I'm almost 100 % my daughter has it. We still have to do the sleep studies. 2years ago she slept 80% of her time in school, they said she was depressed. She has learned how to cope a bit, she took up basketball, and lost 50 lbs because she has to keep active or she'll fall asleep.
I have a close friend recently diagnosed, we convinced him to get the ball rolling with respect to getting diagnosed. At first we didn't know what was wrong with him, but with the diagnosis, tools as well as understanding set in and knowing these things has helped him a lot. I know how some can see episodes as a source of humor, but for the suferer, it's anything but.
I thought I'd seen a longer version of this video somewhere.
I like how this guy pronounces "narcolepsy". Most folks just hit like "nehrk'lepsi", but Isaiah's got that wicked deep professorial black american drawl and it's like "nahcohlehpsy". It's hot.

we looked at narcolepsy in Psychology...it was hilarious...in any narcoleptic meeting they all have to take the minutes cos they will all drop off at random moments and therefore no ONE person can be left to take notes otherwise there'll be huge gaps when they knock off!!
You know...as a narcoleptic, even before I was on medication, I never had gaps in my notes. Please don't be so rude about a serious medical condition that you obviously know nothing about.
Define Safe and reliable? There's a few treatments that help. For mild sufferers like myself no medication is something like trying to get through another day after staying awake 2 or 3 days in a row. Current treatments include stimulants and some supressors for the chemicals that make people sleepy. Depending on severity, disability is an option. For me I work part time, and I could work full time, but my stepfather is very ill so I must care for him as well.
I have narcolepsy. I think it's quiet ignorant you and may others to think people with narcolepsy just fall over. Narcolpesy is not the same thing as cataplexy. THey usually go hand in hand but the people with cataplexy fall over not the people with narcolepesy.
can you drive my daughter hasn't been dx'd yet, but I'm sure she has it. also do you sleep walk ? my daughter has had 2 episodes of sleepwalking, she is going to be 15 and wanting to drive soon
