  • this looks fun haha

  • the simplest way is always best. :)

  • Alot of people could criticize this but when you think about it when the mess hits the fan it is better to know some thing then nothing. Good work

  • Very nice video. I train in the LaCoste-Inosanto style of Kali and in our system attacking/disarmsing the weapon is 3rd priority (with evasion/deflection/displacement first, striking the face second (eye strikes, jaw, anything) then the weapon hand for a disarm. What is your take on this as I see you are going for the weapon first it seems. Just looking for another martial artists insight on what I would consider to be one of the most crucial aspects of self defence. Thank you.

  • my sensei has the opinion that if you are engaged in a confrontation with a knife weilding attacker you should accept to yourself in that splt second that the chances are you are going to get cut, slashed or at worst stabbed. your priority if you cannot run away should be and do not hesitate, control the knife hand, preferably pinning it and attack them with eveything you've got aiming at eyes, throat, testicles. use head, elbows, knees, punches and boots. you must gain control of that knife.

  • too bad it hurts like hell to punch someones hands...

  • @KunaiKnight Probably hurts a lot less than being stabbed or slashed.

  • i was just wondering when u were gonna do more videos on harimau silat, also keep up the good work.

  • Out of all the slang I've heard I have never heard the term "pissin out blood" before

  • MAKE THAT KNIFE YO BITCH

  • with hitting the part of his arm between the elbow and the hand a bit hard , u hit a nerve and then the knife's gunna auto-fall from his hand.

  • also under the arm, between the elbow and shoulder, good spot to aim for to counter a hook, basically numb's their arm

  • There nothing like two full grown men practicing disarming a knife with the sound of children laughing and playing in the background. lol

  • This kid pulled a knife on me at school and I graves his hand and moved it out to the right and just punched the fuck out of his face and it worked just fine

  • Aye, I like that, its good and realistic. The guy is right, control the arm and smash fuck out of the attackers hand and other body parts. Good stuff.

  • if i ever had to defend myself with a knife i would try not to aim for any places that would kill them, just to hurt them a lot

  • Is that a smoke in your hand? If you do smoke it makes u more real!

  • I been attacked by someone with a broom (a long time ago) I just punched him in the jaw ,he dropped it and I pegged it, glad it wasnt a fucking spear!

  • Lol good fun, training. Reminds me of my training with my friends. We'd do it an open field, and we'd up bruising each other with the wooden training knives i practice. Arnis with.

  • I've been shown to use the coat I'm wearing to wrap around one forearm, so you can use it as a sort of shield against the knife while you use your other hand to concentrate on hitting the knife away or punch his face (if the opening is there). What do you think of that kind of defense, I'm sure for any advantage it gives there must be some disadvantage as well. I'm interested in having your take on this one.

  • @mclift12 if you got time for that... maybe..

The coat also acts as protection against slashing!

    Not stabbing but basic slashing..

Look at my most recent video about Sarong VS Knife to see my opinion on this kinda thing..

    Cheers

  • Indiana Jones made a pretty good case in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

If your willing to kill someone, use a fucking gun!!!

The penalties are almost the same, and you always have an ace in the hole when you carry a gun with you.

  • @kjun13 Fun, in countries like USA where guns are allowed, but in most countries people can't carry fire weapons. Also it takes a lot of time to take of the gun out of your pocket (or wherever you bring it with you) and in that time the agressor with the knife can kill you in hundreed of ways.

  • Thank you for sharing with us, sir. That's good training. Knives are a scary thing and training to defend against knives is difficult. Nothing can bring on an adrenaline dump like a vicious knife attack. Once the heart rate goes above 140 bpm, most people lose all fine motor skills. I feel that one of the most difficult type of knife attacks is the "sewing machine", where the knife wielder does a machine gun attack of straight thrusts as quickly as possible to the center line of the body.

  • fucking beast vids :D

  • great vids man!

