One mention of Phoebe's family in the beginning.....but she died and they didn't even mention it....yet Dixie and Stuart were HELLO THEY CAME BACK Clearly Leo and Phoebe could have filled those two spots. sad really sad :(
Want to let the advertisers know you want AMC, OLTL & GH to remain on the air? Come to the ABC Upfront Presentation Protest Rally in NYC outside Lincoln Center on May 17, 2011 from 2-6pm. For more info, visit the Soap Fans United website. Tell your family & friends!
Did they really kill off Stuart?!! Haven't watched regularly for a decade or more but... they should have kept him, if just to have him appear occasionally. (He's such a good/interesting counterbalance to Adam). Maybe David Canary wanted a lighter work load?
Guess the art at 0:56 was meant to be Stuart's, he & Adam as kids back in Pigeon Hollow WV. - Adam & Palmer, titans of industry, both from hicktown WV! (Being from nearby VA highlands myself I always remembered that.)
These scenes seems to blur the distinction between actor and their role... I thought that was Eva La Rue *herself* losing control and saying 'can you stop the tape'. (Maybe it would seem different if I'd watched parts 1-3 first...)
As others have commented seems anymore soap Anniversary shows focus on current characters too much.
Seems producers see them as a chance to mostly promote the *current* show, past history gets short shrift.
And why didn't Erica mention the death of her--"unabortion" son, Josh??? Perhaps because the actress, as well as most of the audience, would rather forget Megan McTavish's HORRIBLE writing decision to undo such a GROUNDBREAKING storyline from back in 1973--daytime television's first abortion. Still, it would have been nice for her to at least MENTION her son. As I said before, BAD WRITING.
It's funny how when Julia died the whole town managed to forget about her death in only a few episodes, and I don't remember Mateo or Maria returning for her funeral. That is not the ACTORS' fault, though. I chalk it up to BAD WRITING. This show has suffered from bad writing for almost 7 years now.
It was just mentioned that she went to Africa to do a media story of some kind. Though Brooke and Erica were great rivals, I gotta say that Erica's TRUE rival was always the late Natalie.
You do not need all of the characters to make a great show. All you need is the love and support that the present characters give to the ones that passed on and the ones that are grieving as a result! Great tribute show. It showed all moments. That's what makes a soap opera! 40 and counting AMC!
I wish there had been more of Lilly, but I'm glad that Zendall were there. Over all I really liked this episode even though I didn't know all the characters.
i wished there were more interactions! but for what it was it was good, just wish there was a third episode where we got to see them all interact! maria and Mateos part really touched me tho, someone finally acknowledged Julia
Kinda boring. I was hoping for scenes with Brooke & Erica or Mateo & Maria or heck any couple. We saw Haley hug Adam, and touch Jr's hand. Yeah love love the show. I met many of the stars over the years. I was just a little disappointed. Looking forward to the 50th!
Just one more bad AMC episode. In the course of the past 10 years, this show has gone from one of the best to pretty much the worst and sadly, the 40th anniversary show was the exclamation point to the decline. Frons and Carruthers have just GOT to go!
Not a bad show overall. But how the hell do we not get a single Leo mention or Greenlee/Leo flashback!!! That's inexcusable and really disgusting. I don't give a damn about Rylee except that they don't ever happen again. I wanted to see some TRUE LOVE!!!
The actors who played these other big characters such as Leo, Greenlee, Vanessa, Nina, & Michael Cambias have to be PAID FOR THE FOOTAGE according to the laws of SAG (Screen Actors Guild). that's why you only see footage from the PRESENT CHARACTERS.
Thats actually not true. The show owns the characters and the footage that is shot. it is why they can show Dixie whenever they want, but not pay Cady. Or put together a montage. Old shows become stock footage to be used by the show whenever.
@Kris1907 Cady McCain probably gave AMC the go to show some of her footage because she was most likely given something in return. that's usually how it works and it's VERY EVITABLE that was the case because since this is AMC's 40th Anniversary, then why do you keep seeing footage from the actors that are MOSTLY PRESENT in this 40th Special? Coincidence? I think not. If I recall, these were not the only characters on this show unless I'm just crazy.

Question on the Bianca front, was she still with Reese at this time?
Question on the Riegel front, was this after she left for good?

In 40 years was there ever a time or situation when Ruth Martin wasn't smiling?

@yooperlooper I think only when her house was destroyed by the tornado.

omg, they barely mentioned Phoebe!!!!

Even though I haven't watched the show in a year... I still get sick of hearing about Babe.
It might survive the death of the soaps if it brought some of these people back...
like Bianca... and Maria... and Brooke.

Agnes Nixon is the woman who created All My Children, so technically, all the characters are kinda like her children lol
