001 well you never know... there are good composers out there they just don't get enough exposure. instead we get all these manufactured tripe like x-facture winners and don't get me started on westlife...

Point is they could come up with a theme tune at least.

  • @abmong NOOO! Westlife songs are cool!! XD (I actually likesome of their songs :P)

  • @mariodidier001 Lol, hate to burst your bubble but as far as I know of westlife most their "songs" are badly performed covers of other people's works. And if they have an original I'd bet good money they didn't write it themselves and it's still crap.

  • @abmong What!? Covers! SO Uptown girl is was performed before, huh?... Hate this world :P

  • @mariodidier001 Try Billy Joel. Much better, but I have a feeling you already knew that :)

  • @abmong God doesn't exist and the monarchy is an anachronism. Now stop whinging you toff.

  • @ukulazy I'd have to agree that God doesn't exist on a personal level, but there are millions who'd say otherwise and who I'm I to say that they're wrong. As for the monarchy being an anachronism... well they are, but anachronism is not a by word for bad. We have a rich history and tradition, we should be proud of that fact and the monarchy is an important part of in. And who said I was a Toff... if going to public school's a crime then sue me.

  • @abmong I like the Champions League Theme too but if they remix "I was Glad" I would stop supporting Chelsea.

  • @abmong

    HOW DARE YOU!!!!

If it wasn't for the Champions League I wouldn't be aware of this song and many others like it. Stop being such a philistine.

  • @brightlights456X I'll dare quite a bit thank you very much! and may I suggest you tune the radio to Classic FM instead, really good for bedtime easy listening too. If you know what I mean

Don't get me wrong I'm all for more people enjoying classical music. Well ok... maybe not Chavs, but their isnt really any danger of that happening. The thing I hate is its association with an industry thats become more about fame, money and who slept with who than sport.

    Philistine? that's a first

  • @abmong

I see where you are coming from.

As for Classic FM, would you say it is better than BBC R3 or are they equal in terms of quality.

  • @brightlights456X Depends on what you're in the mood for. I started listening to Classic FM before I did Radio 3. Really Difficult to judge... Both are great for orchestral music, symphonies, concertos and such. I think CFM plays them on a more regular basis, which is my preference. R3 slightly better on the Choral side.

R3 has more of an eclectic mix if world music and Jazz which is nice.

CFM plays more cinematic scores and celtic folk music.

Depends on your listening schedule though

  • @abmong

"CFM plays more cinematic scores and celtic folk music."

Classic FM it is then. Thats what I perfer most.

  • @abmong As a recent Music graduate (who majored in composition) I whole-heartedly agree >.>

  • @humancondition28 always nice to see others who can appreciate the beauty and mathamatical complexity of composing a great classical piece. but heh you would know far more than I on the matter. I'm just a regular tourist per se. personally more from a fine art background than music.

  • @abmong : Sport has taken on a fascist mode. That is why and in Hitler's fascism having money to burn football has money to burn. One day British Bobbies will open fire on football supporters. Dozens will die !

  • @MusicPredominates Okaay... from what I can gather... I wouldn't quite put it that way. As much as I hate how commerically driven the football industry has become and the fact that UEFA operates on a monopolistic business model.

I don't believe the football industry or sports as a whole warrents such strong condemnation as to liken them the Nazi Regime! Whilst persons involved maybe over paid sycophants they're by no means murdering facists.

  • @abmong who knows...maybe Handel would be a big football fan if he'd lived today...don't get me wrong...it's great music, but Handel's still human right ?:)

  • @Ryenhard it's a possibility. He may have even played football at some point in his life. The Game's be around for hundreds if not thousands of years, in one form or another. Guess what I'm saying is that the idea of God and Kingdom would inspire, but football wouldn't have inspired people to compose this type of music. Even if Handel was commissioned to do a piece, it probably would sound nothing like this... True is, we'll never know.

  • @abmong I agree :)

  • @abmong wouldnt be as good though would it

  • @abmong Well, Football-Industry has quite possibly far more monatery Power than any of the Kings of the 1700s.

  • I wouldn't bet on that. We can't really judge anyway without doing some complex monetary conversions. Think about it... the Tzars literally owned like 75% of the lands in Russia and Queen Victoria had the Wealth of the British Empire. etc

  • @abmong Well, still today like in the old days the very few percent on the top owe the vast mayority of all wealth.