  • all you guys are talking what to to do if this happens and this happens then pay the man to show you i would (but then again it sounds like your all trying to be smart asses) and some of you talk about using another weapon on the knife what if you got them and like luke said dont be the fuckin pussy bitch victim be the mr big kuhoonas predator Mr. Luke Holloway you need to start making DVDs if you already have im buying

  • @demigod7575 you need to check out my sites.. I got 14 volumes...

  • u a marine or somthing ?

  • cool

  • This is why I prefer blunt weapons over knives. They have a longer striking range and you cant get in close enough to disarm them if theyre swinging fast enough. Unless the person with the knife is skilled at throwing them.

  • How about attack the man not the weapon. Sure you should block it than attack him hard. If you hurt him badly enough it won't matter if he has a blade. He might stab you, but when you're killing him it won't matter as much. Hit with hate.

  • This does make a lot more since then trying to do some fancy move that probably won't work. Then you end up dead on the side of a road.

  • keep in mind they were both wearing gloves other wise those hand smashes would have been fare more painful

He makes a point about a small blade being just as dangerous and maybe more since you may think they are only punching at you

Me I find an elbow smash to my shoulder is a wonderful disarm but I of course in sparring Iam careful on my training partners with that one

I also find good foot work and conscience deep breathing and stress management is important against knife attackers

  • you're right. the guy with the knife is going to be really aggressive because he knows he is better armed. also anyone who knows how to use a knife will not hold it out in front. you wont see the knife until you're cut. :-/

  • @ninja5672 "Knows how to use a knife" theres no correct way. i mean no offence but the "incorrect" way of using a knife is used every day to great effect. and if they hold it in front of you, no doubt they are using it as a tool of intimidation. the likely time your "not going to see the knife until cut" is in a premeditated murder attempt, much less likely than a crime of passion or armed robbery or assult. Again no offence intended, but i have had a knife held to me similar to 0:45

  • "Smash that fucking knife out of his hand"xD

  • i think this vid is pretty good. This is similar to how I teach my students knife defense. Using traps, and rapid punches to pin off and slug the attacker. Block, lock, destroy! Nice vid Sifu Luke

  • Disarms DO work. They teach them in military and law enforcement. I sometimes wonder why no one ever makes a tutorial where the person takes off ttheir jacket , belt, or pics up an improvised weapon to combat the knofe. ONce in my school we were practicing defenses and this ONE brown belt took off his belt and started using that to counter. EVERYONE saw the practicality in this and applauded.

  • @TheSubwaysurfer There's a Bas Rutten video on YT where he talks about improvised weaponry in a bar room.

  • nice! we do a lot of knife disarms in my ju jitsu club, it's only when we actually try to repeatedly stab and slash each other that i realised how hard traditional knife disarms are to pull off. love the technique

  • I would love to see a reversal/disarm for a reverse grip. seems like that one is the hardest to beat.

  • knife disarms are dangerous stuff, but youre doing fine! i like the simplicity of your "technique" :-)

  • I don´t doubt your skills Luke, I have watched several of your videos and they look good. But in this case (as you said in this video) a person with a knife would probably be more aggressive. In this video it rather feels like you are the attacker.

  • fucken oath, Luke! sory i doubted ya mate, missed it at gold coast last year but maybe yet. all the best

  • Just an opinion @ denisbetsi. Regardless what type of martial arts you take as well as your skill level, you better be prepared to take a few or many hits.

  • When you grab his arm and begin smashing, what stops the attacker from turning the knife towards your smacking and cut you open? Also in this video the opponent is covering his face and is obviously scared of the attack. What do you do with the second hand if the opponent decides to punch you in the face while you're pre-occupied with knocking the knife out of his hand?

  • I've said this at seminars and I'll say it now.. Are you scared of being hit? Are you afraid you wont get back up? I will gladly take his (attackers) best shot and bounce his head up and down the street! Its a decision I made from the begining (in all situations I have been in), regardless of what happens I will be the one walking a way from this!

