What it all comes down to is how much money you have and how much you are willing to spend. I don't mind this car. This was my first time at the track and I'm sure I could dip it into the 15's now... especially by launching better with stickier tires since I have a beefed up trans that can handle it now. This car responds well to turbos... I was going to shoot for either 13's with just a turbo and no mods to the internals or 12's with mods to the internals...
Yes I had it up to 6500 RPM when shifting to the next gear... I should probably take it to around 6800 though... I know rev limiter kicks in at 7200 or 7400. the only thing the zx2's can beat is a honda civic. And not even the SI. What on earth made you think racing a freakin corvette would be a good idea??? Although it gave me a good laugh just reading the title...
@sparbaroku actually the zx2 s/r edition was build to out run the si. and yes it does a good job at doing it. my 2000 zx2 s/r is lightly modified with just an udp, jba headers, and mds coils and wires. and i have beatin a v6 mustangs with cold air intake, srt-4 with headers and intake, and give a stock s2000 a good race. plus they take great to a turbo mod without having to do internals...better to but not needed. just a question for you, have you ever owned a zx2 s/r or ever drove or race one?
@Coolviss86 My first car was a zx2 (not the s/r though) that had a wooping 130 hp. the S/R does a 0-60 in a blazing fast 7.6 seconds which is only 2 tenths of a second faster than the base zx2 which tells me if it was "designed" to beat an SI they failed terribly. And considering you rand a mid-16 in the video I can tell you that you definitely have not beaten any stangs or srt-4's stop lying.
You are right about the turbo though, as long as youre running low boost youd be fine!
@sparbaroku this is not my car. and why you think im lying about my races are above me. but yes the stcok zx2 s/r was designed to beat a stock si. with pros driving, s/r ran 15.1 in the 1/4 and si ran 15.7. now im not to sure if you are thinking that a 2000 ford was designed to better a future si like the 2006 and up. but that would be crazy to think that they would design a car to better 6 years down the road. on the turbo, my buddy has 10 psi and has had it for over 50,000 mi with no internals
@sparbaroku now im not here to hate on any car, because i love it when someone takes an "unpopular" car and makes it out preform anything in his city. it just gets boring when you go to race and its always a honda civic hatchback or fox body mustang. so to the drivers who take there cars to the next level no matter what that car is, i solute you and encourage you to go even higher.dont worry about the haters who will talk sh!# cuz no matter what car your in they will talk there sh!#
@Coolviss86 The 2000 SI has 160hp vs the zx2 130 so yeah FAIL.The guy in this video didnt take his car "to the next level". judging from his time it was stock and he went against a corvette which is why i talked a bit of smack. it bad enough when civic kids talk about how they "almost kept up with a corvette" but when I see a car that is slower than a civic racing a corvette yeah its funny.I give the driver props for not being a ricer but still he is running a mid 16 taking on a vet was foolish.
@sparbaroku you fail what? the fact that the zx2 sr has less hp but has better 1/4 mile times then the si. and again we are talking about the sr edition was build to beat the si edition. the sr was 143 hp and weighed less the the si, also it was a way better track car then the si will ever be. when i said take to the next level, if you read the guy wanted to drop a turbo on it. and about going to a track, most of the time you dont pick who you race, ive go to pick twice out of about 15 times.
@Coolviss86 motortrend has the S/R 1/4 time at 15.8 which is slower than the SI. Not to mention it has 20 less hp and civics are REALLY light cars I doubt its THAT much lighter where it makes a big difference. Also the SI is the slowest car that is considered "fast" but the S/R isnt faster than it. i dont care what you claim or what some guy on the forum told you. Even if it was faster than the SI it still really wouldnt be all that fast when compared to a corvette. Dont get all butt-hurt
@sparbaroku and according to Wikipedia the SI only ran 15.8, so if motor trend says the sr ran 15.8 also but the si had 20 more hp what is that saying? and did you ask if he wanted to race a corvette? i would love to ran a vette on the track, not saying i would win since the guy paid about $60,000 more for his car. but it all about the rush and to say hey i was only 2-3 seconds behind lol. oh ya si weight 2,606 lbs, sr weight 2,478 lbs per Wikipedia. and if anything it sounds like ur "butthurt"
@Coolviss86 Consumer Reports has the 1/4th time for a 2000 civic SI at 15.1 but hey EVERYONE knows wikipedia is SO reliable and precise. Screw the CR guys. and 130 lbs will make a SLIGHT difference but wont make it magically zoom past every SI on the road LOL but you are missing the point. the civic SI is not a badass car. its the slowest car that is still somehow considered fast. The zx2 is slower. Maybe with a good driver it would BARELY keep with with a SI but thats not saying much.
@sparbaroku no but they did not change much on the 1999 models to the 2000. and yes slightly modded goes a long way on that car plus i have stripped the ac out the back sets carbon fiber hood and trunk, and never have a spar tire in the trunk. that cuts a shit load of weight of. and 130 lbs is enough to make a car seem to have an extra 30 hp apparently. and i dont hate on CR. plus i never said my car is badass since my v6 camaro eats it up like crazy.
