Eventually when I get into riding more, and hopefully racing, I might consider a ZX-10R, but for now I'm going to just enjoy the insane insurance for adding a bike, and riding a Ninja 250R. Good enough for me. I'm 17.
these are essencially race bikes. thats why they tach to 13+ not so u can ride them at 4000 rpm. most people ride round 6-7k for cruising and 10-12 for racing.
anyone can start on a high end bike. just a matter of how you ride. I did. didnt make me any better i just knew what I wanted. learned on a zx10. I wouldnt recommend it but they are pretty tame if your just putting around while learning.
Does not make me an amazing rider but I did have dirt experience... which helped. I would say a 250-500 for beginners.
this guy's been riding vacuum cleaners... right. lacks bottom end, if someone buys one of these bikes to mess around in the bottom end they should reconsider the bikes theyre looking at and get a goldwing or something
Dont listen to what motousa say anyways, they havent even been to Isle Of Man so cant know what these bikes are made for.If you wanna cruise at low end as he says, buy your self a toilet pump chopper i say to him, if you wanna go road racing buy your self a 1000 SS and i never heard of a motorcycle race with guys running their machines at 3000 rpm.
did he really say "feels like riding a vacuum cleaner" because i would like to know where to buy one of those vacuums. I would sell my bike and use that all the time! sure to get looks right? haha
If you guys (starters) want to get it - don't. Go to a motorcycle school and learn how to use a 600cc first. Once you say to yourself: "ok, i used this bike to the limit, i can corner fast, i can control the traction, the braking and i feel confortable doing that" then go to a beast bike like the ZX. Keep in mind that a 600cc accelerates quite fast. However, a litre bike is insane and everything you learnt with the 600cc, you need to improve many and many times more.
Thanks for that. I figured this bike was and is overkill for myself, so when I am going to start driving a motorcycle, it's going to be a very humble machine. :)
Any suggestions, tips or recommendations for beginners? Perhaps you could recommend me a bike?
Bike choice is really personal. Consider it's value, insurance, reliability, handling, engine quality etc...
I started on 2 wheels when i was 6, on something called "walk-machine" LOL, then i got a 50cc dirt bike, then a 100cc from honda, called 'BIZ'. Now with 18, i own a honda hornet 2008, i do track days, and turned into a amateur pilot. Of course i'd love to have a liter bike, but the insurance is killer. But, even with a 600cc naked, i take out many liter bikes on corners..
Get a 1000. I bought a suzuki 500f, traded it in 3 weeks later for an SV1000, and 6 months later Im getting an 09 R1. Ive lost money trading these bikes in. Remember, the bike only goes as fast as you twist the throttle.
"the bike only goes as fast as you twist the throttle" - thats what I always say! Amen... my first street bike was a 2007 R1 and I just traded it for a 2008 ZX10R
Yep. I started riding on a moped, 50cc! I now have two 200cc, budget enduro bikes. I'm always red-lining both of them in every gear on the street and off road :) I think I'm just barely ready for a 600 now, after about two and a half years, 20 thousand miles of riding, and more than one lesson learned the hard way. The only thing holding me back is cash. Anyone who hops on a smaller bike, and thinks they can really use a 1000 a couple months later, well, Darwin would have something to say here!
The problem is, I fucking hate scooters. It's associated with a subculture here in The Netherlands that I dislike very much, and I can't be fucked to get a scooter.
I'm 17 and when I turn 18 I'll get my driving license for the bike. No way that I'm going to buy a scooter to use for a year.
Ah, I see that someone has given my comment a thumb down. Haha, this just goes to show how insecure most guys are. You think that trying to get yourself killed starting out on a superbike makes you a bigger man. The truth is, it only makes you a total idiot, so desperate to improve your image, that you are way beyond rational thought. It is sad. It is truly sad.
wow, so did you read that or just make that up, 171 with a slip on rwhp. Oh yeah, since this bike came out the busa sucks now, well it always did, its a fast bike for guys who dont know how to go fast on a 1k which = lame riders on busas.
Agreed. Also, it kinda suffers to pass a 08 ZX-10 and 08 R1 until 140mph... They're much lighter and agressive. People always say: "busa is busa"
I reply: take it to the track and lets see how far it can be from me LOL. I know everybody has their own preferences, but if you want cornering to the limit, stay out from hayabusa. I'm talking about racetracks. The bike is confortable and excelent to travel, but i personally rate a bike by it's cornering support.(suspensions, weight, agility, feeling)
everytime i feel like buying a car, i look at vids like this, brings me back to the superbike feeling over and over again, nothing beats the adrealine of starting a superbike and accelerating like crazy.. :)