  • Of course, I'm just wondering. The first thing to do is to make a decision to fight and once your passed that decision you go on kicking some arse. But if you're fighting a competent opponent they will take the opportunity to deliver a proper punch right into your chin quickly and with power dislodging your brain even for a moment, enough to experience a sudden black out even if it lasts few moments, it's enough to get stabbed.

  • @denisbetsi thats the idea mate,

im not gonna sit there and be the victim, Im the fuckin' preditor, survival mode has kicked in!... I think next I will use someone-else for a demo just to satisfy yous..

  • @TeamWuJin

the aussie guy whould have just smirked and said, ''thats not a knife. this is a knife'

  • that is the key to any fighter no matter what art yu practice....

  • @denisbetsi itll be better than getting stabbed.. the idea is to not die, and become the victim, sure, u may get knocked out, but if ur knocked out, ur attacker isnt likely to continue stabbing u.. unless ofcourse, it is ur time to die! then, u will die no matter what...

  • @denisbetsi umm whats stops it best is if you grab him at the wrist. Gives him no option to move his knife toward you

  • @denisbetsi i aint no expert or watever but when your in a fight an the opponent has a knife be ready to get cut but do watever you can not to die, 2nd wats better beign punched in the face or possibly beign cut do death? and if you do this in full speed he wouldent have the time to start hitting you

  • @denisbetsi Why are you watching 6 minute videos in hope of understanding every possible situation that could happen in a knife fight??? Go take a course in person, learning off of a fuckin computer screen will give you false confidence and get you killed

  • @denisbetsi not a knife defense i would particularly use.. but a punch in the face won't kill you, a knife will. Getting that knife away or in your possession is top priority.

  • @denisbetsi before performing that it looks like you should go for a cupped palm to the ear in order to stun him

  • @denisbetsi STFU already. Jeez. Look, any man can teach you 1-1,000,000 techniques, but those techniques are worthless without good instincts. You can try this and fail and die cause you don't have shit worth of a proper instinct, some other guy can pull it off no problem cause he had that sense to know it was gonna work. Fighting is about techniques AND instincts. Anyone can say "What if this happens?" like a smart ass.It takes the fighter to know what DIFFERENT technique to use what it comes.

  • at a range like that, could you kick to the groin as a softner?

  • If I have control of him yes but as a rule I TRY not to wrap them up nor compensate my balance when the other guy has the knife coming in hard and aggresively. If I*ve taken the knife I will likely nut stomp him for daring in the first place ;-) Choice is yours mate, no right or wrong (way) in reality, just a more effective way ;-)

  • so would you only wrap them up if your objective was specifically for their knife to end up in your control?

  • not neccesarily because I have ended up in the clinch sometimes not meaning to but I have a habit of moviong in for the kill and sometimes my opponent does too.. Sometimes I*ve read it and slugged it out before that (which I prefer). If the objective is to control them try and get rid of the knife first.. 80% of the *controls* I see require the opponent to be compliant...

  • so basically, defend the initial attack by evading and blocking and then subdue the person with strikes.

  • Hi Luke, I am no expert, and I have a question. When watching this video I was wondering why the attacker was not using is other arm when you caught the one holding the knife?

Wouldn't you advise to hit the face or groin before trying to disarm to give yourself some time?

    Thanks anyway for the vid.

  • Luke had to go easy on them cause the dudes not opened up yet thats why it looks sloppy otherwise he would of went hardcore on the dude.

  • Dude, you teach it raw man.. I love the head stomps. They are bad!

  • Awesome video! I am intrested in your EP and Security training

  • It looks sloppy - but that's reality. The biggest mistake I keep seeing in what is often called 'realistic knife defense' is reliance on lots of over complex moves. They look great in training and in movies, but in application, under stress and adrenaline they fail immediately.

Nice work as ever. Love the vids!

  • Love watching these videos Luke. You know alot and your demonstrations are practical and entertaining.

  • I feel sorry for that dude lol. great video.

  • A good one, Luke!!

  • great vid u guys are aweseome

  • i think "slap" would be better then "punch".

  • yeah sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.. I*ve found the punch wears out their grip easier & faster.. Maybe you should try it ;-)
