  • this version is WOLRLDS better than any other version (2005...) Best movie i´ve ever seen. Best Darcy, Best Lizzy, best Collins, best mrs bennet, best mr bennet >> all perfect!

  • the speech of the priest is so awkward hahaha

  • for the record I would want to marry mr Bingley He is so much fun and sweet.

  • Mr.Collins at 02:09! Lmaaooooo

Am I the only one that laughs whenever he comes up? He looks like a mouse, have you seen the Harry Potter films, Scabbers the mouse when he turns into a human he looks like him Mr.Collins, bahha

  • to be honest I actually prefer the keira knightley version it was much more moving and less awkward but still retained the beauty and amazing dialogue of the book plus to be honest colin firth does nothing for me I much prefer the better intensity of matthew's performance as Mr Darcy & the more passionate & moving performance of Keira as Elizabeth not 2 mention the scene in which Elizabeth tells her father she loves Darcy is much more emotional in the keira knightley version than it is in this 1

  • Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy is so fuckable.

  • I'm sad they didn't include the weddings in the film version :(

Although I love this series, i did prefer the father/daughter scene in the film, Donald Sutherland & Keira Knightley knocked it out of the park. There wasn't much emotion in this version of the scene

  • i saw colin firth and jennifer ehle again in many other movies, but the rest of the cast, i havent seen them again in any movie. i loved this version, and the movie too. they both have their own character.

  • omgggggggg this is show?? seria

    ???

  • 1:46. Um xD

  • I can't get over how happy he looks in the end :)

  • The movie version was "Hollywood" & didn't develop the characters or story due to time. The romance was too modern for the time.Elizabeth was flighty & girlish, not clever & witty. It was enjoyable but could not compare for authenticity. It's a matter of personal choice.I enjoyed both but the restraint of the characters in the 1995 version made you want to shout "Kiss her dammit". That's what made the kiss at the end so special.Firth has a deserved Oscar & proved his talent before & since P&P.

  • The point a lot of people seem to miss is that each version was made with a different audience in mind. People in the 19th century were VERY restricted in their behaviour & not allowed to show emotion. That was done very well by Firth & Ehle. Firth didn't even have to speak because he could emote so much with his eyes & body. Standards of beauty also differed.Having them run at each other smooching would have been out of the question.Great acting & true to the book.LOVED Firth, Ehle & Bamber.

  • I'm inlove with Mr. Darcy.. :)

    LOL

  • I go all gooey when I see Lizzy and Darcy kiss ... It's like we've been waiting for it all the way through... And then FINALLY!!! lol I <3 colin Firth as Darcy he's the best by far :P haha

  • i very much prefer the ending with Keira Knightly and Matthew Macfadyen on teh balcony. Its so romantic and lovely. But this one is good too.

  • @NhelJust But not according to Jane Austen!

  • Please can the BBC tell me why they cut the scene in the wedding where Darcy looks at Lizzie? I had hoped it would be re-instated in the re-conditioned dvd, but no. All I have is the Daily Mail give-away, where this sweet scene is included. Please re-instate it in future versions!

  • @AlpineWilfy You seem to labor under the misapprehension that a story that has a happy ending is both unrealistic and automatically trivial. There is nothing contrived about two characters awkwardly, painfully working towards happiness together. I also fail to see how Darcy tragically becoming a social outcast or Elizabeth dying in obscurity would make this story greater. Life can be looked at through many lenses, and wearing shades obscures one's vision every bit as much as rose-tinted glasses.

  • gostaria dofilme orgulho e preconceito de 1995 todo legendado, por favor será que poderia conseguir isso para mim pq aqui só uma pequena parte e legendado

  • 27 people have no idea of what romanticism and love is like!

  • I lije bingley more! Hes such a good guy! Adorable

  • End with other actors looks so FAKE.

  • oh dear God, that kiss we have been waitng for so long - oh to be the love of Mr Darcy

    .

