While mining in my own home, I went through a similar event. I was mining down when water spilled through, blocking it off I thought to myself believing I wouldn't ever find Iron, albeit for one random piece of iron on the shaft's wall. As I in another direction a large cave lied bellow. Thinking it was only 5-6 blocks deep I fell about 11-12 blocks, I somehow survived and found iron everywhere! With a quick search through the near by caves I found 33 iron ores, I'm hoping to find even more...
