Different times Sober.Being a 4 year old in 1970 one of the first smells I ever recognized was pot and I remember very nice mellow times then,my brothers and sister were far older than I.To me then it was normal.Still is'nt in my mind much of a big deal though I do not consume it.I have very nice memories of those times and the music to this day 40 years later is awe inspiring and I will never forget it.What we have now is a jumble of garbage basically that has been torn apart by greed.
Duane died at what? 24?! Jimmy H and Stevie V got to live well past that. What I mean to say is, Duane got shafted the worst! Granted, he did it to himself with his choice of lifestyle, but I think such a young death goes to show that with the quantity and quality he produced by that age, he would have made a cosmic impact on the world had he lived a few more years.
@SoberAllmanBrosFan Are you sober? Really? Duane was killed in bike versus peach truck accident. How is that "[doing] it to himself with his choice of lifestyle"?
@rrr1063 i I ONLY READ THE BOOKS! i love the man's music. i'm obsessed! but let's face it-he was a drunk and a druggy! as bad as they come! have you ever read about his drug n alc use? given the facts of his lifestyle, he probably was rarely if ever aware of other vehicles while driving. that day, he may have had a BAC of 0, but i doubt they tested for lsd, psilocybin, ect! i was the same way! 2 dwi @ 18yrs-old. i had many collisions while intoxicated. im lucky to be alive! wake up!
@rrr1063 It was a lumber truck, but yeah...the truck driver was found to be 100% at fault. He made a left turn in front of Duane's Harley as he was about to enter the intersection, and then when Duane aimed around him he saw a pot hole and stopped, dooming Duane Allman, who might have glanced off the back of the truck- unknown for sure- but was airborne. Cycle landed on his chest, Nothing to do with drugs that day, just fate.
I briefly lived on that street- Hillcrest- while I was in college.
what have i been missing.had the duane anthology and two abb on vynel..let my buddy have them in 73//he moved to la..just bought the filmore east cd..wow. i have 5000 cds.i cant think of any one to surpass allmans passion and musicianship...if i could only ever play one its this.
It was available mail order from the director .. back then .. VHs. this is only half of it by the way. It may be worth a search or two to see what you can turn up. :)
If I could have a wish to have any great musician back it'd be Duane. I'm only 24 so it shows how big of an impact he and the rest of the allman bros had on me
dang, greg sounds soo good, in this classic concert.. he is old now, and his singing voice is kinda raspy now....but this is classic bro's........post more...
Well Natasha's head injury was from a skiing accident and Berry's was from a motorcycle accident just a couple of blocks away from Duane's accident. R.I.P.
I love being alive and I will be the best man I possibly can. I will take love wherever I find it and offer it to whoever will take it...seek knowledge from those wiser and teach those who wish to learn from me. daune allman saludos desde argetina
that concert footage is from the july 3-5 1970 Atlanta Pop Festival show, hendrix played on that same stage, and B.B King and all those guys. their second set got canceled by the rain halfway through mountain Jam. the show was 15 miles from the allman brothers bands house. The Big House
They did before. Its in a Eric Clapton Bio. Hendrix came to a Layla rehearsal and the 3 of them jammed... They said they didnt play much.. just talked a lot about music and recording techniques. This happened in London
Nothing ironic about the Confederate Flag & the ABB. Ive seen many videos & pics with the 2 together. They most certainly weren't ashamed of the flag. Its a southern thing, you wouldn't understand.
they actually didnt support the flag to be honest.they knew what it represented and didnt approved, they knew it was a thing of the past.haynes actually talks about it in an interview how back then the ABB didnt even like the term southern rock because gregg would say thats the same as saying Rock Rock, it all came from the same style of music,The Blues. ramblin man was actually written when duane was alive, rough sketches of that song were being played by dickey in the idlewild south outtakes.
Warren Haynes is not worth mentioning, he was a sorry fill-in for the band. Well, not like it's his fault, really..I mean, Duane's boots are pretty much impossible to fill.
I think..that every time an Allman fan is in Georgia, they should Eat a Peach for Duane, and for peace.
warren haynes is pretty fucking good like it or not. warren haynes and derek trucks on guitar for the abb is not duane and dickey but its the next best thing. they are the perfect fit.
Sctotidave since Greg got the transplant he sound fantastic just like when Duanne was alive relayed to Greg he is a new man

When Gregg says, "Hell of a dude, you had to know him," you could just feel the longing for his big brother. It breaks my heart.

I think both Berry and Natasha Richardson died of epidural hematomas. The accidents were different, but the medical injury was the same.

This week Natasha Richardson died of, I believe, the same fate that befell Berry. Anyone agree? Such a waste of talent on a stupid accident.