  • BECOME A FAN OF PERIOD DRAMA MOVIES ON FACEBOOK!! :)

  • Jennifer Ely is British and the film is so powerful because of her subtle acting and the chemistry between her and Colin Firth. She doesn't get the merit she deserves for this.

  • @AlpineWilfy Austen herself later called P&P more of a fairytale book than some of her others. But you have to take into account that her social class only allowed her to write about these things and she would have been protected from the 'real world'. Austen wrote what she knew and did it brilliantly, that she never had the chance to tackle meatier topics was a fault of the times.

  • as "holywood" as the kiss was, i looooooooooooved it and i think it was a brilliant way to finish the movie and satisfy girls searching for their own darcy! (ie me.. ha)

  • ohhhh caroline's face at 1:53 XDDD

  • i fucking love bingly

  • @pipsrocks123 Bingley is so frigging awesome!!! I love how he's ALWAYS SMILING.

  • AHHH..I love this scene!!!!

  • Mr. Collins. haha What a creep.

  • @BrotherAtticus Sorry! I did not mean to dislike it. I moved the mouse to far! I VERY MUCH LIKE IT!!!!!

  • That last kiss makes me cry! OH, SO FREAKING CUTE!

  • "This truly is the best version I have ever known (1995)"

  • "This truly is the best version I have ever known (1995)"

  • Whoa Lady Catherine De Bourgh looks pissed.

  • "This man and this woman;and this man and thís woman." :D

  • okay i cried

    i love happy endings

  • Jane Austen was one of the finest English novelists, great writer and film.

  • EPIC SQUEE at the kiss

Sorry, I'm a hopeless romantic xD

  • aww nice to see darcy smile!! such a rare occurence :) <3

  • lizzie's dad is really lovely. very modern of him not to force his daughters into marriages they dont wanna be in

  • ): i dont really like double weddings.

or weddings in general really. hope that will change on my wedding day.

  • whoa are u kidding? colin firth pretty much has the most awesome british accent i've ever heard... it's so smooth and ROYAL!!!! (no references intended)

  • Jane and Bingley are gonna have really happy children :)

  • Mr Darcy is the ultimate romantic hero and Colin Firth is first class in the role.

Every girl should have a Mr Darcy in her life. I just hope mine is yet to come.

Preferably with Colin Firth in the role. No other man comes a close second.

  • @mrssyringa I can not wait to meet him.

  • @mrssyringa this serie is awsome and certaintly loove colin flirth but there´s something about mcfayden that drives me crazy....

  • Sorry! Gorgeous

  • Best kiss ever. Colin is gourgeos and that was the best scene ever. I love when Jane and Bingley get in the carriage and she looks like: OK let's get down to business :)

  • I love this version... and the music is so beautiful... *.*

  • NO MR DARCY! MARRY ME!

  • This ending is so much better cinsidering th sappy, and frankly in my opinion, gross American ening in the 2005 film

  • @HarryPotterismyhome I love the 2005 American ending!!!!

  • @SillyRamaBubbles Well I guess it could be romantic... I just found it very hard to look at the very sexual scene. I mean I don't like them in any movie much. This ending is perfect for my taste, I didn't need all the smooching and repeating of the word "Mrs. Darcy" over and over as he kissed various parts of her face. lol know what I mean? :)

  • @HarryPotterismyhome that Mrs.Darcy repeated is only in the us version watch the uk version it ends before that but the 2005 version is the better ever!!

  • @cherie310 In my comment I said the AMERICAN ending in the 2005 film :) I haven't seen the UK ending but I really want to! It's not on youtube though, if it is I can't find it. :(

  • @HarryPotterismyhome The UK ending wasn't any different, the only difference is that in the american version they added the extra scene, the uk version ended after mir bennet gives darcy and lizzie his blessing:)

  • @HarryPotterismyhome Yeah I understand. :) To Americans that "smooching" scene was very innocent though lol. I found it super sweet haha.

