I got to do an on-air phone interview with Lonnie Mack years ago. A very nice person and a great talent. No surprise SRV listed Lonnie as one of his primary influences.
How great!!!! One of my favorite songs...I need to find Cincinnati Jail now...and to see these two together! SRV is fantastic, also. WOW!!!! My only problem is I'm starting to do the things Lonnie talks about. Thanks so much for posting this masterpiece.
Consummate professionals both. they know how to step out and play a lead then fade back and keep it going while the other wails. Too many players want to always be the center of attention. The look on Stevie's face says it all. he was flat loving playing with Lonnie. Big ol' shit eating grin on his face! That's a happy bluesman right there!
The first time I heard SRV, I thought of Lonnie Mack. Lonnie was probably a strong influence. Me and my sister used to dance to Lonnie Mack playing "Double Trouble" in front of a Seeburg jukebox in the '60's.
Oh woowee... I'm in heaven ! Great Stuff. I hav'nt read all the comments here, but can it be true that someone has said anything negative about this clip of music ? Did your medication run out or what ?
@the12thwoman say hello to your cousin =] and tell him he have a supporter from Saudi Arabia >>> that's right! all around the world =],,,people are the real hall of fame! not some stupid judges!
@the12thwoman It will be criminal if Lonnie isn't recognised as one the great blues guitarists (and singers). Been a hero of mine since '63 and managed to see him in concert when he came to the UK quite a few years back.
@the12thwoman he sure does. I think the sounds he made in Cincinnati were the blueprint for 'southern rock'; blending rock, soul, blues, country and gospel.
Wait til WMG finds out we listened to this for free,....The LA NAZIS will shut it down. How can JEWS act like NAZIS?????? Fuck LA, FUCK WMG. BOOTLEG to live, LIVE to BOOTLEG! RATBASTARDS!
First off, you obviously have no clue what good guitar playing is. Second of off you obviously have no respect for anyone if you can insult a dead human being, a great human being for that fact. Third off, you have absolutely no videos up you loser. Or maybe you took them all down cuz people made fun of how you probably hide behind distortion? Either way, learn to have some respect, loser.
He looked kind of funny and dressed kind of funny(Not saying that to insult him, I love SRV) But he sure could play; and there's nothing funny about that.
Next best thing to-----(I'll say it) Nookie. A very distant second especially if you have icing on your lips. Great Post. This song is truly funny. Limp Biscuit's "I did it for the Nookie" is also great!
Here are some of the songs he did with a slide (live and in studio): Slide Thang, Will My Man Be Home Tonight, The Sky Is Crying, Give Me Back My Wig, Boot Hill, Star Spangled Banner, Tin Pan Alley, Slip Slidin' Slim, Couldn't Stand The Weather, Oreo Cookie Blues, etc...
As you said, he was great with everything he did, and although the slide may not be his first and best tool, he was still rockin and playing wow!
Boot Hill off of The Sky Is Crying album is slide? I have that poster hanging up in my room and I love that song. And I'm sure Slide Thang, Tin Pan Alley are off of In The Beginning album. But do you know where I can find the versions of the other songs you listed, such as Will My Man Be Home Tonight, The Sky Is Crying, and Couldn't Stand The Weather can be found? You're a die hard Stevie fan like me so I'm sure you know exactly where I can find them
im not sure about boot hill...im working on the song, at it seems to me that the intro and solo is slide but that the verses and the chorus is normal...
What a great video I was robbed of the chance of seeing SRV. I finally scored tickets to see him Sept 28'th 1990 at the Kern county fair and we know what happened I cried for days.
lovely song, fun lyrics, great guitars ( offcourse ), but there's an elctric version as well, on a bootleg called, mr.clean (just out of rehab) that will really knock ya of ya feet, with lonnie mack, it's probably one of his best guitar duets ( among the pipeline duet with his brother ) . + unbelievable versions of life without you, little sister, rude mood...etc..
he might mean the pipeline jam stevie and his brother did on a double neck guitar. its here on youtube somewhere. it turns into pipeline near the end.

I don't know where you can find them, sorry...
I do know that I would certainly like to have them and hear them (as much as you do)!
The reason how I know it cause I read on many SRV web sites of his live concerts that info.
If there is any help this is where those 3 songs were performed (info):
Will My Man Be Home Tonight - live with Thriple Threat, don't know what year...
The Sky Is Crying, Fitzgeralds - 1982
Couldn't Stand The Weather - Hordern Pavillion Sydney 1986.
