  • that bass guy got groove

  • dope!!!

  • What kind of trumpet case does he use for that, I've always wondered, lol.

  • That is an odd-looking instrument...but it sounds great, lol. I like this original, but I think I've fallen in love with a cover of this by Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra. Don't get me wrong, though; I love me some Dizzy Gillespie. :D

  • Thumbs up if you cannot blow up your face like he does oO

  • I feel like I should mention his cheeks. No one else has though so I'll just leave it. It might be against the code to comment on a trumpet players jowels.

  • @toabns44 I noticed the cheeks thing too, haha,... it just goes against all the teaching laws these days,.... tho he does it pretty well ;))

  • yup

  • Absolutely wonderful.

  • @littledragon5 LOL 1000

  • @MINICQQPER

    Yes indeed! xD

  • I can listen to Dizzy all day long, thanks for posting

  • I love this song its a great tune dizzy always kills it

  • What kind of mute is he using ...

  • @radstainforth It's a wah-wah (also called "Harmon") mute, without the stem.

  • @megachadthereal I know they are also called wah-wah mutes but who really calls them that. I am a trumpet player and I have never once heard someone refer to it as a wah-wah mute. It don't matter though Dizzy is such a beast whether or not there is a mute on his horn.

  • thumbs up if you coudlent give a shit if you knew about him before and you just enjoy good music...

  • how do you look up dizzy and not like this

  • That double bass player is amazing!

  • Chubby Bunny Champ.

  • I didnt study under Dizzy Gillespie. I studied under the upright player (Chris White) accompanying Dizzy. I earned my bachelors degree in music technology, record production, and artist development as a direct result of Chris Whites tutelage at Bloomfield College of Bloomfield, NJ. Give more props to those who performed along side "the greats". I love you professor White. Hope your reading this.

  • When I was learning to play trumpet my teacher told me not to puff my cheeks like dizzy

  • @TheHuMoCa Yeah, CLEARLY Dizzy was doing it wrong all that time.... xD

  • @TheHuMoCa we have to learn from our admired teachers all that does not block our growth.

  • The study of Anatomy brought me here...

Now I don't just love medicine... but also JAZZ...

  • why is no one else commenting on how hilarious his face gets when he plays. it looks fake. lol. but none the less, he is amazing.

  • Knowing of Charlie Parker or Dizzy by google doesn't make you any less of a jazz fan... You childish twat, lol.

  • @chocolateganesh yes!!! tumbs up!! moreover I was tooo young before google existed :D

  • apparently, after he bent his first trumpet, he got a bent trumpet made for him because he could hear himself better :)

  • @ihatepopmusic13 I heard it was because he liked the tone better when it was bent.

  • what type of Al Cass mp is he using in this video?

  • since this type of comment seems to working pretty well... thumbs up if you found out about dizzy gillespie through your band teacher :D

¡Maravillosa presentación!!! Gracias x subirlo Yozik

  • Thumbs up if you are a fan of jazz, and found out about Dizzy Gillespie from a close friend who knows you more than you do.

  • Jesus, those cheeks.. He's like a damn chipmunk.

  • dizzy's cheeks remind me the nutty professor. skinny then chubby ha. His playing reminds me that i could spend my whole life listening to Jazz and not have wasted it

  • @matthewhenson1 ...well, i did know about him beforehand, but i don't really see why it matters. i'm just happy as hell that this music is getting out to fans, old and new alike!

  • @doesitexplode agreed!

  • he kind of looks like a forg. I bet he can hold a note forever.

  • Dizzy looks like a puffer fish! :)

but it's ok. he sounds amazing!

  • When God gave him those cheeks He must have known: Trumpet is Diz' destiny

  • Who shot this and where? One of the best - framed and edited jazz videos I have ever seen,

  • Blow that horn Diz................

  • That bass is just dancing like a nursery rhyme thats right on time everytime even in no time

  • Comment removed

  • Years ago I was lucky enough to hear him live in concert and the sound and emotion expressed will be with me forever. Truely one of the great jazz masters.

