Normally there's no such thing as Open Beta during a MMO development.. Only invitational. The game is scheduled to release on June 23rd. And the footage is from more than a year ago so don't expect to be in the beta and wait for the release. My opinion :-) Sorry about the smart thing.

Is there - ANY- even slightly mainstream MMO that has not had open beta..? I've been in around 20 MMO open betas (and about the same ammount of closed ones). EQ2, Vanguard, PotBS, AoC, STO, LOTR are the ones coming to my mind atm. Open betas are where you do server stress tests, find those strange system incopatabilities and get the final test of game completeness. Open betas usually run for a few months before the game is released to sort out the last, or at least the worst, remaining bugs.

If it can capitalize on EVE's weaknesses (piss poor mission/mining content, newbie hostility and static PvP) whilst maintaining its main strengths (although single server may not be required) such as having the same risk vs reward factor and providing a fun sandbox for empire and alliance space control.. then JGE may work.

It can't however hope to have the same level of depth as EVE.

i have yet not seen a cockpit view. Wonder if there is one? It will feel like a typical console shooter without it. maybe not relevant to many but to me it would feel nicer when using my joystick with separate throttle.

Cockpit view has been confirmed, which is awesome as there is no replacement for cockpit view and a HOTAS controller.

This game would likely never replace EVE, but I could see it definitely reaching or passing beyond the number of players EVE has, especially with its awesome twitch-based combat system and no click-to-move.

EVE is working on joystick flight for Asteroid exploration. And maybe also for planetary flight.

When we go boots down, we might need to contract some Jumpgate pilots anyway. ]:)-

i'm a long time player of EVE... the current way eve is going i can see this now replacing it... nerf after nerf after nerf has finally come into the point that the game is ruined... and the fast paced interactivity this game appears to be delivering... cant wait to try the beta and make my final decision.

EVE is a tactical/strategic MMO in pvp, not a reflex one...Play Darkfall or Jumpgate until you can wrap your head around that.

Maybe come back for the planetary warfare, but that will also involve tactics more than reflex I assume.

Btw, nanos are now harder to kill, damage system has been logicalized, server set to world-breaking limits, more industrial content, and AFs/transports are useful, but CCP never wins does it.

you come accross as someone with around 5-6mil sp and no real sense of the game because you sit in empire wardeccing people.

nano's are not harder to kill... it's only noobs like you which think that, christ they werent hard to kill in the first place. i'm someone which has 15mil invested in minmatar lvl 5 skills accross the board and if my ship is moving more than 500m/s it cant track.

there is no endgame content in eve, all you do is get stronger the longer you play.

When you get stronger and stronger, so does your enemies. There are no winners, and the only possible purpose to Eve Online would be to get Friends and what you could call "Power for the moment".
