  • great

  • nice tempo/rythm

  • lol cool :) this piece is gnarly as hell to play haha

  • I'ts so amazing that we can memorise a zillion different finger movements and correct timing etc. Our capacity is amazing. Actually your capacity is amazing. Good on ya. Lovely.

  • I can play this too :)

  • I prefer this slow interpretation. Very nice :)

  • Sorry, what is the guitar which use in this video? Thanks!

  • very sweet, slow, and beautifully-played..

  • I really enjoyed your playing Keep it up :-D

  • youtube com /watch?v=BUWpL-YXkSE

  • ur sick

  • Excellent

  • Does anyone know what's the song that starts playing at the end of the clip at 5:40?

  • @rt312961 Granada by Isaac Albeniz /watch?v=X5cyUEzS6nA

  • @rt312961 granada por albeniz

  • Truly calms the savage beast. So beautiful and human! I weep.

  • Those 56 powder their asses with their noses.

  • Any who dislike this just don't have a clue. Poor souls. This is beautiful. A tremendous feat.

  • nearly there, good but not great...lack of passion..speed or something

  • What wonderful music!!! It looks nearly impossible to play... Thank you!!!

  • so slow

  • is your tuning dgdgbe?

  • NO ME HA DEJADO!

  • nice happy song...tricky as all get out.....loved it!!! thanks

  • This is excellent stuff - really is, great feel and very very cleanly played. I've been wanting to be able to play this for years, and watching you play it has just highlighted how bloody difficult it is, however I feel some strong inspiration now, as I did when I first saw John Williams play it.

    Brilliant, please keep it up.

  • 56 dislikes??? why good playing man...I am trying to learn this and I have all the more respect realizing how difficult it is. albeniz was so great

  • wtf 55 dislikes!,those 55 dont kno real music

  • wtf?! this guy teaches guitar at the high school I went to...

    Random!!

  • Great playing of great music by the great Albeniz...I am much impressd also by this young mans concentration on the piece in question and the wonderful way on occasions he looks directly into the camera lens as if to greet his audience in a most endearing way.The charming smile close to the end of the piece and the final nod of the head in respect are all complimentary. I think there is also room here for the guitarist to use more travel by the right hand to introduce tonal qualities.

  • Excellent playing and what a lovely tone that guitar has!

  • great job, this is a hard one

  • bravo! Encore encore.

  • great interpretation, full of colour and chromaticity as all albeniz's pieces have to be

  • I love this music, great passion in the playing of this piece.

  • Realy good video, I love this piece of music. AWSOME

  • beautiful!

  • awesome

  • i was just at at the Rosario guitar competition last weekend, and watched 3 people play this piece.... none of them were no where near as accurate as this..

    Excellent job.. Keep playing!

  • Beautifully played. Thank you for sharing!

  • Fine then. make a big deal?...

  • Nice playing! now just up the tempo a lil bit =)

  • This song says so much about my imagination. I like it so much. SEVILLA is my last name. :) what du u people think...!?!

  • @Abby8315 we don't care?

  • I have this sojng on a playlist and At 2:42 I thought it was a cello for the longest time! I just realized it was the gutar.

  • I admire this young mans virtuosity! I have been playing this piece for years (Badly, too!) Guitarists can practice Sevilla their entire lives and never get it right. There are many wonderful interpretations and aficionados will continue to debate them: Segovias, the more stately, aristocratic version; Barruecos, the more fiery, pyrotechnical etc., etc. This version is slower, true, but its played with reverence; and one can hear every note (¡Y qué rasgado maravilloso!) It gets my vote!

  • Difficult peice and I think you done a great job...Bravo

  • I agree about the cynics. When I used to perform and compete, complete strangers would come up to me and tell me where I made mistakes. There was only one problem. There were no mistakes. It's blatant jealosy. This man plays on a genius level. I have a refined musical ear and I declare it so.

  • very good (esp with such a high action length on those strings) WELL DONE!!

  • Great work ;)

  • Fanfreakingtastic

  • beautiful! GREAT WORK! ...I stopped studying :( ...I MUST start again!