  • @SillyRamaBubbles haha I AM American :) I thought it was too much. lol

  • i wish this was my life.

  • I like the 'getting consent for marriage' scene much better in the 2005 version. There's much more emotion.

  • HEY NO MORE COLLIN FIRTH VS MATTHEW MCFAYDEN.

Everyone has their own personal Mr.Darcy so don't ruin it with real-life celebs!

imo I prefer Matthew b/c he just portrayed Mr.Darcy more closely to the way I imagined him than collin...

  • The film junkie in me adores the new version of P&P. The cinematography in that movie is spectacular. It's such a visually pleasing movie. But the literature junkie in me adores the old version because it sticks to the book much better and doesn't seem to leave out as much as the new one does.

  • @katharpatter

Would you please elaborate regarding the scenes you found so aesthetically pleasing in the 2005 movie? Coz it was difficult for me to look past the dung heap, piles of mud, undercarriage of a pig, claustrophobic ballrooms, morose and grey scenery, buckets of rain and bizzare art scupltures to name a few. So I might have missed something which was visually spectacular in all the dirt. Some help would be appreciated.

  • @geneliatalk If you can't look past that then you're missing out on so much. The shots that they had in that movie are stunning. The last scene with the sun captured between them. The way they show the quietness and everyday life of the Bennets. The amazing landscaping shots, which seemed to dipicite the time period, the Bennet's stature, characters' mood, and feel of the story so wonderfully. They were "morose and grey" for a reason.

  • @geneliatalk The dirt and pigs showed the Bennet's life and the way of life at the time, much better than the older version did. And it's England, it's going to rain. And I'm sure that some one else might think the sculptures as fine pieces of art. And I'm so glad they filmed the confrontational scene in a folly, something that was used in landscaping around that time period so often. I hope that this clears up a few things on why I though it was visually pleasing.

  • @katharpatter

Sorry to intrude but thats just a few(3-4 at the most) scenes in the entire movie which were "visually pleasing" as you so put it. The rest of the time the inaneness of the scenes is abundantly evident. However I found that the scenery is of crucial importance in the 2005 movie as it distracts you from the "acting" on display. So yeah kudos to the cinematographer.

  • @sm2481 There were most certainly more than 3-4 scenes that were amazing and used the visual effect of movies to the fullest extent. But that may just be my opinion . . . And I personally thought the acting was quite good in both the movies. The 1995 one had much better dialogue and more interactions between minor characters, while the 2005 focused more on lizzy and darcy (probably due to time).

  • @katharpatter

Like I said 2005 makes the best use of a camera lens. The sheer amount of close-ups and continuous spins tells you the cinematographer was gunning for the awards.Moving on to the acting sure there were time constraints but portraying Mr.Darcy as wretched with absolutely no noble mien and Elizabeth as petulant doesn't quite cut it especially as Lizzie is supposed to be the one who keeps her head while all about her (Mrs.Bennet,Lady Catherine,Darcy,Lydia etc) are losing theirs.

  • @katharpatter

As for the rest of the cast including Dame Judi Dench, Donald Sutherland and Wickham who looks freakishly like Legolas just posture for paychecks.

  • @sm2481

    LOL "posturing for paychecks".Nice.

  • @katharpatter

After 10 years at least something should have gotten better.Looks like it was the locations and the camera lens.Fanatastic!!

  • @katharpatter Thanks for the run down of the scenes. But to "look past" the sheer asinine depiction of some of them would be pointless.Regarding the Bennets- The dirt and the animals made so contiguous to the Bennets way of life which has been described as earthy/gritty/grimy (all just adjectives for dirt) lands up souring the charm of the middle class Bennets. The squalor or impoverished setting seems ridiculous especially with the presence of a maid and manservant in the house.

