i was watching another vid and some nobody was talking about how Mr.Todd isn't even an asset to the band... apparently hes not a musician though cus its obvious this guy is great all his basslines are sick
@g8mboi He is one of the best bassists in the world. In fact I have a very hard time naming any better. To play that many different styles of playing along with that many genres of music, its just incredible. Best bassline I have ever heard is when Coheed covered Red Rain at Bonarooo, please search it on here, it is nasty.
@g8mboi No problem. I loved the fact that the audio was bad, but the bass was way more audible than ever. I cannot even imagine what he would come up with, if this was a funk, blues type band and not so guitar-driven. He does amazing in any situation though.
i absolutely LOVE this band, and i agree 100% that mic todd is a very underrated player. i never see his name on top prog lists. HOWEVER, theres no way in hell he's "the best" in the world. i know its relative, but there are loads of contemporaries that can play circles around him. Billy Sheehan, Dave LaRue, John Myung, Dave Meros, Tony Levin, Pete Trewavas, Sean Malone, Jordan Eberhardt just to name a few.
This guy is the reason I ever even picked up a bass. I started on guitar and because of Mic I switched to bass and stayed there. Gotta' love Mic! I met him and the rest of Coheed back stage too and I gotta say Mic was the coolest and nicest of the group, though they were all nice.
I'm super inspired and influenced by flea as well as you Mic. Awesome getting to see you guys this up close. Missed neverender, but I'll catch you guys again sometime.
@MichaelRobertTodd I'm still imfluenced by flea, even though i've encountered several new styles of bass through my time playing. I remember starting off just wanting to play some basslines of Uplift Mofo Party Plan. Good times.................
i dont understand why people are giving you thumbs down..his bass parts are not the most intricate, but they definitely not easy. your right though, one of the best bassists today.
thats an incredible understatement my friend... there needs to be far worse consequences for yelling for someone other than mic during one of his rare solos.
@bassist13 I believe he was saying that so people could the beat when they were clapping along, and not necessarily trying to deter attention away from Mic. Just sayin'
@GodModeGaming I don't mean to butt into this conversation but, comparing 2 musicians who play completely different instruments is just stupid. You could never do that. You don't play the instruments in the same way. Unless you put Mick on the drums and Chris on the bass, you could never compare them that way.
@zagorith14 Or you could compare Mic as an apple to the other apples in the world and Chris as an orange to the other oranges in the world and see that Mic is pretty much one of the best apples there are, whereas Chris, albeit a good orange that is very talented, just isn't on the level of being one of the best, there are several oranges with similar taste and juiciness, however there are many more that are above and beyond his level of orangeness.
@GodModeGaming For 1: I'm not 7 years old. So you completely wasted that comment. 2: As I said before you can't compare 2 musicians who play 2 completely different instruments. I play drums, a friend of mine sings. I can't compare myself to his singing when I don't sing. And he can't compare to my drumming because he doesn't drum. Unless he played drums as well as sing and I sang as well as played drums. I couldn't compare myself with him. It works the same way with Mic and Chris.
@GodModeGaming Hahaha! That's coming from someone who tries to compare the level of abilities of 2 incredible musicians via apples and oranges. Dude... Enough. You are just making a fool of yourself. Lets just end this dumb argument with this: They are good musicians at THE INSTRUMENTS THEY PLAY ( I used caps instead of underlining them, so you can understand). You can't compare different musicians if they don't even play the same instrument. Even by level of talent. You just can't.
@GodModeGaming Oh! Btw. That last sentence you typed. "Doesn't take a genius, but apparently you aren't up to the mental abilities necessary of doing so." You should have stated it like this, "It doesn't take a genius, but you don't have the mental capacity for doing so." I don't mean to be a douche bag, but when you state that I'm not, in other words, smart enough to compare musicians when I'm a musician myself. Is completely contradictory to the truth. Thusly, you are an idiot AND a liar.
than u clearly dont pay enough attention to coheeds basslines because he is one of the best bassists to come around in a very very long time. hes phenominal in very many ways. i would also like to point out that i would get extreme enjoyment out of beating the dude that said "watch chris watch chris!!"... bassists get few solos as is, let alone mic takes even fewer solos and its rare of him to have one, so dont ruin it, take it in. when its chris's time you will know it he make sure of that
Mic Great bass player, but what I find funny is that half those people at that concert probly didnt even what song he was playing. I glad to see that Jaco and Jazz still live on
What an awesome choice. Mic Todd is such an under rated bass player. That guy should be on the cover of every bass player magazine available to mankind.
i never really noticed until one day i was listening to coheed and i was listening to the bass in all their songs and i realized that he's fucking amazing!
dude i didnt have a pass!! i bumped into mic when i went for a cigarette after the gig...happened twice. i tried to blag a marlboro red...he wasnt having aNY OF IT
@modestmus I thought the same thing. When they played in Rochester last year they had an autograph session/meet and greet before the show. Claudio seemed to be uncomfortable being there. As if he was thinking, "why are all these people here just to see me?" Nice, friendly, answered questions, took pictures, etc. but they just seemed to be surprised hundreds of people would show up just to meet them. And the meet and greet was limited to the first like 200 people, I'm sure more would've went
I cant wait to see them on Neverender. Ive always wanted to see Mic in action live. Im going to the good apollo fear through the eyes of madness one. I hope during the final cut mic todd does this.
Right, that's not my point though. Though they might not have been directly influenced by Rush, Mic plays Geddy's signature Jazz Bass all the time. So even if the influence is indirect, it's still there.
I wish people would stop reaching to make comparisons that aren't there. Claudio and Geddy both sing very high. The comparisons end about there. The fact that he plays a Geddy Lee signature bass is a coincidence not an indirect comparison.
I think it's funny that everyone in these vid comments is like "OMG COHEED IS NOT INFLUENCED BY RUSH AT ALL WTF RUSH SUX"... when Mic is playing a Geddy Lee signature Jazz Bass. Food for thought.
Also Teen Town never sounded creepier. Pure awesome.
They're actually not influence by Rush at all. Claudio's stated that in many interviews. He's also said that he had never heard any Rush material at all until 2004.
actually he had heard some of Rush's work before that he just didnt like it back then, A friend of mine cut out a magazine artical for me with Claudio Sanchez from sometime in 2003 around the time of IKSSE in it he was talking about a band he was in during his teen years and the guy he was in said they were gunna play Rush covers and i remember Claudio's reaction was "Who the fuck is Rush" so that shows he must of never cared in the first place.
Well I saw an interview with him and the band, and the interviwer asked Claudio if he was influenced by Rush and if he modeled his singing voice after Geddy Lee's. Claudio told him that nobody in the band was influenced by Rush, and Mic and Josh actually hate them. Claudio said during the time when they were recording IKSSE:3 he had went out and picked up some Rush material and wasn't a fan of it. He said he had heard of the band before that, but he had never heard any of their music.