  • The beauty of this interpretation is that the player does not miss one single note. He may need to refine his interpretation, and that is only obtained with practice and more practice, that is all !!. Very well done and brilliant future is envision if you keep practicing. I love this piece.

  • Raphael Rabello - Sevilla (Isaac Albeniz)

  • Not everybody can be John Williams. But the presentation is nice

  • "Not everybody can be John Williams"...lol! Too bad though.

  • Incredible talent on the guitar. Well Done.

This music is as difficult as classical guitar gets.

  • ClassicalGas91 the poping sounds i think they are armonics hahahaha

  • Beautiful!

  • oleee ahi mu bien tocao!

  • Highly enjoyable performance, bravo!

  • thank you for sharing! Blessings! enjoyed it!

  • Nice playing.. :)

  • Good playing, but you gotta strike your bass notes with your entire thumb, not only the upper part. And what are those popping sounds?

  • @ClassicalGas91

God you are an arrogant young man.

  • Now what is arrogant about my comment? I just want to help him? =)

  • @ClassicalGas91 want to help? post your own video playing this piece i think it will help him a lot.

  • Ok, I will do that within one month. Keep an eye on my profile.

  • JarrettKosmac you're realy "just sayin" because you don't even know what you're talking about. This mate isn't only "playing notes" he knows what he's doing and when I visited you channel I couldn't find an interpretation at this level. This is a hard piece and it's well played. Learn to respect different perspectives and interpretations because everybody have a different one

  • Senza spirito. Però bella la trascrizione

  • Never look at the camera or your audience. It is extremely distracting to the listeners. Also try to start interpreting the peice more. It seems like in this performance your were just playing notes. Add dynamics, colour change, etc. Really try to sell the passion you have while your performing other wise it looks like you dont care if your playing for the audience or not

    Just saying.

  • @JarrettKosmac I'd very much enjoy hearing your rendition of sevilla for a better understanding of what you mean by interpreting it.

  • JarrettKosmac you are complete tool. This is a very advanced piece and this young man plays it very well.

  • All constructive points. Nothing to get upset about here folks.

  • Jarrettkosmac what utter tripe.

  • maybe because he wants to SHARE, and not only show off !!! ???

  • plunker49 - you sound like an arse.

  • @ogdroadsong - the truth hurts, bud. If you don't agree with me then you just reveal the fact that your ear is made of tin. Youtube is bona fide Americana - oafs listening to oafs and thinking the result is marvelous.

  • I'm not American old man, it's easy to sit at the back like Waldorf and Statler and say this guy is crap and anyone who disagrees must be crap aswell but he obviously isn't and he doesn't sound mechanical. You are most likely just a jealous bitter old crusty who is pissed off cos he never had any talent and wants to belittle people who have. Sod off you cloth-eared old git you obviously don't understand music - go listen to some Celine Dion.

  • @plunker49 Well, jeez, I hate to spoil your pipe dream, bloke, but I have 2 degrees in music and have studied with Fisk and Ghiglia among others. I'm quite sure I know what good music sounds like, and this ain't it. And I suspect if you tap your ear gently it will make a metallic tinking sound. Bugger off, bonzo.

  • Since when is music about degrees cloth-ears? I've encountered many Americans on youtube who claim to have degrees in all sorts, seems you can get nearly anything on e-bay these days. I don't think you have a clue about music you ignorant old twat, piss off Waldorf!

  • its his right to share whenever he wants to, none of your concern. if it is, go elsewhere.

  • Ah, jeez, not another whining ass, bleeding heart, brainless do-gooder. I'll bet you voted for Obama too.

  • Why bring Obama into it Waldorf? So you're a custy old hater AND a racist red-neck? These times must seem a bit confusing for you huh? A black man in the white house? NO! Just let go Bubba, you're too dumb to participate in this brave new world - just go whittle yourself a burning cross or something and shut the hell up.

  • lmao, ill bet you voted for McCain being the brainwashed drone tool that you are. There is no excuse for voting republican, no excuse.

  • @FightOpression Or democrat. Fucking partisan wankers.

  • you're just playing with your fingers...not with your heart, too! IMHO..of course...and moreover the first part (G major - G minor - Eb) should be played a bit faster...whereas the second one (C minor) should be more expressive...anyway I think you play quite well..good luck!

