I think that one of the major problems with many types of sold camoflage patterns is color bleed at a distance. U.S. army digital looks grey to me at 20 feet. Marpart forest looks like a dark green at 20 feet. Multicam looks like a lime green at 20 feet. As one youtube video, one of the best patterns in a black and white photo is those Hawaiian shirts. Make one with the right colors and it would be a hell of a good camoflauge pattern.

Here is another thing

all of the video was done on the side that the sun is hitting them.

Now do the same test on the other side facing the sun! You will find out how ACU is made to work. On one side it's an Urban/desert/rocky/ snow camo on the other side it works as a woodland camo.

Yes it does not blend in well with Woodland nor dessert. Think of it as the Urban version of Marpat.

not true Urban track was the base for UCP/ARPAT/ACU pattern. It was chosen because it was the top performer in Urban and at night time operations.

Gray disappears at 200 meters plus and the reason armys have been using it since WW1. Hiding behind woodland you could be naked and not be detected,

in Urban/desert/open field you are out in the open and where camo really matters.

ha you must not have seen it through night vision and in an Urban environments.

Here is how it works up close it's urban camo far away in open field it acts like an ARID camo now I am talking 200 meters+ in woodland it requires to have a tree canopy with shadows, it will not work with light on it, when the light hits it it will turn into an Urban/desert camo, hope this helps. But over all Night and urban is what it's for

UCP/ACU is a NIR camo made for Night vision and the Greek or I should say French lizard is made for day light operations.

UCP still broke up ok but to be fair to the test using 3rd generation Night vision the UCP/ACU would not show up.

@1lostinspace ACU camo itself IS NOT an NIR camo. The milspec issue ACU uniform is treated to reduce the IR signature with a chemical agent, that degrades over time. The pattern itself was designed for multiple terrain, but is not itself NIR "proof".

Ahh this is not true all military camo is treated with NIR chemical agent but colors do matter, In US army testing UCP/ACU was the top night performer, colors like black create a dark figure that can be seen from far and the main reason why it was taken out of the UCP/ACU pattern. It was originally known as Urban track.

Colors do play a big role, no matter how much you treat black it acts like an NIR strobe light.

A lot of people don't understand how it works. Ever seen troops with ARPAT/ACU out in the open past 300 meters? ACU was made for open field distance for Urban desert in woodland it needs shadows and cover to work unless there is gray around. It is the best Urban camo ever made. Other camo like Multicam don't blend in Urban Pure desert or snow.

@1lostinspace ACU doesn't work anywhere, I wore it in Iraq, and nothing there is grey, it's all brown, sand, and even green, which ACU doesn't have at all. Marine desert atariflage works better than ACU in theater. Khaki is hard to see at 300 meters, or OD, or old army t shirt brown for that matter. ACU is Ok for 'steel and glass' post modern urban, not Haji turd world dump urban. The IR coating washes out, Ever watch dismounts with thermals on a IFV? Urban Pure, what is that, Houston, LA?

I agree with you that Marpat works better out there. ACU works better then you think. I have seen it blend in very well in alot of places. My friend came back and said ACU works fine out there, it's movement that gives you away. Also his ACU coming back looked more like Marpat desert.

@1lostinspace Lighter colors are harder to see at a distance, darker khaki colors are good at this. I've seen ACU not blend in a lot of different locales. In an area with any fauna, it is a plain out liability. They do fade and match the crustiness of Iraq with a few dozen washings, which would make them even worse, in say, a palm tree grove, or in the reeds around the Tigris or Euphrates or any of the thousands of canals in theater. In Europe, South America, or Korea, they don't work at all.

Well the pattern is the same as Cadpat,Marpat they all share the same pattern just different themes CADPAT is made for green lush areas, Marpat is made for Green/brown areas and UCP is primarily an Urban camo but it's colors make it work really good under NV this why most nocturnal animals are gray tan. It also works really good when viewed from far away and can hard to detect even while moving. That was one of the focus was to blend while moving at long range 500 meters+

The ACU works good when in the snow but horrible when in the woodland your better off going with the Hellenic Army camo unless there is snow on every thing. grate video on showing that ACUs might not blend but do have a good look to them.
