i find as a solo piper the piping dont have to be perfect, they just have to be played beauityfully, all that perfect stuff is for old farts in bands, dont listen to those eedjits that have high-jacked piping with their o.c.d. syndromes, they are piping nerds...
you look like a piper as well as sounding like one, regards finnbarr...
Woah dude, slow down! It's a retreat, and remember what this tune commemorates. 1.2 million dead for an offensive that turned out completely pointless. That said, pay special attention to getting a good solid low G at the beginning of your throws and they'll improve greatly. Keep it up, not enough people play.
find a realy good pipe instructor, & make friends with other people who play, &get more involved in dillagently learning. Just would be nice to be around other pipers in generald. I know I have good potential, & I am very serious about learning. I live in MO & willing to travel. Ive dreamed of going to Balmoral college of piping.Kind regard too TheHighlandPiper!
@sgtcrab1 Bollocks, I'm not a fastidious player and I believe in playing with expression, but the particular issues I pointed out seriously degrade the tempo of the music so I pointed it out. Go take your pet peeve and that chip on your shoulder elsewhere.
I'll have my hands full on learning scots wa hae on my practice chanter soon. (just with grace notes, nothing fancier yet), maybe I'll make a vid of it. :P
Ah, well I put it to the side to be honest...but Shawn and my Pipe MAjor are encouraging me to join out grade five band on the pipes. So needless to say I'm working on my piping again. Hopefully this coming season I'll have some videos to post.. I took last season off, and really missed the comps, and bands.
Already in our grade 4 band as a tenor, and mid section instructor. I'm joining the grade 5's as a way of expanding my pipe band experience, and knowledge. Also, in the EUSPBA, we only have grade 4...no 4a's
the 56th taking of beaumont hamel goes quite nicely with this tune

Is this a lament or a march or a waltz? Too many tempos displayed. And don't tell me that it's down to personal preference.

My dad used to play this, it's one of my favorites.
You're holding one or two notes in the second measure too long. Double check the sheet music there my friend.
The notes are at 0:45 and 0:48 and 1:04
Keep uploading and good reeds to you.