  • @katharpatter The "Its england=rain " comment is frankly absurd and false so moving on to the sculptures which were very museum-ish and quite bizzare. That leaves the morose and grey undertones for which I see no underlying reason. It lends a dreary, draggy and almost mournful look. The Bennets were poor but were definitely not depressed.

  • @katharpatter A few scenes eg the last one ,the temple one were good -not the acting or the script which was gag inducing but the locations. However for the verbal sparring scene, where Darcy and Eliza are upfront and honest with each other to the point of being brutal, I prefer the Parsonage. This is where the Collinses live and they have probably never spoken an honest word to each other under that very roof. The subtlety of the Parsonage over overt decoration definitely.

  • @geneliatalk I could explain how the folly (it wasn't a temple) was a good pick, but why bother. I have my opinion and you have yours, why should I try to ruin the beauty of two different views. That's what makes any art form so great, no one person really sees the same thing. Both movies are excellent for the only reason that they are based an Jane Austen's novel, which has still managed to capture an audience after being almost 200 years old. If that's not amazing, then I don't know what is.

  • @katharpatter I beg to differ. The 1995 version has its flaws but is far superior for the simple reason that it acknowledges that Jane Austen got it right the first time around and that there was no need to 'ham up' a timeless piece of work. As for the temple comment I read that it was a Neo-classical temple or mausoleum or something. My apologies if I am wrong but the 'Subtlety of the parsonage over overt decoration' comment still stands :)

  • I love get this on dvd for birthday! Don't you wish non days people had manners.

  • Tho I thoroughly enjoyed this version I feel as if something is missing... Perhaps its that I don't see a connection between the characters ... I much preffered the version with Keirs and Matthew macfadyen

  • He is Mr. Darcy but I want Keira for Lizzy!

  • i wuv how happy darcy finally is :3

  • I'm from France. I've red the book in french at first and then in english. I saw all the BBC versions, the version with Keira, the bollywod and also the american one from the 50ties. I stil find that this version is the one which gets closer to the book.

  • mmmhhhh!! not sure how to put this.. but something is missing....

  • 0:01

  • @flaybob1 First of all Colin Firth is actually British and therefore can not have a bad accent. It is how he naturally talks. He is by far the best Mr. Darcy ever. While Jennifer is not British her accent is quite good and if you hadd ever actually seen the movie you would know that.

  • @harrypotterlover89 the mr. darcy in the 2005 is better

  • @cherie310 far from it! Colin Firth is the best Mr. Darcy by far!!!

  • @harrypotterlover89 She spoke with a British accent when she received her BAFTA for Pride and Prejudice. Have you ever heard her speak with an American accent?

  • @harrypotterlover89

...I have a British friend, and his accent is absolutely horrible...

But he's a true honest-to-goodness British gentleman... well at least to the girls ;)

  • @harrypotterlover89 Jennifer is actually half British (her mother) and lived in England during her childhood

  • @harrypotterlover89 Jennifer Ehle's mother is English actress, Rosemary Harris. Jennifer was brought up bi-lingual (if we can call it that!), both English and American, so switches between accents very easily. She has also had much experience in English theatre.

  • @flaybob1 You should get a prize for the most hilariously ignorant comment in this thread.

  • I love the book. I red it several times and i must say taht this version is the best of all. The actors are exactly like the caracters in the book what isn't the fact in the 2005 version. Keira Knightley is a bad Elizabeth Bennet.

  • @cosettesb where are you from... Keira is by far the best Elizabeth they have made in the many versions of Pride and prejudice they make almost every year... even bollywood.... :-0

  • I totaly should have been born in the 1800s! Romance is totally my thing!

  • @charm229 But think about the fact that most people in this century had to marry for money, especially women had a hard time since only the sons were permitted to inherit the stuff parents left behind. So reality sadly wasn't often like these movies/books :(

  • @DemyxAxel123459 That is true, maybe I will just be in a movie set in the 1800s, most of them end good.

