  • This technique sucks too

ah ha ha ha ha ha

  • anlamsız- Etkisiz ve kötü bir çalışma... Kötü..

  • grappling as a sport ok, grappling as self defence no,open hand strikeing, low kicks and stomping also not grappling back is better.

  • Please do not empower women to place themselves in chokeholds. Instead empower them to seek out e.g. a judo dojo or Brazilian jiu-jitsu gym, where they will be taught how to grapple with people who are actually providing realistic resistance.

  • how about atemi ? strike to the top of his hand, soften him up..he's bigger than you. Also to end your technique, you only have maybe two steps on him, you're not getting away easily. Dislocate his shoulder, then you can WALK away.

  • To be fair, you can't just say someone's right because they're respected. As soon as you push his arms up, they're going to tighten around his neck. You need to push his arms out, exit from the side, attack him first before he can attack you, then take the sankyo. Or at least that's what I'd do, as I don't want to get strangled.

  • lets just hope they all have reaction times of 4.5seconds

  • Your palm it not looking to the floor, that is the only way to keep the uke out of balance, in other way the uke it´s helping you to finish the sankyo

  • Hi, with all the respect, I´m a martial with diference experiences like ninjutsu, karate, jujitsu, but the art that i´ve been practincing since almost eleven years it´s Aikido and i thing it´s very good to show some techniques that a persona can aply on the street, and i know you know well every one of these, but before put a video on internet i think that it´s important to check the video, because the sankyo control it wrong.

  • @jihaywood, with all due respect, you do not know Sensei Penny Bernath. She is a 6th degree black belt with over 30 years of aikido experience. She is well respected within the U.S. Aikido Federation. Also, at Florida Aikikai, aikido is taught as a martial art with emphasis placed on effectiveness. I suggest you visit us and you will be pleasantly surprised to learn how effective our techniques really are.

  • @giriasis well said, like a true aikidoka !

  • Penny, I am nidan rank karateka and black sash wing chun practitioner with a blue belt in BJJ. While I admire you, I have to admit, that this technique would not work. Especially for someone with such a small frame such as yourself. Shoji Nishio is an aikidoka who is trying to save aikido as a repectable martial system, not just moving meditation (which is fine also). You might want to check him out.

  • @jjhaywood Mate, Aikido, as Karate-Do, Judo or Kung Fu arts are, if well practised and understood, respectable martial systems. There's only one Aikido: the one it works. If it works it's Aikido, if it doesn't, it's not. Simple. Nishio, one of my favourites, used to teach what Aikido is: a martial art. The problem with some aikidoists is that they practise the art in a wrong way. But We can't blame Aikido but those who practise it incorrectly...

  • @jjhaywood For instance: under Saotome Shihan training program, We practise the Aikido He likes, which according to him, is "the Aikido as I learnt from the Founder". On empty hands it includes A LOT of techniques from: Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Boxing, Muai Thay and Kung Fu (kicks). Using weapons we have a very complete training programm that includes Philippine Kali-Arnis (knives/stick), Kobudo, Sipalki, Iaido/Kendo, Kenjutsu, Shuriken-jutsu (ninja style), and the mastring of Yari and Naginata.

  • @jjhaywood Anyway, even when the Aikido of the Founder O Sensei is plenty rich of martial resources, techniques and tricks, the core of that Aikido is not seen on youtube, DVDs or books. Nishio, Saotome, Sunadomari, Saito, Shioda, Kuroiwa, etc., learnt from Founder Ueshiba that from certain level the practise must be taught personally from master to pupil. And there's not even a single pic or film allowed during those sessions so as not to show them massively.....

  • @jjhaywood It's nice to discuss these things with someone with experience in Wing Chun. Probably, that's the chinese art (as Choy Lee Fut and some old shaolin styles as well) to close to real Aikido core and martial development.

If you see this vid on Wing Chun, you could say you have just watched us practising atemis in an Aikido training session. These techniques and variations are part of the Aikido program and/or practised regularly and seriously.

  • It's a shame the elbow strike won't do a thing. Any video that gives advice for a girl to strike a guy needs to be reconsidered. It's just not realistic to ask a likely smaller female to strike with a bigger male. It's also a shame that by lifting her arms the attacker's arms are repositioned to grab her neck. Of course the uke breaks his arms apart and leaves them there whereas a real attacker would be squeezing with all his might.

  • Penny you are losing your power by bending at the waist. You need to keep your back straight.

  • This video is for demonstration purposes. They obviously aren't trying to hurt each other. I've seen Aikido in action and it does work in skilled hands.

  • this would never work on the streets...too slow and not realistic!

  • @mgeery With all due respect, I don't think you understand the purpose of training or a training video. The purpose is repetition, so your body gains the muscle memory to perform, and to build up confidence. You don't train a guitarist to do a complex solo the first day. Aikido, to me, is the only "art" that is more like a science. Learning attack angles, body momentum, position.

  • @fuelburningoracle Like a science! LOL What a funny thought. Science is stuff that's actually tested - Aikido is all dojo work with no real testing.

  • @strokerman01 all martial arts is dojo work with no real testing. But at least Aikido teaches you how handle an attacker vs punching a bag.

  • @fuelburningoracle eaxctly right. well said:)

  • Aikido is a great art. However, attacks are very violent and very dynamic. This response does not look like it would be very effective at speed. Any chance you could do a video of the same thing with an attacker who was a bit more determined? Thanks.

  • Sorry Penny-this works great with an aikido uke-not a real attacker.

  • Great sensei, great. Aikido is for PERSONS. And that really includes WOMEN
