You know, I found the crows to be the best characters in Dumbo. The rat is annoying, the other elephants are jerks, the circus people range from being lowlifes to to scary as hell, and Dumbo never freaking speaks! The only other reputable character is Dumbo's mom, and she's locked up for most of the movie. The crows were cool, nice, lively, and freaking taught Dumbo to fly! You know, the the most important aspect of the character? I guess those aren't redeemable qualities though...

Ok, the Siamese cats are portrayed as "cunning, sinister, and manipulative" because they're cats. I think she forgot that cats are not always revered as "man's best friend." The Jungle book song with the orangutang was about that animal wanting to become human and falsly believing that all it would take was him learning how to make fire (man's red flower.) The characters were voiced by people of those ethnicities. yes they were given mannerisms which today might be racially offensive but at the time they were created they weren't. Ok, the Siamese cats are portrayed as "cunning, sinister, and manipulative" because they're cats. I think she forgot that cats are not always revered as "man's best friend." Cats are depicted as bad in many movies and cultures, they're not saying Asian people are this way. With Mulan they are representing the Confucian philosophy which did not give women a high status in society, men were expected to be superior. Mulan does not represent modern China in the least bit.

Based on the Emperor's philosophy he shows beliefs in Confucianism which also dates back centuries ago. Its comedy its cartoons parody it does not always imply to everyday life, and in some cases it does and some of it is true get the fuck over it. We have all been around long enought to know that these sterotypes are some what true maybe not for all races and all the people of those races but a lot of them are. I am Native and when I see other people's children jumping around and imitating my culture, I simply see it as ignorance or a lack of understanding on their part to truly understand my heritage. I often find it humorous, that people still believe in such stereotypes, and I also get asked regularly if I have ever lived in a tipi, and the truth is that we lived in a longhouse but we did have tipis for hunting excursions. I disagree with the evaluation of Mulan/China being misogynistic. I was 9 when I saw the movie in theaters, and understood that the misogyny was part of the time period, not the entire nation of China.
I think the adults in this video underestimate the intelligence of children, and that's really all there is to it.

It is very hard to complete an animated movie. It takes time and effort. Everyone makes mistakes, but its easy to point out the mistakes in the media cuz you spend too much time warching movies :P.

The ironic thing about the commentary on Mulan is that historically, women were treated like that, even in China. Footbinding continued up until the early 20th century in China. Social equality cannot be portrayed in all situations just because it is politically correct. Women were not equal socially at that particular time period in China.
