When you say counter do you mean using the left stick or shading left or right because i dont understand when the shading helps other than getting over picks
Various ways. (1) Be very skilled at LockOnD & OnBall defense. This requires good anticiption, counter defensive moves, & shading techniques. (2) Be knowledgable about Double-Teaming & proper Rotations. (3) Possibly Play Help Side & Contain/Rotate.
Just to name a few. It can be difficult at times to contain star players like that but can be done with the proper skills/techniques.
No there's no specific time that you're supoosed to release it but I generally release it when the offensive player is in an animation where he's not going anywhere and I have the advantage. This way, I can re-LockOn and contain easier.
ok thanx.. i have another question i rewatched ur 2k8 lock on D tutorial and it you say sag off until they make a move to the paint or changeof direction... in 2k9 it seems to not work am i suppose to play sag off lock on D then when i see the change of direction use the right stick to play tight or do i let go of lock on d and re lock back on when im in position where the defense will automatically be tight
During their change of direction, that's when you counter the move with LockOnD. Be locked on and ready to counter. According to the skills of the ballhandler is what will determine how tight or loose you play them.
Left-Trigger + Left-Thumbstick (move towards player's chest). Afterwhich, use the Right-Thumbstick to stay with offensive player while in denial defense. Refer to Part V (Cont).....Off Ball Defense (Deny).
the fight over the screen move. Should I be holding the lock on d the whole time and then press forward when the pick comes or should I press lock on and press forward the moment the pick is set?
Watch the details of the vid. Notice from 0:59-1:05 (the live action), I'm holding LockOnD for the duration of fighting over the screen (before & after). Then refer to 1:35 in vid for replay explanation.
Also watch for the shading switches. Notice that LockOnD + Left-Thumbstick movement + Shading (to the left, on top of screen) is used simultaneously in that particular Pick & Roll case.
When you fight over the top of the screen do you shade before they set pick or right as they set the pick? And should you press toward the player with the ball as or in the direction the dribbler is going?
tell you the truth when you watch real nba kobe and lebron blow pass people anyway so i stop saying people are cheesers when they use them. I hate anyone that scores more than 50 with one player
So do you feel that the tips for lock on D in 2k8 translated into 2k9. It was a lot easier for me to contain superstars in 2k8 but on 2k9 people just blow by me with the kobes, and lebrons on dribble drives. when it says you have to keep up with the ball handler to remain locked on, is that just from the left to the right of the player or do you need to move with them forward and backwards as well?sorry so long :)
Yes the LockOnD tips for NBA 2K8 translate into NBA 2K9. And yes, you must move the Left-Thumbstick (while holding LockOnD), in all directions, to keep up with the player to remain locked on.
man i never knew there was so much to this game no wonder i sucked for da longest lol but how do u fight through the screen also is there a way to stop one player from running the court and scoring cuz joe johnson wont stop his shit anyway 5 stars b keep it up
Zihin I just want to say very good tutorial. I've been following your tutorial for the past two years (well almost 2 years) and they've helped me a lot. The time and energy it take for you to make all these.
And your knowledge of the game..... and I don't just mean in 2K. I'm taking about basketball in general. You can tell you played organized basketball.

Both. Rewatch the video. It's explained how to use the Left-Thumbstick & Shading in order to counter the ball-handler's moves or P&R's.

Zihin, I'm still having problems pulling off
the fight over the screen move. Should I be holding the lock on d the whole time and then press forward when the pick comes or should I press lock on and press forward the moment the pick is set?