  • @charm229 Yes, I would like that too :D I just love their clothes and the nature and all that in these films! ^^

  • @DemyxAxel123459 I know! Though corsets ore probably pretty uncomfortable.

  • i prefer the 2005 version but why don't we never ever see bingley and jane kissing?

  • @baliasuncrest27 it is because in all of jane austin's book she never writes about physical interaction due to it being improper in the times in which she livedd in

  • mhh i think keira is much better

  • Both remakes are charming in their own way. The clumsiness of both Mr. Darcy's are the perfect example of how you can interpret a part and still make a beautiful character either way. It's amazing in how many ways you can tell the same story :-).

  • I say this is the ONLY and BEST Pride & Prejudice EVER!

  • The other one had better acting

  • @GothicCity13 No - that is not true. The other one is planning and acting to receive attention - but Colin IS Mr. Darcy - he does not act!!!

  • I must say that I like Matthew better has Mr Darcy, but I love Colin in Bridget Jones diary!!!!

  • @duckyduck020389 Would Matthew fit in this series? I mean, if Colin was the only one to be replaced in this cast, by Matthew if you like, would the series still be as beautiful of maybe more beautiful than it is with Colin? My personal opinion (if you care to know, actually) is that they both fit in their own role of Mr. Darcy, but that they both would not fit in each other's role.

And I also liked Colin very much in Bridget Jones :D

  • Love this version! :D

  • i dont like this one her and his preformes is horrid

  • I have to say I prefer the kiera version better. Both are probably equally good, but the kiera one's final scene is heart-warming and she just portrays elizabeth better in my mind.

  • the2005 one has soooo much love and sooo much emotion

  • Kiera Knightley is a much better Elizabeth Bennett. This one's too smiley, sweet. I prefer the 2005 one, better acting, scenery but this one is older afterall. I like the detail :)

  • What a beautiful wedding ceremony.

  • Aww, Mr.Darcy`s smile...So Beautiful!!

  • (sigh) how i love weddings.

  • @Bubbletea116 hihi they always make me longing for another xD

  • Colin Firth is the best Mr. Darcy but I do have to give Mathew kudos. He's pretty good too =) I love the 1995 version of Pride & Prejudice a lot better than the 2005 version. It was longer & more detailed. The 2005 just wasn't long enough. But I did see the 1995 version first. That might have somethin to do with it. After seeing Colin Firth I fell in love & knew that was the kind of man I hoped to marry. Unrealistic nowadays but a girl can still hope...right =)

  • @pearberriezz101 I am quite certain Mr. Darcy has ruined my taste in men.

  • @yougotnopancakemix i totally agree with you...quite difficult to find a man like that these days =/

  • @yougotnopancakemix Not only yours, my friend, not only yours.... Once you hear this, how can you ever fall for a pick-up line like "Heaven must be missing an angel, cause one stands here right before me!" (Ad to that, the guy being drunk) in comparison with Darcy's proposal?

  • @annabelkoen2bestever How to I find a tall, dark, and handsome GENTLEMAN? This will be difficult

  • @yougotnopancakemix If not impossible... *sigh* we just gotta keep hoping i guess...

  • @annabelkoen2bestever Keep the hope

  • @yougotnopancakemix i'm ruined too.

  • i prefer the 2005 version but i do like how well this version follows the book :)

  • The Perfect Kiss At The End! <3

  • This is the best version of Pride and Prejudice!

  • I prefered the Donald Sutherland as her father i think

  • mm i want colin.

What a sweet and gentle kiss in the end! :)

  • @Lemontree23 for a moment i thought you said mr. collins and i was like O.O...i do quite agree with you though;)

  • I find it amusing how adamant some people are about which version is better. It truly depends on how you imagined the book, so obviously not everyone is going to agree. Some may have imagined Mr. Darcy the way Colin Firth portrayed him, and others Matthew Macfadyen. There is no definitive answer as to which one is better, at least in my opinion. :)

  • this version is really crap

  • @laurenni1 Then why are you watching it?