E.G. Palaces were huge monetary burdens to build, even for the Kings. And nowadway some rich People can easily rebuild original Palaces with even more Luxury. Taken as a whole, the Football-Industry most definately has more financial Power than kings of old times.

  • @abmong

Well, Abmong, they don't! UEFA just ordered an adaptation of this peace for their own purpose...

Even Aneka Rice couldn't use this music, even for a fundraising event, several years ago..!

But using it for something as vulgar as football? Should be a law against it!

  • @wkruit Cunt.

  • @abmong Handel was a composer whose priority was money, therefore he wouldn't be that disappointed :)

  • @abmong If it weren't for the Champions League I probably would have never come here, as unfortunate as it sounds.

  • @abmong mate everyone loves football so you can shut up!

  • @thegreenbullet12 clearly not everyone does. otherwise we wouldnt be having this conversation...

  • @abmong The music off the Champions league is different than this, looks like 70 music snobs here wouldn't even have a clue though

  • @themightyrara Actually the Champions League theme is an arrangement adapted from Zadok the Priest.

  • @abmong they only used the beginning of zadok the priest for the champions league theme song.

  • @abmong haha, how can you criticise the champions theme when you dont even know it. its obviously not this!

  • @Reaper28

Try avoiding embarrassment by doing a little search on Google before you post. It'll work you wonders!

  • @abmong It's the past, this music is just spectacular and they couldn't take better for UEFA hymn.

  • is it just me that instantly thinks champions league when i hear this?

  • @LewisMarriott95 yeah...champions league anthem is taken from this song!!! wikipedia sent me here...força barça!!!

  • The name is Händel not Handel....

  • @Godzi0815 Yes he was German born but later secured the British citizenship.

  • People say that us English do not care about the monarchy etc, but we do, and this was shown at the Royal Wedding, everyone was very proud to be British, and proud to sing our anthem!

  • Zadok the Priest is well-wicked, man! Totally sick chorus, bangin' harmonies, big musical motifs, y'get me? Handel is the bizzle, innit!

  • @planetkitchen How could he be wicked when it was he who helped King David during the rebellion of Absalom. Please tell where is the source why you believed he is wicked.

  • @MrEriesal He said Wicked as in awesome -.-

  • @planetkitchen What an illiterate comment. Why don't you learn to speak and write proper English?

  • @planetkitchen love it!

  • @planetkitchen Not for working class people then

  • amoore,

It also makes the hairs on my neck stand up every time I hear it.

Can you imagine how the congregation at the Coronation of George II felt?

They thought (due to the longish orchestral introduction) that this was a purely orchestral piece, how wrong they were.

It seems many of the congregation were literally dumbfounded when the choir came in,as many audiences are still today.

    What a glorious piece!

  • If the hairs on your back do not stand up when the choral kicks in then I'm afraid you have a dead soul.

  • @amoore2000 well said... :)

  • My mum wants me to walk down the aisle to this, walking into view at PRECISELY 1:24. I don't think I have much say in the matter.

  • @grizelda1986 Handel is always a good call. My wife used The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba for her entrance music. Sarabande is another good piece.

  • assimilation by any foreign people was inevitable to any and all cultures. Im just glad it was the British! Period!

    Long live the Queen!

    New Zealand!

  • I hate my country's past imperialism (I'm English), and I don't see worth in monarchy. But this song is beautiful regardless of what it stands for.

  • @Szaam

You must have been rather sad, then, when you looked out of the window today to see union jacks flying.

Or turned on the TV to see millions of people flocking to London.

I personally think that the monarchy is here to stay. And today has shown that the people want it to stay too.

  • i dont know if its because i lived on the isle of wight as a child and therefore regularly visited places rich in royal history like carisbrooke castle and osbourne house, but i remember affirming to myself from a very early age that i would be a royalist,.i love this music, i used to play this in an orchestra and it was always a favourite. fuck those roundhead republicans, LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!

  • Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anointed Solomon King and all the people rejoiced!

  • Wow, some brits who love their monarchy make americans look sane.

  • Maybe "TheMikeyReilly and beany1945" should both shut up and just enjoy this piece of music!

  • jonny english!

  • "zadok" means "ass" in Slovakia XD

  • They shuld have this at the Royal Wedding as a prayer that William;s life will be longer and happier than Diana's

  • @purplrosette dont jinx it

  • Sight reading this was fun XD

  • Sounds like the Champions League anthem