  • It's not a matter of "I prefer this tempo" or "It's perfect because it's easier to play". The original spanish rhythm on which this piece is based is called "Sevillanas" and its natural character is a bit more "vivace".

  • wow hes badly off compared to my guitarist in my band.....n hes only 18 yrs old.(seriously)

  • The tempo is perfect on this difficult piece. Why all the negative comments relating solely to the tempo? I enjoyed this piece and I appreciate the skill involved to perform it as beautifully and passionately as Edward has here.

  • angels, you're a moron

  • Wonderful job. But am I the only one who is disturbed by how the world has ALL become cynics here on YouTube. Why can't you people just ENJOY his beautiful playing. Gee, you fault his tempo, and say it's NOT incredible. Geez!

  • Great job on this difficult piece Edward!

  • Comment removed

  • Try checking out Jamie Amir playing Sevilla

  • i like this tempo very much, much more than the original version. i think that on this tempo the songs sounds more emotional. and its easier to play

  • I prefer this tempo too, if I learn it I might take it even slower in parts.

  • This sounds a lot like Konrad Ragossnig's arrange but slowly...

  • Great job. I have worked on this piece and know how difficult it is to get it right. You got it great!

  • its ok, but originally the song is faster.

  • Whoah, anyone who complains about this video is either elitist or closed minded, seriously, both musically AND technically this piece and artist are incredible. Shut up, seriously, you just don't know how stupid you sound suggesting anything other than that.

  • its ok, its not incredible

  • I wish I could play that well... faults and all, I enjoy his playing. People should quit their petty whining and enjoy.

  • massa pa caraio

  • GREAT !!! Greetings from Indonesia

  • felicitaciones!

de una belleza extraordinaria, realmente muy hermoso.

    gracias!

  • i like this speed...keep up the good work........

  • Well played, almost perfect in fact, I think it works to play the piece at this speed, if you want faster, try Adam del Monte's version.

  • i just heard this piece for the first time. i think the tempo is fine. but i have nothing to compare it to, im going to look some others compos. for comparison. but your style when viewed by itself is very good. i like it, and i like tommy emanuel, so that must mean your pretty good.

  • that was beautiful

  • I thought the timing was very passionate in most places. It also reminded me of Segovia's version.

  • Man, these classical guitarist commenters sure are a tough crowd. I guess it goes with the territory. Unlike other genres of music, when virtually nobody is composing tunes for classical guitar like that Spanish beauty, thus, the name of the game is to learn the established, technically involved pieces that demand precision. Then, I guess its why that makes for a bunch of sticklers. Just part of the fun!

Hadn't heard Sevilla in quite a while. I thought it sounded good

  • It was not composed for the Classical guitar.

    Albeniz composed for the Piano.

And yes it is a very hard piece and it is obvious the amateur critics on here do not have a clue.

I can play it with difficulty and I would like some of you armchair Segovia's to actually try and learn it then come back and comment.

This is a very good recital.

  • loved it

  • Nice rendition.

  • woah im trying to learn this song and yu are my inspiration!!!!!!!!!:D

  • nice and slow, with feeling. Liked it.

  • its not supposed to go that way, you can do that with pop music but not classic. full classic.

  • When you say "not supposed to go THAT WAY", what way do you mean? You're not being clear. It just sounds like you don't know either what you mean, and r just talking for effect. I'm sure you're not - so explain!

  • A bit too slow...

  • Nice job! Good video too.

  • There used to be wonderful videos on youtube of Bream doing this and other pieces of the Suite Espaniola, with lovely footage of the places, but now I can't find them. Anyone know what's going on?

  • Exquisite playing! Masterful technique! I applaud your proficiency and bow to your skills!

  • um sorry to let u down but the tempo is kinda awkward and too slow..

  • I agree. Individual notes are well sounded, but the tempo is noticeably slow.

  • Hey all you "speed freaks", Manuel Barrueco said "if you want to learn to play fast, learn to play slow without mistakes". This guy is maturing, developing. We are all travelling this road. Sure, it needs to be livelier, but let's point out as well that he has done some solid work so far, and encourage the guy, without seeming to knock him.