I bought this bike friday evening. I had a 2005 just like it, which was a whole lot more uncontrollable than this bike. I will say this, I am still in the break in and haven't been above 6000 rpm and it feels much faster than the 05. You said it like it is hghtrebor. I've been riding for two years and I still have some doubts as to whether or not I could limit myself to a safe level on this machine. It would be tough. Always knowing that if you REALLY wanted to you COULD launch just a little bit faster from that stoplight...I think that would be my biggest problem. I've been down enough to be able to control my speed and keep it safe in the corners and not do stupid shit like swerving back and forth vilently 4 no reason lol.
Hey, Is everything better on the 08 model compared to ur last 05 one? still nimble? any info would help, cause im not sure yet about what im gonna buy, i'm still deciding between this one and the 08 1000rr... thnx
Hey enfermo, I had a chance to get past the break in now. The bike is as nimble as a 600. The manners of this bike will make you a more confident rider, but it is a BEAST when you want it to be. THE ONLY bad remark I have is this, the exhaust is quite and ugly and because of the valve kawasaki puts on the zx10 exhaust it makes the bike feel like it has an engine brake from back pressure. Some may love that, some may hate it. I think it makes the throttle too sensitive when you are leaned.
One more things...While I find this both sad, and a good thing.. Its not the wheelie bike the 05 was. Boatload of mid range power though..Hope that all helps..
thnx bro... ur description was very usefull and i'm gonna trust your criteria. I just ordered the zx and with it a racefit growler exhaust =)...cant wait to ride it. Thnx again
yes ur right if ur clueless completely noway i agree, its always jumping from cc to cc, if u ride a 125 go to a 600 if u wish but u gota be careful, ok these new litre bikes for 08 and o7 even will kill defenately, caution is whats best
yeah u can ride this for a starter bike, just dnt get tempted to open the taps even a little bit, not until experience is gained. if u do u might aswell jump of a cliff or try and stop a moving train, prety much the same result in all cases, had a friend who fell for that one only it was a gsxr
I agree that would be suicide. Kids just out of high school get themselves killed or seriously injured on 600's all the time...to start on a 1000 is pointless because without experience you really can't ever touch the throttle. Hell even just, say, having the throttle open 1/4 turn and accidentally dropping the clutch could really fuck you up on this thing...
why are you getting a 650 in hopes of getting a 1000? if your smart enough and ride safely , starting on a 1000 should be your best bet. dont go with this bike though. i would suggest a honda or a yamaha due to their handling. yes this is a badass bike , the black stalion if you would. but unless your being stupid and racing it all the time , that extra couple horsepower shouldnt mean anything to you. you want a bike you can feel.
Please don't listen to this guy. After the 650 get a 600. Smaller engine, but a hell of a lot faster and the seating position is totally different. You'll have to learn to control it crouched over the tank
I gotta agree, this video sucks. More real world information please! Not just cliches like "it's better than last year" why can't some numbers be thrown down, like maybe quarter mile times or Willow Springs lap times that we can compare to previous hardware numbers. Or perhaps that would effect the sales... Yea this bike is way too big for beginners, the 2008 Kawasaki 250R can get around our local race track at 1:45 compared to the ZX10R doing 1:15 so I think that's a great starter for racers.
This is 1000cc and as a veteran rider it's fun but less than 3 years experience it is difficult to control at best. The "interview sucks..the guy spent 10 seconds thinking about what to say. Put real information in there PLEASE!! And can someone tell me WHY doesn't anyone do a full comparison AFTER suspension and a slip on perhaps a PCIII? That's what EVERYONE is doing anyways...SO TUNE THE Bikes..Which one cleans up best?
Here is the real deal most of the reviews on this bike over here are very limited and vague. If you want to know how this bike really is check the european reviews they are more indeoth and discriptive. One I read said they couldnt believe how the bike pulled to over 140 miles an hour with him sitting straight up with such ease. That he could not tuck over the tank due to his camera equipment being in the way.
By the looks of the bike it seems like i am tall enough to have my feet on where you place your feet. But i dont think i can touch the ground without leaning extremly much.
I have a friend who is 5'2 and rides and R1. It can be done, it will just be difficult and very hard to learn without dropping the bike.
To put it another way, you are not going to be able to touch the ground with your foot without leaning the bike over or hopping off (my friend hops off). That's going to be a problem when you're on hills or slippery surfaces.
One of my best friends got his license 2 weeks ago and bought this bike (he was 18) and he thought he could handle all the power. Yeasterday he went out on it and went on straight stretch near his house with one slight corner and he lost control and broke his neck once he landed in the ditch. He was inexperienced at riding and got too big of a bike. Never start out on litter bikes
I started off on a Suzuki DR650, then the folowing year i got a Kawasaki Ninja 650R which i still haev (2nd year) and i love it to death,I've also diven a BMW R1100RS
ill be getting either a BMW R1200S or a 1000cc Supersport next summer
These bikes have so much power that you could find yourself doing an uncontrolled wheelie at 120 miles per hour and end up as roadkill. You really need the experience of riding smaller bikes before tackling these beasts. Find yourself a good 600cc or smaller bike first, especially since your are still a teenager (I vaguely remember those years). I don't know you at all, but if you think that you are bulletproof, all you would have to do is hit the asphalt at 100 miles to change your mind.
Umm...you realize you can't test ride sportbikes right? Unless you're buying from an actual owner (which i would NEVER allow someone to ride a bike i was selling) dealerships will never let you ride. Ask and find out kid.
I don't know how it is where you live. But here in Sweden you can test tide cars and bikes from a store. And when your taking you driving/motorcykle license your also test driving.
I suppose Sweden is alot more lax than here in USA. USA you can test drive cars and some motorcycles but there is no way they would let you test drive a sport bike. Insurance reasons.
I must say, Iv never really liked Kawi.. but this year, styling wise they whupped ass... dont like the headlights to much, but all around the bike is hot
I'm sorry...but any idiot can ride a bike, sit there and say "The power is good, the ergos are, the handling was good, it has lots of top end and mid range power. They did a good job on this bike"
Lacks bottom end. All kawasakis have had that . Its the sudden snap of that infamous power band at just over 3k rpm that makes you nut up and hold on. Whos this idiot kidding. Always down playing a kawi because its not the garage queen they like to ride.
The first guy in the chair is so busy trying to look cool that he can't think of anything new to say, Every video review he says, "much improved over the previous year, for sure" and this time he added,"the brakes are good". wtf motousa, find someone more professional plz.
dude you are so right, the same is with the guy in the red shirt: "it lacks in the bottom end", accordign to himm all the bikes lack in the bottom end.
once again alot of comments concerning the over use of music in your videos. Tone down the music, let us hear the bike go through its paces. Good reviews, just tweak them like the 08 kawai was.
Eventually when I get into riding more, and hopefully racing, I might consider a ZX-10R, but for now I'm going to just enjoy the insane insurance for adding a bike, and riding a Ninja 250R. Good enough for me. I'm 17.