  • musians who play any type of horn are never sappossed to puff their cheeks, but he still sounds amazing

  • bass player sounds a little off

  • Faaaa!! como se le inflan los cachetes, que grande!!!!

  • oh lord lol his cheeks go huge when he blows!!!!

  • @734manuel i agree :)

  • Happy Birthday to the king of razzmatazz!

  • Thumbs this up if you found out about Dizzy by google.

  • @Balletdancer980 i'm sorry but unless you live in a rock you know about dizzy gillespie... the man is a legend not only to jazzmen but to any human being who has an ounce of culture.

  • @freighter014 shouldn't you at least be happy I found out about this guy???? And no one even asked you to reply, sooo.......

  • @Balletdancer980 Thumbs up if you're a jazz fan and knew about him long before Google existed.

  • @matthewhenson1 I did'nt know before Christopher Wesley White. I like Gillespie as the best trumpet player of the history (to me, much better than Davis). The only one who could play - more or less - like Dizzy - was Clifford Brown..

But I also like the - magic - "walking bass" in this piece.

I am still searching for the music of Dizzy and orchestra, for the radio broadcast in Italy in the '70s "Jazz Oggi". I vaguely remember a bebop-like piece with singers. If somebody could help me...

  • @rcova The best jazz trumpet player in history MUST be Fats Navarro! May I quote pianist Lennie Tristano? "Dizzy is a nice trumpet player but he's no Fats." I concur!

  • @GeoCoppens Much as I admire Dizzy, I feel that he roughly played one standard solo all the time. I agree that Fats Navarro was a greater stylist, but to be the best you have to be up against a good many players, from Bix to Miles. I don't know, they were all tremendous: Harry Edison, Jonah Jones, Cootie Williams, Jabbo Smith, Satchmo, Brownie, Lee Morgan, Art Farmer (now he could play bebop!). Best to you.

  • @Balletdancer980 haha I like your style- @#'~' the snobs!

  • Cosmic Cheeks, Dizzy Trademark, no one can ever, ever, replicate! God gave him his cheeks, to stretch to the Cosmic.

  • @AlanahText - yeah and deaf as well ;)

  • Happy Birthday Diz. (Also dig the rest of the band, all great players in their own right: too bad they are not heard on this video.)

  • Woah... 5 people missed the "LIKE" button or they are just blind!

  • @AlanahText These kinds of messages stopped being funny forever ago. Stop it. You're not funny, you're not creative.

  • very nice music.. but.. hahahah, everytime he blows in there, his glasses jump!

  • he looks like a frog... but he plays nice music...

  • Nothing but beauty in this... sweet, soft and soulful! It would have been amazing watching this live... Happy Birthday Dizzy!

  • his cheecks are legendary

  • That a clásic masterpieze .latín jazz roots . Bass player is fantástico tremenduos trumpest . Dizzy is a genios . Ok.

  • ...bass from heaven. Wow.

  • This is a very relaxing song.........

  • Not a fan of new jazz and new wave european jazz and this new jazz and that.

Every time I come here it cheers me up ten fold.

    Love it.

  • Respect!!!!!!!!

    What a performance.

  • coooooooool....

  • This is one of my favorites. Saw Diz in 1979 and will never forget it...

  • Beautiful piece. Dizzy Gillespie is my favorite jazz trumpeter. Miles is great, Satchmo laid the foundation, but there's something about Dizzy's playing that really excites me. Thanks for posting this excellent video.

  • lol his cheeks are ginormus! xD My face alwqays gets all red when I play.

  • I adore this. On a late night, glass of wine, Headphones on...Bliss. Only Coltrane, for me, can match this man.

  • Amazing!

  • This tune is one of my all time faves... he did it originally with Chano Pozo on Conga... Chris White smokes on this... I do a rendition of it on my Fender bass with a flute instead of Trumpet

  • his cheeks look like tey're made for blowing a trompet!

