  • fix the clutch ..the inside thrust needs to be replaced

  • My 1st Kawi! Back in 84.Cost $700.I wish I had it now.

  • The knocking sound is caused by the carbs being out of synch.

  • Nice bike man, almost looks like my 81 kawasaki kz550

  • Sounds like it needs the carbs synchronized. Rattly idle and didn't really want to idle back down. I had a GPz 550 back in 84-85. Great little hotrod machine, fun fun bike..

  • Could be the primary drive chain . Common problem on this model . The chain is driven off the crank to the back of the clutch basket

  • I just got a 550 4 days ago. I thought something was wrong because of the low rattle/grind but I hear it on yours too. Guess their suppose to sound like that. Anyone know? I'm not talking about the way it idles or anything to do with the carbs. But the sound of rolling rocks.

  • i have an 82 kz 550 a2...same motor, same everything pretty much exept the front fairing and some other things.....but i got a mac 4-1 header and pipe, with a custom glass pack baffle and tip that i made out of a v rod exhaust....sounds badass and runs nice. the reason his engine blew is prolly because he didnt jet the carbs according to the

  • Hello Pommy540

I have sent you an email to a website that is about nothing but 550's. I bought a

kz550 GPz and found a broken jet in the #3carb bowl. NO longer available! NO where!

I went on the forum and the guys there are awesome. They can answer any questions you could possibly have.

Btw A guy in Montreal Canada that races these bikes (Brian D.) had the jet. He sent it to me. won't be long now b4 she runs

I Have to thank Corey and Brian for the help.

    "nwsca" You know the rest

  • Thanks for the help, i hope it is as useful to me as it was for you. But im no gearhead so i might leave it to a pro though. Thank you anyhow.

  • These bikes cast a spell on their owner's! Once you ride one you'll never go back. They will out perform most any new bike around a corner. Even with technology that is 32 years old! I pass by Buell's and Ducati's around ANY corner. And yes, the people riding them are competent riders. Yes, Buells and Ducati's!!! They pass me on the straights, but they know who the top dog is!

  • I wonder if the noise is (possibly related to it needing a valve job???

  • I had a GPZ 550 -w- FULL F1 Champion Moriwauki alottment of parts on it and I drove it on the street. 1mm oversize intake and exhaust were sodium filled, 599cc 13:1s, bored carbs, I could list page after page of mods...I would have to post 200 times to get it all in here. Lots of fun. Tore up the 600s, 750s, 900s and 1000s all the time for almost five years until they cake out with much faster and better handling bikes..

  • That pretty badass, and sounds like you really know what your doing. Im not much of a tech when it comes to tuning and mods, but i really enjoy riding, I want to ride coast to coast, maybe someday. thanks for commenting.

  • @pommy540 yea! In 2000, I bought a 2001 GSX-R750 and rode from Chicago to the San Bernardino National Forest(SBNF) where I camped for ~6 weeks in the late Fall, in a tent at 6k feet, with temps ranging from 35F to 50F, then on to Silicon Valley. Go to the SBNF! Also ride North of the Grand Canyon and see white river birch tree forests potted in dark red soil, with deep green lichen ground cover! Beautiful. Leave all behind and bathe in creeks and ocean! Take good company, the Holy Bible!

  • carbs need balanced

  • sorry for the late reply, how do you tell that the carbs are unbalanced? I know it need work, but i was planing to sell it, so i didnt want to put any more money into it, but I stilll have it. Thank you for the comment.

  • All you do to tell if the carbs are unbalanced is listen to it. If it doesnt sound right and there doesnt really seem to be anything else causing the engine to sound like that then its definitely the carbs.

  • thanks, i like it too, i thought people were going to think this vid was lame, but i wasn't aiming for anything. I was thinking about putting 4into 1 pipes on mine because oem is very expensive, but did you notice any difference when you put the new pipes on? like performance wise, this kid i know, who rides dirt bikes, says that by switching from dual pipes to 4 into 1, your bike can lose back pressure, but i don't know much about bikes and dirt bikes. What do you think?
