yo i was wondering what you call the sleeves cuz i knew my shocks were stock, but i can also lower them. i need some coilovers cuz dis busted shock business not workin 4 me.
@bmxn4l1f3 I believe I began at 1.8" of drop and over a course of 6 months ended up being around 2.5" of drop which was too much for the struts to handle. It's up to your discretion regarding using oem struts and sleeves. I actually feel that since the price of coilovers has dropped and there are so many different available options which keep the spring preload it is the best way to go.
that's why you buy full body coils man megan racing is cheap and some of the parts are shit but it's better than the whole koni and ground control systems people recommend because you are either compressing the spring or the shock which is bad and im not sure about winter driving man not something i would do in my car im buying a second car to keep my soon to be autocross miata out of rain and snow
on my acura CL i just craigslist searched 'acura springs' found some integra springs (most honda/integra's springs are universal, but i'm sure you know that from your integra struts lol) from megan racing for 50 dollars. then went and bought 4 KYB AGX struts from rockauto.com for 40 bucks a piece. went to autozone to buy the top mounts since i totally forgot about them when ordering the rest.
As of suggestion most full bodied coilovers with an adjustable lower perch such as PIC, Buddy club, Ksports ect are infact better than a sleeve set up as it maintains shock travel allowing for a reduction in ride height without increasing the strain so much on the shock for a longer life.
i cant believe your shocks lasted 2 years of winter driving on stock shocks with ebay coilovers. i could never get that lucky mine would blow in a day.
No offense dude, but coming to youtube for car advice is about the worst idea ever. way to many keyboard mechanics around here. just get on a forum for your specific car and they should be able to guide you in the right direction.
@kompressor124 Never did I wonder why my original shocks seals crapped out. Reduction in suspension travel, under dampened, and old. Shocks failed and it can occur on any vehicle with the combination of the aforementioned possibilities. This is more of a simple educational video for people who do not know how to visually diagnose a 100% blown shock and the potential issues that come with it.
im no auto expert but if the "roads are really horrible" there in Canada, wouldnt getting rid of your gap be the last thing you would want? ie clearance for potholes etc
This does make sense but if you get yourself a good set of aftermarket struts and springs or adjustable coilovers, you wil have very little play in the suspention so the tire will not rub. Depending on how your setup is though, you may or may not feel the hard bumps but good coilovers offer the drop, stiffness and comfy ride at the same time.
@melonheed3 I'd agree with that, if the roads are bad and you add in the snow/ice factor you'd want to keep all the clearance/suspension travel. since they either sand or salt the roads each winter it's going to eat your suspension, I'd either stick to the stock or swap out the good stuff before it starts snowing each winter :-p I live in Alaska so I get to feel the pain too... when I get to WI this May I'm getting adjustable coilovers :-D
i gotta ep3 and had coilovers for about 2 years and what had happend to your struts happend to mine and i then got some good conditon used struts with lowering springs and the car is pretty low and it rides way better then before so would say get lowering springs there much better than coilover.thanx
when ever you lower a car/truck you change not just how high it sets but your camber, caster and toe on your alignment coilovers are okay to use you just need struts with the same rebowned as your coils and a good camber kit if anyone of these are not matched you could get uneven tire ware or a bad ride even with the right stuff make sure not to bottom out the coil or you will be riding on the bump stop witch will blow the struts out
my car is lowered and i think i have the same problem...my back right shock keeps on makin noise...im afraid its gonna plow right through the car...i oredered konico struts fits with my springs..i hope this gives a smoother ride and no noise..
If you are interested in mainly just comestics. I suggest using lowering springs with aftermarket shocks such as Koni's or KYB AGX otherwise spend the money on a full coilover system.
The camber was fine not much wear on the inside of the tires. When my Upper controls arms went bad my front two tires were BALD from the inside 3/4 of the tire.
The steering wheel also wanted to wander everywhere.
Being a university student and trying to save for anything car related almost doesn't work. If I had enough money to buy a winter beater I would not be using stock shocks and cheap sleeveovers.
Do not ever cheapout on you suspension it can be dangerous to you and the others around you.
ahhaha should have seen the shocks on my jetta after stock shocks with 2in drop springs. there was no resistance at all. you could pull the rod in and out with no force. but it is my own fault. as your shocks are you own fault also. stock shocks where never made to take the abuse of lowering.
hey man i just bought an adjustable coilover and i just wanna know if i just install the springs not to install the adjuster with it, how low would it be????and by the way i have an eg6
Installing just the springs, If they do fit would be a horrible idea. Very unsafe since they are only about 5"-7.5" in length versus stock which is about 12-14".
The generic adjusters can lower the car easily 2.75"+ in the front and the rear 2.5"-2.75" before you have to cut a part of the strut spring seat. Without the adjusters you could be 4" or more dropped easily which is HIGHLY UNSAFE on your car.
hay go waith eibach they are great and at a great price i drive my civic eg at the track and all year round and i have had them for over two years now.
tein or eibach but there not meant for winter no real performance setup is winterized so id just get the cheapest best adjustable shocks u can buy and get performance springs skunk 2 has nice setup too but up to u later
go with function form F2 type 1 coilovers its a full coilover and proly the best for street use i've had teins, skunk2 and the same as you but the F2 coilovers worked the best for bumpy roads here in utica they run about $600 on ebay so the are cheap 2
Tokico Blue with springs, It'll give you a 1.40 " drop... I'll actually be picking them up for my civic in a few weeks, about 400.00... man after seeing yours with only 2 years of winter, i think mine have been on it since it was made 2000

so when you first installed them how low were they set? i heard tha if you stay above 2 inches ebay sleeves on stock struts are just fine.

Not only are the roads shit in Canada. At least Ontario, but there's fucking retarded steep-angled curbs everywhere.

how many miles are on your car? your suspension shouldn't bounce, (obviously) ether the springs are messed up, or the struts have failed.

AN UPDATE: I have been on Integra struts and my OEM civic springs for the past few months and its been great not bouncing around.
Some problems from blown shocks on my suspension include:
Bad/worn upper control arms on the front
Destroyed front lower control arm bushings
2 horribly worn front tires form combination of above.