    GENIUS!!!

  • tehehe hes like a froggy. just his cheeks. hes a beast though dont get me wrong

  • amazing

  • God bless the Youtube shuffle, otherwise I would have never heard this.

  • His music is great. He is a wonderful musician. I just can't get over those cheeks.

  • amazing purlly amazing

  • Dizzy Gallespie: a true legend. Complete transformation when he starts to blow. He is like a cartoon character. Even his trumpet is distinct. Nothing short of excellence.

  • that little figure he blows at 2:30 just knocks me out. Virtuosity.

  • Sorry, I meant to say 2:37

  • the bassist is hot, sorry i had to write this ;)

  • @0099005500660077

a frog who become more than a prince : the king

  • @spiningaway a frog who become more than a prince : the king

  • lol he looks like a frog

  • oscar peterson also plays it can someone please upload

  • Damn! I got a chill ! Cool bass line and ice cold trumpet tone

  • Damn Dizzy Gillespie is so badass. Definitely one cool cat!

  • Can someone upload tin tin deo david sanborn

  • How does he do that with his face :| hes like a frog... Como ase eso con su cara es como un zapo :|

  • well, Sandoval may be good but I ain't never heard Sandoval do this type of stuff...reminds you that it ain't the volume or how high the pitch, or how many notes...

  • It says "Quintet" but looks and sounds like a duet to me!

  • I ike the way the horn blows peaceful thoughts of the morning but the bass is all about the business and bus noise of the day

  • Dizzy be hopin and bopin those phrases like a fish out of water.

  • Brilliant I can't say anything more.

  • amazing....what year was this performance in?

  • 1965

  • Such an amazing atmosphere.

  • at 0:15-0:17 his cheeks move his glasses but hes still the best tho

  • Haha funny!

  • not frog more like gerbil with stuffed cheeks. He is a great tumpet player. the best in my eyes.

  • OMG these puffed-up cheeks of Dizzy!! - and how they suddenly fall in just to puff up anew. Does anyone know of anybody who manages to extend his cheeks even more that Dizzy? I don't think so!

  • actually Maynard Ferguson hits even higher =]] but i love dizzy's sound

  • His trademark cheeks is what gives him the embouchure, that gives the incredible high pitch. No one can reach notes high as dizzy.

    Frog? Try a monster trumpeter.

  • I think cheeks are part of it, however your embouchure has mostly to do with the lips, so dizzy has a good pair of lips

  • What a sound!!!!

Does anyone know what kind of trumpet mute that is??????

  • its a harmon mute

  • Its a Harmon mute

  • You pierce my soul ..King of cool...(no disrespect intended, but if I was Dizzy Gillespie.I would definitely dress up as a blowfish on halloween.)

  • saw Dizzy do this on TV with Marcus Miller and a full band. He really put the english guy who hosted the show in his place, in a nice way of course....

  • he just looks like a frog, funny.

  • i love how Diz' glasses pop up when his cheeks expand on those loud and high notes

  • siiiicccckkkkkkkkkk....^_^....amazing

  • Try some of his earlier vids. You'll see what he evolved from....re. ...form.

  • he was close to the perfect sound, or didn't he finally get it?.

    A true legend... thanks!

  • The Great Mr. Gillespie.

  • This what my Grandfather and my Pop I use to listen too.

  • Me too. Dizzy is King.

  • Wow. He looks like a frog.

    Damn that's cool.

He has such bad form but he still plays really good.

  • LOL yes

  • @ObeseSheep ...I'm afraid I have to disagree with you. This fellow is clearly way beyond the sort of petty rules that are designed to assist us mere mortals. An absolute master.

  • @BabaStiletto Well said good sir, well said.

  • Words seem inadequate to describe this music, so no one can really give me any hassle for simply saying 'outa sight!'.

  • its kinda wierd looking at his cheeks... but what the hell!

I like it! Thanks for posting!