  • Ok. Ur right. Sorry. I'm wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • @PeterOzanne Why can you not simply play fast without mistakes, It is what I do with every song and there is nary issue with the method. Your performance varies directly in proportion with your practice and thus if you practice in a lethargic mannor it will simply augment the difficulty of performance at or above speed. Holding ones self back is purley a foolish act of one who has no business handleing an instrument of any sort. Hard work triumphs of all, especially that odd con you suggest.

  • @PeterOzanne Absolutely.

  • @PeterOzanne Funny you should say that, since Barrueco's second recordings (Albeniz/Turina CD from 1997, vs 300 Years of Guitar Masterpieces from1992) of this Albeniz suite is actually slower. Also, I prefer the faster version, although nog because of the speed but the increased dynamics.

This guy did a fine job, nonetheless. Always keep studying as there is always more to learn, whether your name is Edward Grigassy or Manuel Barrueco!

  • A bit slow? That's ridiculous. A piece of music does not have to be "blast-beat" speed or the speed of light to be beautiful and admired.

I think it's a great speed, it sinks me into the music. Good job :)

  • yeah your'e right I think, but I think this piece needs some more speed...a bit...this speed is not too awful, but sometimes it's too stakato^^

but boy, what a sound...he's good, fuck the speed :D

and I think you've gotta see him live, video-records fuck up the sound of a guitar, I can prove that :D

But if you watch all the piano versions, you will say that they are TOO fast....gotta find something between those..

  • Pristine.

  • Well done Spot on if you had played it faster you would have joined the Speed Kiddie Club

  • first of all ...let me say..i went to your critics pages and looked at what they had posted...let me tell you...don't worry about those absurd comments...you have and absolutely immpecable approach to the song...i listened to segovia play it millions of times and you are on it... very good job....i play too...

  • music is all about interpretation, i love it all, i love this piece and see no wrong here, wish i could play it. too slow? no!

  • bit slow but well thats not bad you the best one to show that you can play it slow too

  • too slow

  • It's good, but it lacks the rhythmic pulse of the Sevillanas itself.

  • i agree. but still, well played and great for learning purpose. if you want to hear how a superior sevilla tones, listen to julian bream playing it.

i sometimes wonder if guys like bream, for example, interpret the composition exactly the way composer himself wanted or even better. it would be good to hear what they would say honestly.

  • This is much slower than John Williams or Christopher Parkenings versions, but I liked that slower feel in some parts. Parkening always tries to shred as fast as possible, not always the best way...

  • I agree, People say, "too Slow" If I wanted to listen to Bream or Williams, then I would have listened to Breams or Williams. People also said that Glen Gould played Bach too fast. Does that mean Gould was crap?

This is a beautiful interpretation. Two thumbs way up!

  • Actually , your comment was foolish.

I made no claims of my own ability, nor critisized "This guy", and if I had posted a vid of my rendition of Sevilla, you would be the last person I would want commenting.

Go find yourself an aggresive vid on terrorism or something, rant there instead.

  • muy buena interpretación!!!

  • Perfect

  • slowly...This is ¡sevillanas!

  • love your style playing.

  • Albeniz, bien hecho.

  • C'est magnifique ! Bravo.

  • absulutely FANTASTIC PLAYING!!! my respects.

  • Who made that guitar?? Nice playing!

  • Lovely and clean, this would be fantastic through a touch of reverb.

  • who makes that guitar?

  • just WOW!

  • Ed, love your playing. Thanks for sharing.

  • i want him to play at my wedding

  • Your version of Cuba and Sevilla are awesome. It is a prime example how care and patience is as valuable as fast tempo.

  • Altough, the speed is quite necessary to feel the dance in it, as it was composed as a dance.. ;)

    Wonderful playing! :O

Ofcourse, not when compared to the likes of (if any) John Williams..

    ****

  • excellent sir

  • NICELY played, only josé mourinho would do better

  • beautiful peace keep up the good work...

  • well don ^^

  • Not bad...

  • soberbio

  • harmonics are brilliant

  • I'm in awe at this perfect performance - I just posted my own slip-shod take on this tune and although fun to do, it's not so great to listen to. Keep 'em coming!