Kids just out of high school get themselves killed or seriously injured on 600's all the time...to start on a 1000 is pointless because without experience you really can't ever touch the throttle. Hell even just, say, having the throttle open 1/4 turn and accidentally dropping the clutch could really fuck you up on this thing...

im gonna get a ninja 650 4 my fist bike, but should i get this afterwords or get a gsxr 1000?
cut227 3 years ago
why are you getting a 650 in hopes of getting a 1000? if your smart enough and ride safely , starting on a 1000 should be your best bet. dont go with this bike though. i would suggest a honda or a yamaha due to their handling. yes this is a badass bike , the black stalion if you would. but unless your being stupid and racing it all the time , that extra couple horsepower shouldnt mean anything to you. you want a bike you can feel.
Orion16x 3 years ago
Please don't listen to this guy. After the 650 get a 600. Smaller engine, but a hell of a lot faster and the seating position is totally different. You'll have to learn to control it crouched over the tank

I gotta agree, this video sucks. More real world information please! Not just cliches like "it's better than last year" why can't some numbers be thrown down, like maybe quarter mile times or Willow Springs lap times that we can compare to previous hardware numbers. Or perhaps that would effect the sales... Yea this bike is way too big for beginners, the 2008 Kawasaki 250R can get around our local race track at 1:45 compared to the ZX10R doing 1:15 so I think that's a great starter for racers.
mnbvczxc 3 years ago
This is 1000cc and as a veteran rider it's fun but less than 3 years experience it is difficult to control at best. The "interview sucks..the guy spent 10 seconds thinking about what to say. Put real information in there PLEASE!! And can someone tell me WHY doesn't anyone do a full comparison AFTER suspension and a slip on perhaps a PCIII? That's what EVERYONE is doing anyways...SO TUNE THE Bikes..Which one cleans up best?
kwaky2005 3 years ago
Why would you need that much power? Thats like 900cc.

