used the 50 number as exmple because I din't have the distance in head at that time. I recognize now it was way too small, but still, 50 lightyears would be enough to resorb the sound waves :)

and btw the propagation "media" is air. It goes through air :] (or water, but you won't hear the same sounds in water). radio waves would get through though (and most of physicians attach a lot of interest to radio waves coming from space)

Unless you can create energy from nothing, you have to consider star exploding or cooling down or changing into something else. For years blackholes were just a theory but today, even if we didn't see one, we've seen things that are most likely blackholes (accretion disks, jets, stars thrown by gravity in the middle of galaxies). So we don't have proof that they are blackholes but it is most probable thing. Same with stars. We don't have proof, we have theory that is most likely to be true ;)