Dude, i got to hang out with them all for like an hour after the show. They're all really nice, but Mic and Claudio are especially shy :D
modestmus 3 years ago 4
hah,thats a little funny,and i envy you T.T
youd think claudio would be uhh....not shy? lol
he sings in front of thousands of people every day o.0
IAmTheWar 3 years ago
Aww that's so cute x3 I could definitely see Mic being shy but Claudio?
TakashiMoriChan 3 years ago

Ya....that's cause its...a cover. They transitioned "The Final Cut" into an homage to Jaco Pastorius
modestmus 3 years ago

What Kind of Bass is that??

Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass
modestmus 3 years ago
Right, that's not my point though. Though they might not have been directly influenced by Rush, Mic plays Geddy's signature Jazz Bass all the time. So even if the influence is indirect, it's still there.
That bass channels Geddy Lee's mojo.
CHANNELS it. ;)
Jacklolwtf 3 years ago
I wish people would stop reaching to make comparisons that aren't there. Claudio and Geddy both sing very high. The comparisons end about there. The fact that he plays a Geddy Lee signature bass is a coincidence not an indirect comparison.

I think it's funny that everyone in these vid comments is like "OMG COHEED IS NOT INFLUENCED BY RUSH AT ALL WTF RUSH SUX"... when Mic is playing a Geddy Lee signature Jazz Bass. Food for thought.
Also Teen Town never sounded creepier. Pure awesome.
Jacklolwtf 3 years ago
I just got that same exact bass. Man it is freakin KILLER. Such a good bang for your buck deal of a bass.
modestmus 3 years ago
They're actually not influence by Rush at all. Claudio's stated that in many interviews. He's also said that he had never heard any Rush material at all until 2004.
ScottXC91 3 years ago
actually he had heard some of Rush's work before that he just didnt like it back then, A friend of mine cut out a magazine artical for me with Claudio Sanchez from sometime in 2003 around the time of IKSSE in it he was talking about a band he was in during his teen years and the guy he was in said they were gunna play Rush covers and i remember Claudio's reaction was "Who the fuck is Rush" so that shows he must of never cared in the first place.
Toiyaxe 3 years ago
Well I saw an interview with him and the band, and the interviwer asked Claudio if he was influenced by Rush and if he modeled his singing voice after Geddy Lee's. Claudio told him that nobody in the band was influenced by Rush, and Mic and Josh actually hate them. Claudio said during the time when they were recording IKSSE:3 he had went out and picked up some Rush material and wasn't a fan of it. He said he had heard of the band before that, but he had never heard any of their music.

Mic is amazing. He doesn't get enough credit.