  • @loesje91 i wanted to see what it was like and i only watched the end so i was prejudging ( hahaha) and i watched the whole thing recently and loved it so i apologise

  • @laurenni1 Haha then I guess you viewed this adaptation the same way Lizzy viewed Darcy ;)

  • @loesje91 yeah, id been so used to seeing the other version and all the character, but i do think the scene with her dad is a lot better in the other film

  • @laurenni1 I tooooooooooooooooooootally agreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • I think the other version has a better cast. Colin Firth is perfect, but as for the rest of the cast, i think the movie is better..

  • Darcy is so serious at the wedding!

  • @vasssie hahahaha plus hes next to bingley, who is ALWAYS smiling:)<3

  • Pride & Prejudice, I love to read Jane Austen Novels and also I am fond of viewing Movies besed on Jane Austen's Novels.

  • I like what the holy man says during the wedding. That's a real good speech and pretty much wraps up what marriage is about when it is done for all the right reasons. Does anyone know where I can get a minister to speak like that at my wedding?

  • I think both Darcy's are good, but Colin Firth, is the best.

  • I like the other Lizzy than this one.

  • 3.08 you see mary smile for once in the back round. :)

  • I have to Say watching clips from the BBC Pride and Prejudice....the actors don't show the emotions for the scenes as due the Actors from the 2005 Pride and Prejudice. I was not drawn into each scene as I was with the 2005 edition. I love this movie and have watched it more than I can count. A true ROMANCE!

  • @TheTwilightessence I understand what you mean but in my opinion this is the better for the simple reason that neither Darcy or Elizbath are meant to show too much emotion because they are repressed by their respective Pride and Prejudice. In fact the only characters that show too much emotion are the Bennett sisters and Mrs Bennett which is why they are ridiculous. Plus I much prefer the kiss at the end because we've been waiting six hour for it and it's so beautiful and simple.

  • @TheTwilightessence I agree in some ways but feel you cannot compare the 2 versions easily. The 1995 series follows Jane Austen's book rather strictly, this is how society was organised. One did not wrap one's arms around the neck of the object of one's affection... The BBC series is an absolutely perfect P&P, perfect casting and acting. The 2005 film with Matthew and Keira was made with a current heart, it is an excellent version if you want to lose yourself in romance.

  • i love pride and prejudice, but this tv series is damn well horrible, the 2005 is way better. better dialogue and just more believable. you feel the emotions more in the 2005 adaption. this series just hasnt got it right...

  • @erinanneglew I THINK THIS MORE LIKE THE BOOK. AND YOU´RE WRONG ABOUT THT THE MOVIE IS MORE BELIEVABLE. IIN THIS SERIE YOU CAN SEE HOW REALLY WAS THE SOCIETY THAT DESCRIBES JANE AUNTEN IN HER BOOKS

  • @meriananizer i just that the b grade actors and shit sets make the series a bit crap. the movie shows true emotions of the characters and how hard it was for lizzie, i can feel for lizzie and darcy much more in the movie than in this series . to me it doesnt get it right. and theres no need to TEXT SHOUT!

  • I loved both Colin and Mathew playing the role of Mr Darcy. I think actor both actors brought their own charisma and sensual appeal to our TV screens. I adored both adaptations.

Well done to both Colin and Mathew.

  • I really prefer Matthewas Mr. Darcy he stole my heart and he continues doing that in every actiong role he perfoms, I don't mean by saying that Collin is not a good actor, indeed he is, however, I feel more passion in his Girl with a pearl earing acting role,

  • @monijuanpaco Mathew captured my heart as well... he is a great actor and was so handsome as mister Darcy I think that It will be hard for a man to live up too! I like Colin but I though he did a better job playing Mark Darcy in Bridgets Jones Diary

  • This might be weird, but has anyone ever felt like they should have lived in another time?
