Wow, a SOLID 60 FPS at the highest settings and resolution? Much more than what I expected! I am getting this card for christmas and your video verified it kicks ass :D
I have an OK CPU but I am going to O/C to get good results. I just got a 24 inch 16:9 HD monitor and it runs at a native 1920x1080 so I will need to OC my CPU unless I go down res and ruin my quality or setup my 16 inch CRT (1024x800 or something like that) when I want to game. Running any game at 1024 or lower will be the freaking bomb on this video card.
I'm thinking...Build a system around the 4770 and upgrade the GPU at a later point. The 4770 will do what I want it to do mostly. AoC, Dragon Age, ArmA II, and OpFlash DR. SHould be good for that.
That's a good way to go. No point paying a lot for a DX 10 card now with DX 11 just around the corner. The 4770 is a great 'stop-gap' while you wait to see what Nvidia might come out with later and to see just how many DX 11 games will be coming out in the near future. But for upgrade from a 7 series geforce it's a no-brainer.
Just got OpFlash Dragon Rising and the 4770 devours it on max detail at 1280 x 1024(The highest res for my monitor). Since it did it so easily, I'm sure it would play OFPDR at max detail on a higher resolution too, since the game is 'consolized' graphicwise, with blurry textures though still looking good considering the scale.
From what I read the ATI 5750 will run a 128mb bus just like ATI 4770 with a clock of 700mhz and hae GDDR5 ram. Doesn't seem much different from a 4770 apart from the DX11 support. The tentative price is 115 pounds or at least 150 dollars. It also seems to draw a lot of power which is a drag for upgraders with low PSU's.
Maybe a bit faster, but running DX11 it will probably be a dog just like the first 8000 series Geforces and DX 10. Besides, by the time games start really using DX 11 at more than a rudimentary level (remember how DX 10 games originally just had a better explosion here or there?), the next gen will be out.
With price being at least $150, in reality higher as there will be high demand, low stock and no competition, Iits not a good buy when you'll only have GRID 2 to play for many months anyway.
All I know for sure is that the cheapo prices for these cards that we see banded about won't be anywhere near as cheap in Europe and in Romania where I'm living at the moment, I doubt I'll even see a 5 series card for 3 or 4 months! Same with the 4770, took 3 months after release before I even saw one available in the city I'm in!
Hmm...I could wait I'm not in that much of a hurry, however I'm wondering if by going the DX11 route if the other parts I've chosen will need to be upgraded as well. Making the system as a whole more expensive. So far I've spent about $568 and that's not counting Windows 7. Which will be cheap thank god.
Some performance balance is required between the cpu and the gpu but DX11 does not mean you need a better cpu, just a better gpu. I mean you don't need any better cpu with DX11 than the one you needed with DX10 and DX9!
Huh? I don't know what those cars are. I'll presume it's the new cards that'll support DX11?
Really though $100 for a card is as far as I can go. My budget is about $600, I might be able to push another $100 if I'm very lucky. Just way too many bills to pay these days, not enough money for toys anymore...
But I would like to know which cards you're referring to.
Since it runs Bioshock so well and other games as toutagamon has shown at very high resolution and max detail then at the res I play at (and many budget gamers I guess), this card absolutely shits on almost anything, especially Unreal tech based games(which seem to be every second game these days:)). Only time I had to lower AA and AF at my resolutions (12x10 and 10x7) was in the Crysis games, but still kept the detail at max(DX 10)! Great card if you want more life from an old machine.
Well I finally gave up on Nvidia after 10 years, because this little ATI card seemed to have everything I needed for a tiny price ( a little over a third of the cost of the 7900 GT I replaced when it was new!). I have an 3yr old core2duo 6400 with 2 gb ram and play on an 17 inch CRT that only does 1280x1024 so am not as demanding as I used to be:) This 4770 made it seem like I bought a new computer and keeps the wife happy as not 'wasting' money on a new gaming rig...YET;)
Oh I love your clever setup. Nice choice of gpu and cpu + overclock. If you wanted you could add a second 4770 for crossfire and tested them they beat by at least 10% the 275 nvidia. Very impressive.
Memory (System RAM) has nothing to do with the ability of the video card to render! That is, up to the point that your computer does not lag due to insainly low memory.
Nowadays, most gaming systems have 4GBs which are more than enough. More than 4GBs for gaming is just overkill!
60 fps... thats kinda low, im going to get a gtx 295 and i know it gets around 300 fps in bioshock at 1280 by 1024, and 180 fps in 1900 by 1200 i think. I used overclockersclub as a guide, and refrence for cards.
dunno, i just compare cards to see what i get. I have a ati radeon 2600 hd pro 512mb, and im kinda mad at ati that their cards are weaker than nvidia. The 4870 x2 is about 500 US, and gtx 295 500 US, and the difference between their fps in bioshock, and dead space at 1920 by 1200 is 80 fps. I am pissed at why ati is weaker than nvidia. Even if you compare cards at same price range, nvidia is always stronger.
Since you are talking about USD go to newegg and search for the lowest prices of 4870X2 and GTX295. You will see that the 4870X2 costs 380USD and the GTX295 costs 530USD. How on earth is that the same price?
As for Bioshock, go read Overclockersclub review of the GTX295. You will see that in 1920X1200 the GTX295 scores 206fps while the 4870X2 scores 189fps. How is that a big difference?
As for Dead Space, why on earth would you pay any attention to that piss ass poor excuse of a port of a console game, that has nothing technologically advanced to show and you are not takind under consideration games like FEAR2, GRID (best racer on the PC ever), HAWX, etc, that actually run BETTER on the CHEAPER 4870X2?
Also don't forget this. The day i went to the shop and got my 4870X2 for 450 euros (September 2008), the GTX 280 cost 580 euros! I rest my case!
How does the PC gaming fare in 16:9 aspect ratio. I ordered a Dell S2409W, should be here in a few hours. I spent quite a bit on my PC build. So any monitor will have to do at this point. I decided to go with one card and in a few weeks I'll grab another 4770.
16:9 is great man. You have nothing to fear. Ok some older games may not support these resolutions, but 99% of the games can be perfectly playable in wide aspect.
Now worries there. I don't even play Doom 3. I just set my Dell up via my wifes laptop. Stunning screen! The only problem is at a lower res the text looks blurry as hell.
How come ? I know having 3 cores is better than 4 cores, by just a few frames . Hmm . But what if you feel like doing some video rendering and oh, let's play Crysis, that kind, you know ? (: By the way, what causes the crashes ?
Games rarely put more than two cores in good use. Crysis is not one of them. Trust me, i had a Q6600 and now i used my friends X3 and i saw no difference.
Ok for video encoding you could see better performance with 4 cores, but jeez how much video encoding do you do? If your life depends on it, go for a recent quad core.
It is rumored, that the X3s come from X4 that have one bad core. So if you make the bad core available, you get crashes.
The settings aren't fully highest. If you want highest settings, you should turn off "force global lighting"

Crap, you are right.
I though, that having something to ON would be better.
Anyway, Bioshock 2 is out now, so I will be using that, for new hardware! :)

I looked up the code names you gave. The 5700 series by AMD.
So I wonder if I should wait...Or just pull the trigger on the 4770?
I'm not sure if I could even build a budget system around a DX11 card.
GreenGhost5 2 years ago
Well, the 5750 should cost around 100 euros while the 4770 costs around 80 euros.
If you are in a hurry go ahead. I am not very sure about the price anyway!;)

when people benchmark they turn it off (if they know that their FPS will be over 60)
