"Thoroughly Modern Millie" - Mrs. Meers Part I ~ April 2009

I am having auditions for Thoroughly Modern Millie!!!! I want to be Mrs. Meers sooo bad! My chinese accent is ok and very stereotypical....I just don't know about my New York gangster accent. Also, are there any tips about her presence, walk, attitude, singing voice, etc? Anything would help!! Thanks! Kudos to the cast in this production!:)

Hey, thanks so much for putting up these videos! My school is doing TMM, and I got Mrs. Meers! Even though I thought I wasn't gonna get it, I did! Callbacks were awesome, everyone couldn't stop laughing when I I did the accent. Maybe it helps having an Asian mother for stuff like this... Haha, thanks again! :D

@cuber4everz2 Hello! One thing to keep in mind when auditioning for the role of Mrs. Meers is that, technically, Meers (Daisy Crumpler) isn't supposed to be a good actress. (She only *thinks* she is.) So, if your accent isn't as spot-on as you'd like it, that's ok, because it doesn't really need to be. Meers is a Caucasian woman and former actress pretending to be Chinese. So her accent, while it needs to be good, also needs to be rather stereotypical. Hope this info was helpful :)

@cuber4everz2 try to turn L's into rolling R's fnygrl does a fantastic job and doing this! along with her TH's like in "Dorthy" try it more like "Dor-tea" Hope it helps, these were a lot of the tips I got from my friends when I got called back. :)

my schoolis doing thoroughly modern millie jr and i am mrs meers!! im doing pretty good but im having troubles with my voice. the director says its a littel to high. i have to get it lower so it sounds more "evil" ughh.. but its really fun!!

Meers is a great character part - I would recommend to just have fun with the character. Create little nuances for her whether it's the way she speaks or moves. Break a leg and keep me posted :)
