  • is royal purple better than mobil 1? anyone?

  • Wouldn't driving the car put more stress on the chassis than jacking it up...think about it.

  • Well done! Great tutorial thank you. Is that full synthetic oil?

  • If the oil life monitor said 6% of the oil life was left, then it wasn't overdue, the oil was still fine. The oil you are pouring into that engine, does the bottle say it meets the GM-4718M performance standard? For the Corvette, this is the type of oil that must be used. I looked on their website, but there was no information regarding this at all, in fact, I couldn't find any Product Data Sheets on their oils, as is typically available at any oil companies website anywhere in the world.

  • Change your oil no more than beyond 50%. Never install a new filter dry, always fill it before installation.

  • @death2pc - The oil life monitor works. No need to change oil when it reads only 50% on the oil life monitor.

  • Great Video. I have the same Year / Color Vette. Can't wait to do it myself. Did you notice any differance using the Purple Motor oil? Thanks for the Video.

  • i'm considering changing oils to royal purple 5w-20. anyone try it yet? how is it? ive heard it burns quickly

  • how about using a forklift instead of a jack to pick up the rear?

  • love to see you and me in that car babe

  • cracking the doors is not a myth, it prevents chassis flex

  • The integrity of a vehicle lies on its foundations. Cracking trunk and doors before jacking, I think, is a myth. If you close all the lids will ensure its integrity. Just look at NASCARS for example; they don't even have doors...thats integrity right there. This is just my opinion.

  • yea that gotta be a total myth to crack everything open cuz its fiber glass. Whoever said that must of not know that the c5 corvette has a hydroformed frame which make it very stiff first of all and its not built like a regular car, i have jacked my c5 up with everything closed on one side and have no problems since then

  • Remember the following rule: Righty tighty, leftly loosy :) Hope this helps.. by the way no sense in applying the parking break if your gonna lift the rear of the car :)

  • Very thorough. I've always wanted to work on my OWN CORVETTE. I do not trust Firestone or Goodyear or any other repair shops anymore. All rip-off's as far as I am concerned. They always tell us we need more work than is necessary. I've caught several shops doing this. Lying about repairs! Good work John. Next time show us exactly how you changed 'OIL FILTER' this is my test... James, US Army, Sergeant

  • I want to buy that thing when you get done with it lol . RP is some good stuff .

  • Comment removed

  • @THEARMEDLIFE Royal Purple is a full synthetic

  • @SiRHumpAlot924 i stand corrected. thank sir. but i would still stick to mobil 1. just my opinion

  • Thanks for the vid man, helped me alot. Went to home depot built the ramps, they work perfect for my 04 zo6. Best part only spent $50 for the wood!

  • Nice video, but you are wasting your time and money putting that junk in your vette. Wouldn't put that stuff in my cammed Z06 or blown ls3 vette. Stay with Mobil 1.

  • i work at Discount Tire Co. and we do open everything before jacking the corvette up. what the company told us is that the corvette is a fiberglass unibody vehicle and like you said it will damage the body. so thats what i know lol, or what ive been told

  • sow when you live in a cold country you want your oil to be thin so it can flow smooter when the oil is cold and gets to the right thiknes when its worm it depent on hou cold it gets in the country and the engine of the car

  • @tunay013

    Thanks for the insight man!

  • @JohnFromSpace

    your welcome

if you have any questions just ask me i would gladly try to help you

    btw nice chanel

  • @tunay013

Thanks for the kind words man.

  • and i dont know for sure but i dident hear it dont forget to replace the metal ring around the plug and make sure the old ring didint stay on the engin same thing wite the rubber on the oilfilter look very carfuly on the engine for the rubber ring of the old filter

and the oil depends on what part of the world you live in the numebers and letter of the oil means the viscosety of the oil for example 5w is the thiknes of the oil when its cold 30 mis the thinknes when its hot

  • there are few things i want to say aswel

its better to get the oil on temp when the oil is on temp draining the oil goes faster becus it becums thiner and all the dirt in the oil wil get out to becus its flowts in the hot oil

and you dont nesesery have to fill the oil filtir becus oil is so made it wil stick on any kind of metal as the gent in the vid says be very sure you put oil around the ruber ring or else you have the chans you can screw up the rubber putting it on again

  • how much does that car go for?

  • @xAnThOnYx718

I got it for $14500 from a dealer and seen them go for as low as $10000 from a private party.

  • @JohnFromSpace i got mine for 15500 its had new michelins cold air intake headers flowmasters

  • @acres90

Awesome man! Mods on Corvettes are expensive! So all you have to do is drive yours and enjoy it!

  • @JohnFromSpace wonder what the headers cost?