@Coolviss86 Ok its official youre an idiot. 130 lbs=30hp??? if thats true than 1lb would equal .23 hp. Now suppose you take 3 buddies out for a drive in your car and your average weight is 180lbs. that would be a decrease of 41.4 hp per person. 4 people total would mean a total decrease of 165.6 hp giving the escort -35hp. Furthermore to beat a stang or SRT-4 youd have to majorly beef up the internals or go with forced induction, neither of which is "minor mods".please just shut up dude.
@sparbaroku i was just wondering, why are you backing up an si? and why you assume you know my car better then i do? now sorry if you thought your zx2 was a pile compared to a fucking corvette, but when you owned it did you ever race with it? i will do what you do best and assume that you never did and that you probably used it as a day driver. and the mustang stock per motor trend only ran 16.8 so to say i cant beat one is laughable. so before you assume anything else stop.
@Coolviss86 (1/2)the fact that you took out ac, back seats and put a carbon fiber hood and trunk, never have a spare tire and think that gives you a huge boost tells me you know nothing about cars and follow idiot ricer logic I just disproved your theory on weight reduction. It gives SLIGHT improvements not worth the tradeoff IMO. I use the SI as an example cause its the slowest car I can think of that is still somehow considered fast and the S/R is NOT faster than it.
@sparbaroku why would you think that making a car hundreds of pounds lighter not make any difference? so your saying if that is so then i should be able to crush any motorcycle out there since it has less power. now to me your theory on lighter doesnt do anything just seems kinda wrong. the last time i weight my car it was 2153 lbs which is an average amount of weight loss since some guys have taken it down to around 2000 lbs. hell my track time is 14.83@96.8 its ok, but i want to turbo
@Coolviss86 hundreds plural? im saying that when you have 2000+ pound cars one of them being 120 lbs lighter is not going to make up THAT much power. Will it make a difference? yes but a SLIGHT one if you look at my previous comments i never said it didnt make any difference,i was very clear it made a SMALL difference. Certainly not 30 hp as you said. now when you compare a 2000+lb car with a 700lb bike of course thats going to be different. Stop being silly.
@Coolviss86 (2/2) at the VERY best it can barely keep up with it. And thats with a slow car. i never took my zx2 to the track but i my buddy would fly past me in his cavalier on the highway no matter how hard i floored it it couldnt keep up. Im not going to brag about what i upgraded to but all i know is that escorts and cavaliers are not fast cars. both can be beaten by an SI which I consider a slow car. Even if they could keep up with an SI thats not saying much at all so why argue so hard??
@sparbaroku so motortrend says 15.8 but consumer reports says 15.1? thats an odd jump. i wonder which is really reliable? well if so then they should at least be some what of a challenge when racing.... but there not at all. im done
@Coolviss86 What are you talking about? you have zero reading comprehension skills. Motortrend has the 1/4 time for the S/R at 15.8 they dont have a time for the 2000 SI so rather than turn to wikipedia (which is NOT a reliable source) I referred to consumer reports which is known for accurate information. And yeah i hope youre done spreading your lies and mis-information. Anyone who claims their escort beats mustangs, SRT-4s and keeps up with s-2000 with "slight" mods is an obvious liar.
@sparbaroku hence the word SEEM, it is not a literal measurement but it was enough. cudos on taking the time in trying to figure it out but that wouldnt work on every car since there is aerodynamics, cylinder size, power to weight ratio to add into that equation. this really must be baffling your mind or something, maybe the srt4 had shitty timing or low compression due to racing every weekend. and i have no idea what octane he used, maybe shitty 85. but all that is his fault for losing not mine
@Coolviss86 Stop trying to seem smart man. you said on a S/R it would make it seem like 30 hp. if that was true than on an SR with passenger it would seem like -35. i never mentioned other cars just quit while youre ahead dude.
@sparbaroku what? you mentioned the mustang and srt 4 a bunch. and why would you race with an additional person? i dont think you can at the track, but i never have asked them. and ya when i load it with about 100 lbs of groceries i can feel all that drag, but i will say tho that with it being lighter it is a way rougher ride. im just glad i can say i have a 1 in 2000 car ;) hey dude what do you drive around if you dont mind me asking.
@Coolviss86 i mentioned other cars yes but not in my post about weight reduction... And im saying if that were true than if you ever drove around friends (like on the road) it would feel like -35hp which obviously doesnt make sense. And i wasnt the one who brought up stangs and SRT-4's you did.lol I drive an 08 EVO.
kind of hard to find them, only 500 in black, 500 in red, and 1000 in yellow... I got a good deal on it... $5K for it with 33K miles on it. Power everything, as well as a moonroof
@m326119 hey did you take it to red line? and where you running the recommended 91 octane or higher? just wondering why your time was so high. stock it should be at least a second lower. and what size turbo are you gonna throw in it?
Yes I had it up to 6500 RPM when shifting to the next gear... I should probably take it to around 6800 though... I know rev limiter kicks in at 7200 or 7400. I was going to throw on a Garrett GT28R or maybe the GT28RS. Ended up having everything to build it but I lost my job and had to part it all out... Now going to school for an education.
