This sux...but..considering the time period and what game companies had to work with..i guess not so bad...i would've played it back then...played the arcade version a lot.
I've been going through a number of these old school Atari videos this evening. I never knew anyone who had one of these systems, so it's better late than never. Impressed in what I've seen so far.
I remember this one. Want this for so many years on my 2600. I used to lend games off a friend in the early 80's and I was never off this for a fortnight! Got it on ebay finally. Not very good at it yet though
Sound and music aside, I think that the Atari 2600 version of this game looks better, and from watching the video, I think the 2600 version plays better too.
Not in real life :-) The XL version's graphics are much nicer, as always. Gameplay is pretty much the same, you even use the same controllers and all. Nonetheless, it was a pretty nice game on the 2600, considering that console's technical limitations.
i don't know the chronology of atari consoles, but i had an 800xl which was an atari system in a keyboard. it could do basic programming stuff as well, and you could hook up tape drives and some other external devices. the cartridges were quite small in comparison with other atari versions.
Yea, I still have that computer, it's awesome, the Atari XL and XE series, technically quite superior to it's competition, which was mainly the cheap junk from Commodore. Colours and sound are much nicer on the Atari XL than on the heavily overrated Commodore 64. I had a Commodore for a while to check it out, but I had to get rid of it, what a boring machine. Sold it a couple weeks ago. The Atari is really much nicer to work and play with. The Commodore was a cheap and underperforming machine.
Hmmm... The C64 sucked? Not too much of an Atari fanboy, eh? Your comment is ridiculous and transparent. Both machines were great 8-bitters. Spare us your hate.
Actually, he's right. Atari XL/XE was better than C64. The problem with C64 (something few people remember) is that there was a chip inside them that wore away and caused havoc. I was just a teenager back then, but yeah... Commodore and Atari was a similar war like Mac versus PC is today.
ioport, you better back up. I do know what I'm talking about. I was there when it happened. I'm 38. There was a chip in the Commodore 64 that had problems. Google it. PLA chip in C64. Before you go saying people don't know what they're talking about, maybe you should check out things beforehand? Plus, throwing the 'F' word in there made you look even more despicable.
It may have not been the PLA chip, but I was a teenager back then. And, I remember there was a problem with one of C64's chips wearing away. I don't know the exact details, but Atari users made fun of them.
There was a so called 'sparkle' problem which caused small 'lights' to appear on the screen of the first few hundred thousand units. Most thought the problem was caused by defects in the video chip but in fact the problem was voltage spikes caused by a series of 64 systems that adversely affected the ROM chip. That's just another problem they had. Of course, later, they obviously fixed it.
Engineering flaws and supplier problems caused all kinds of issues with the early 64's. One engineer is quote as saying "You pick a switch that is listed as a 'consumer switch'. You design it in. ...Then California [the production division] wants 50,000 a week but the manufacturer says 'We can't make that.... quantity.' "
1st (or even 2nd) runs always have engineering issues. Look at modern hardware even, like the 360, or the first generation PS1. But spare me your biased fanboyism. I owned a C64 back in the day and it lasted years and years. Of course, because I love all old systems you don't hear me saying crap like "the C64 had a way better sound chip--the legendary SID--that buried the shitty Atari 8-bit " or crap like that. Try to be a bit less obvious with your prejudices, sir.
I knew it. You were a Commodore owner. I was an Atari owner. That war is never over. And, Atari computers were much better than Commodores. Atari rules!
I never saw this version, had it on c64.. although the atari one looks more colourful in ways. always used to remind me of park patrol for some reason.

I had this game for the Atari 2600 as well.
I didn't even realize it was available for the Atari home computers. I had an Atari 800XL.

2600/5200 were "consoles". Atari 800/800XL were computers, like Commodore 64.