Here is the real deal most of the reviews on this bike over here are very limited and vague. If you want to know how this bike really is check the european reviews they are more indeoth and discriptive. One I read said they couldnt believe how the bike pulled to over 140 miles an hour with him sitting straight up with such ease. That he could not tuck over the tank due to his camera equipment being in the way.
vicariousfangs 3 years ago
That isn't "in depth," that's useless information. What idiot wants to do 140mph without tucking on a track?
aluisious 3 years ago
so If i want to know how this bike rides, im going to go hop on my Oreck XL vacuum..ill let you know how she went...

I am 5"4' ft tall and I might not grow anymore.
I wonder, can I ride this bike at that size?
Sokan1993 3 years ago
the seat of the bike is at around 33 inches.. so measure and find out..
Atoweha 3 years ago
By the looks of the bike it seems like i am tall enough to have my feet on where you place your feet. But i dont think i can touch the ground without leaning extremly much.
Sokan1993 3 years ago
did u measure? Go to a dealer and try one out.. thats what I did..
Atoweha 3 years ago
I haven't measured yet. I will soon tho.
Sokan1993 3 years ago
I have a friend who is 5'2 and rides and R1. It can be done, it will just be difficult and very hard to learn without dropping the bike.
To put it another way, you are not going to be able to touch the ground with your foot without leaning the bike over or hopping off (my friend hops off). That's going to be a problem when you're on hills or slippery surfaces.
aluisious 3 years ago
Ok. Thanks for the info.
Sokan1993 3 years ago
if you never ridden a bike before this is not the starter bike for you
jaymacc7707 3 years ago
Why's that?
But of course, I'm only 15 atm :D
When I get my MC license I'll problably ride a bike there.
Sokan1993 3 years ago
One of my best friends got his license 2 weeks ago and bought this bike (he was 18) and he thought he could handle all the power. Yeasterday he went out on it and went on straight stretch near his house with one slight corner and he lost control and broke his neck once he landed in the ditch. He was inexperienced at riding and got too big of a bike. Never start out on litter bikes
florian808 3 years ago
Ok thats not good.
But when you get your license you always test rides bikes.
But maybe I should buy a another bike first and get used to it before i get this one.
Sokan1993 3 years ago
I started off on a Suzuki DR650, then the folowing year i got a Kawasaki Ninja 650R which i still haev (2nd year) and i love it to death,I've also diven a BMW R1100RS
ill be getting either a BMW R1200S or a 1000cc Supersport next summer
florian808 3 years ago
its superbike not supersport....if your talkin about a 1000cc
jaymacc7707 3 years ago
These bikes have so much power that you could find yourself doing an uncontrolled wheelie at 120 miles per hour and end up as roadkill. You really need the experience of riding smaller bikes before tackling these beasts. Find yourself a good 600cc or smaller bike first, especially since your are still a teenager (I vaguely remember those years). I don't know you at all, but if you think that you are bulletproof, all you would have to do is hit the asphalt at 100 miles to change your mind.
Jesusisyhwh 3 years ago
Umm...you realize you can't test ride sportbikes right? Unless you're buying from an actual owner (which i would NEVER allow someone to ride a bike i was selling) dealerships will never let you ride. Ask and find out kid.
Dannyj9924 3 years ago
I don't know how it is where you live. But here in Sweden you can test tide cars and bikes from a store. And when your taking you driving/motorcykle license your also test driving.
Sokan1993 3 years ago
I suppose Sweden is alot more lax than here in USA. USA you can test drive cars and some motorcycles but there is no way they would let you test drive a sport bike. Insurance reasons.
Dannyj9924 3 years ago
I just test rode the 08 zx10r from a dealership.. Told 'em I wouldn't purchase one from them unless I could ride it first.

I'm sorry...but any idiot can ride a bike, sit there and say "The power is good, the ergos are, the handling was good, it has lots of top end and mid range power. They did a good job on this bike"
AcadiaGuitar 3 years ago
Feels like riding a vacuum cleaner. HUH what the hell does that mean. Real men ride Kawasaki.. How my tail lights look?
vicariousfangs 3 years ago
it means the power curve has a very smooth, linear feel to it, no spikes, no jarring, tiring power hits, just smooth eletric type power.
RustyCyler 3 years ago
Lacks bottom end. All kawasakis have had that . Its the sudden snap of that infamous power band at just over 3k rpm that makes you nut up and hold on. Whos this idiot kidding. Always down playing a kawi because its not the garage queen they like to ride.
