nobody talks about short people because you dont count. Did you see the "You must be at least this tall" sign to record a video on you tube? you fail!
To continue...partly, the "less serious" thing has to do with clothing. Regular sized clothing doesn't have the same kind of fit as petites. If a woman 5'2 woman is wearing a suit designed for someone who is 5'6", it will not look as good, even after alterations. Petite sizing on the oher hand is made for shorter people (shorter hems, higher waists and rises & even smaller buttons/pockets) and the individual won't look as off wearing them (& maybe even pull off more styles!)
@ZannaTheBanana: Yes, going to the kids' department is a form of discrimination. What can a grown woman buy there which will actually make her a grown woman - besides t-shirts and jeans? (and even then, only certain brands fit more mature bodies (just because one doesn't wear a DD bra doesn't mean that she doesn't have "curves)...Then there's the whole career thing. Short, young-looking women just aren't taken as seriously because ppl think they're more junior.
@alumnagirl No I wouldn't consider being directed to the children's department "discrimination". I mean seriously? Out of ALL the different types of discrimination you could talk about? Or be concerned about? To be honest, if all you have to be worried about is brands not carrying your size or *GASP* maybe once in a while being called "cute", then you don't have much to worry about at all. Consider all the people who watch your video and who consider you lucky despite the fact you are small.
HAHAHA tell me your kidding! This is hilarious! If it is, well the reason no one cares is...well it's not important, seriously, not at all. People talk about obesity because it can endanger your health. Please tell me this is a joke.
@MrCitizen28 Nope, no joke. Being short is a body image issue, just as plus sizes are. Not all "plus" people are overweight, after all. If you're say, 5'10", being a size 14 is still healthy. It's like being 5'0 even and say, a size 8 or so. I don't think people understand proportion very much at all.
Im really sorry, this is obviously a really big deal for you and I respect that, but honestly, I dont think anyone is going to take this seriously. Im short too but I really think that there are MUCH more important problems in the world.
@alumnagirl No I wouldn't be saying that if you were overweight. Obviously because being overweight can kill you, while being short... Just means that you're short. And to be completely honest, out of me (the short one) and my "fat" friends, they are the ones constantly dealing with prejudice, not me.
@ZannaTheBanana Yeah, but short people prejudice is often "positive" especially for women. For example, some people might consider being "cute" positive, but is it, really? What about those who're short and skinny and cannot find clothes in the regular adult department? Would you consider shop assistants directing you to the kids' section discrimination or not? Because the kids' section doesn't always have things that adults are looking for (only good thing is the cost).

I'm petite - 5'3 and have no problem with my height. Or the fact that media doesn't give it the "proper" attention. There are more worthy causes than this.
@kaleighm12 Right, but shouldn't height be considered a body image just like weight is? If I wore a size 16 rather than a 0 and complained about being a 16, then I wouldn't be getting this kind of feedback. Just a thought.

@ZannaTheBanana What's interesting is that you wouldn't be saying this if I were fat.