  • @acres90

    Exhausts are 800-1000

    Headers 800-1500

    Intake 200-400

So yeah Enjoy your car you got the basics on there already and I'm sure your car sounds badass!

  • @JohnFromSpace i got 2 vids....not too good quality yet but check em out

  • I would take off the roof also because they will stress crack over time. I would pass on the GM filter they use paper ends caps & not metal. Its posted on You Tube.

  • I did a C5 Vette today at work and it is so time conuming. Drain oil for 7mins, add new oil, let oil set, start eninge, let it run, turn off let oil set...etc etc bla bla....but on the up side everything is so easy to get to, i can't complain.

  • At the end of the day a Corvette is a GM so nothing complex about them, part of the appeal of owning one IMO.

  • Very helpful Video. I bought my C5 awhile back and was going to take minds in for an oil change, but after seeing this video, I'm going to do it myself. Thanks A lot.

  • Awesome, glad I can inspire a fellow C5 Owner. Use the money saved to take out a loved one =)

  • The myth was actually real on older Corvettes. The C5 frame is so stiff that there is no risk of the body actually flexing like in the C1-C3s.

  • Thanks for the comment, so the myth does have its orgin

  • Is it the exact same way on a C5 z06 Vette?? Just got the car a little bit ago and have to change the oil soon

  • Congrats on the purchase man, its the exact same way bud.

  • Just love your videos. I allso have saved for many years to my dream car Corvette C5. I´m planing to do a coolant change, but i don´t know how to do, so i´m waiting for you to do a great video :-D

  • I get what your trying to say. Thanks for the tips bud. I've also seen those jacking pucks to prevent under carriage damage.

  • Nice vid. What I also do is I poor in about 1/4 quart of oil with the plug out to help wash out the pan. I let that finish draining the put the plug back in. Just something I do.

  • I do that too. Just didnt do that in this video cause itll make me look way to obsessive compulsive =P

  • you shouldnt even own a vette nice black ass oil idiot

  • When I changed the oil I just bought the car a week earlier so that was first on my to do list. Dont need to be an asshole buddy. No need for that.

  • im not but dont slam quick lubes and keep on with taking care of your car i manage one and we do a lot af high end cars so i was upset someone let oil get that way sorry man

  • No problem. Keep up the good work managing your service center. They have a really bad rep because a lot of them are shady especially Jiffy Lube. I'm glad theere are some people who are honest.

Just search "Jiffy Lube Scam" that video pisses me off so much because 5/9 places didnt even do the work and not everyone can do their own oil change. People like the elderly and it sucks places like that take advantage of them.

  • we are on the up and up you pay more, but you get what you pay for so thats how i run my shop

  • you do have a corvette ... lol i wannnt. i think ima get one as my next car. a c5 vette cos a c6 would prolly cost too much used lol i could imagine now. right when i move out of my dads place and finish college and have my own apt, i'll get a corvette :)

  • Haha yeah I really do =P

Like I said it was a 12 year wait but it was worth it =) C5s are really cheap now and I think they look better then the C6s anyway. I think 2005 C6's are in the 25-30k range right now.

Zo6's and Zr1s look a lot better then the Normal C6 but those were way way out of my price range =P

  • seriously. and idk if im guna be making much money coming out of college in a year anyways. c5 it is!

  • hehe i just did an oil change on the Metro yesterday. it was a bit over a month over due and that oil was black and thick..

The Metro says 3 quarts of oil but filter sucks up almost a quart so i buy 5. 3 for what it takes 1to fill up what the oil filter sucks up and 5 just to keep the oil level full during the 3 months before the next oil change.

  • Correction: 1 just to keep to keep the oil level full during the 3 months before the next oil change.

  • When I know I'm about to do an oil change soon I add seafoam to the oil. Supposedly it cleans up the sludge. I dont leave the seafoam in too long.

I only leave it in for a day or drive the car about 20 miles.

Hey thanks for the Movie Maker tutorial. I finally put it to use =P

  • I've never used seafoam before, I'll give it a try on the next oil change if i find it for sale somewhere.

    Your welcome.

  • What do you use? I think Castrol is the best when it comes to non synthetics.

  • Thats exactly what I used.

    Castrol GTX SAE 5W-30

  • The Saturn Ion I made a video of is a friends car. She asked me if I can do her oil change and she said she didnt care what I put in it.

Whenever I have a friend that says put whatever in it I always put castrol. I never use fram oil filters either. I dont think they cause engine failure if they did they would be out of business but I did cut one open because I heard of the bad reputation these things have and they are really shoddy.

  • I told her to never go to Jiffy Lube again. I cringed when I saw the Jiffy Lube reminder sticker on her car =/

    I hate those guys =)

I use Puralator or AC Delco when a friend asks me to help them and for myself I use K&N and Royal Purple Filters.
