  • @Rodymeister1 i'm not arguing that he let out at the end, but up until then you Clearly hear boost and the z06 is walking. sure the impreza seems to have better low speed accel but judging by the vettes rpms at 01:50 he started in the wrong gear most of the time. dream on? at 02:01 he was clearly making up ground. don't be biased, just be honest.

  • @customcaddys, the Vette try's in 2e en 3e gear and in 2e gear it was a bit quicker, but still nog quick enough.

    The one that's filming is me, so i sat in the Impeza and in the Vette and the guy in the Vette is really trying to be quicker, but The Impreza beats him because of it's shorter gears......both cars has about the same hp.

    At 2:01 min. the Impreza shift to his 5e gear and then the Vette comes a bit closer.....till he has to shift to his 5e gear at 2.11.

  • They were driving about 270 à 280 km/h at that point and i don't think the Impreza could hold it much longer from then.....at the speed of 290 à 300 km/h the Vette would win the batlle, because of it's better CW-waarde[i don't know how to say it in English ;) ]

  • @Rodymeister1 jep ik heb dan zelf een C5 helemaal standaard, automaat, en heb op de A31 in duitsland 287 op de gps gehaald (maasvlakte is daarvoor te kort), dat is behoorlijk indrukwekkend voor slechts 350 pk, maar komt idd door gewicht, gearing, cw. De z06 is zelfs nog 45kg lichter:P als je daar een twin turbo op doet dan heb je echt een niet normaal snel ding:P

  • @RandyMedion, gewicht heeft niet zoveel invloed op de topsnelheid, maar wel op de acceleratie.......versnellings­bakverhoudingen en CW-waarde hebben wel weer invloed op de topsnelheid.

    Dat is ook waarom die Sub hier sneller is...z'n versnellingsbakverhoudingen zijn korter, het motorvermogen is ongeveer gelijk en dan heeft de Sub nog iets meer aandrijfverliezen door de AWD.

  • It's a bullshit video. The Zo6 beats Porsche, Ferrari f430, Gallardo, and other known fast cars. You can't tell me this little rice rocket is winning. Look at the last race, see how the vette pulls forward but then seems to slow down to allow the other guy to catch up, then it just goes ahead and passes him up. It would have been nice to beat the vette, I know.

  • Haha its all power to weight and the old wrx is very light and most likely has more chp than the vette. Raising boost pressure on a smaller engine can push its displacement way above a n/a car. I have a 95impreza with a 97 2L jdm wrx engine with forge internals and its ridiculously quick. I can only imagine what moving up to 2.5liters and running more boost is going to do.

  • turbo that zo6 and see what happens. even without bolt ons...vettes rule. the only thing the impereza has is awd. and a light cheap motor.

    The problem is the Vette isn't turbo'd. Twin turbo the Impreza and see what happens. It could go both ways.

  • Reason why I would prefer the Impreza is because it is cheaper. The Vette Z06 already is about forty grand. Both are fast cars and can be heavily modified. If you have the wallet you can trick out a vette up to 800 to 1000 hp. Same thing goes for the Impreza. In the end you wind up spending less for the impreza and can get just as much power. I like both. Vette will always be american classic. For my price range I go with Impreza easily. Plus its lighter and handles better.

  • Beide auto's hadden hier ongeveer net zoveel vermogen[+/- 520 pk], waarbij de Vette voordeel had van minder aandrijfverliezen door de RWD tegenover de Sub AWD en de Sub had 't voordeel van iets minder gewicht en kortere overbrengingen.

    Vooral door dat laatste punt is de Sub gewoon sneller met de tussenacceleratie's, maar puur op topsnelheid wint de Vette.

    Ik denk dat de Sub 't bij ongeveer 300 km/h wel gehad heeft en de Vette gaat dan nog door tot ongeveer 325 km/h.

  • Suby's are nice cars don't get me wrong. They are damn fast and I've been hammered by a few of them coming off the line. However, you can't be taken seriously when you pull up in your Suby at the country club. The Corvette is a status symbol. It's expensive for a reason. Sure it's hoity toity, sure you can put your money to better use elswhere, but if you want to turn the right kind of heads, those above 29 yrs of age, you buy a Corvette.   • Its funny the mention of fuel economy on the vette. Slap another two differntials and some front axles on there and the mileage won't be so great. HOWEVER i used to own a import and mini truck shop. funny thing about this is the suby prob still has 1/2 of the money in it that the zo6 does stock. so money for money srry the import wins. besides vettes are for old fucks in a midlife crisis. personally id take the suby

  • Yeah I soppose what the impreza looses in transmission losses it makes up for in shorter gearing. When a standard one races another car of about equel power and torque, it jumps ahead off the line then that gap is usually maintaind until the impreza reaches its top speed. Then the FWD or RWD car will usually have a about a 10 mph higher top speed because of the imprezas shorter gearing

  • I think the topspeed of the Z06 will be about 30 km/h higher, that's almost 20 m/ph.

    In the test from the movie the topspeed of both cars was about 280 km/h à 290 km/h, then they thougt it was enough. ;)

  • I was going to say the dumb azz Z06 driver isn't even in the right part of his powerband when he races. On the second to last race he must have been at 2500 cuz it took forever to shift. On the very last race you could see he was in the right rpm and if he shifted a little better he would have been right there with the Impreza. Fast Impreza no doubt but better driving by the Z06 and it should pull.

  • s2000 arent fast but not that fast... not fast enough to brag about them.. granit its a 2liter with like 240hp but thats probably almost maxing out that 2liter n/a without some major modifications... iv seen a n/a honda with around 300whp but it wasnt running on pump gas cuz of too high of compression...

    You mean you'd like to own one? That's all it takes. My 2001 Z06 was EPA rated at 18/28. I AVERAGE 26.x MPG all the time. Instant is 30 on the highway. You have to go really fast to only get 28 on the highway.

    Yeah, that's why I said MY 2001. The LS6 C5 gets better MPG than the LS7 C6. It should, seeing that it's short 100hp and 1.3 liters.

    Efficient in what way? The C6Z06 is the first 500hp car to not have a gas guzzler tax. That means there are NO other cars with 500hp that get better mpg. And I don't know of any 400hp cars that get 18/28 like the C5Z06. So at least as far as fuel economy, I think it actually IS the most efficient way.

  • When it comes to performance, a N/A car making 500hp will stomp a Turbo car making 500hp all other things being equal. The Subaru was simply making more power than the Vette. It's a Chevy vs Subaru thing.

    For a given amount of power, an N/A car will be lighter, have better front/rear wieght distribution, have less failures, internal parts will be under less stress and heat therefor living longer, and power deliverly is even and linear. N/A is the way to go if you can get the power you want.

    False. Does that Imprezza weigh 3800 lbs? Does the GTR beat the Z06 on the race track? Yes. But tests so far show they are neck and neck on the drag strip. Only because of the AWD launch. AWD is useless on highway pulls. 480hp/3800 lbs < 505hp/3150 lbs. Physics don't lie my friend. :)

  • What does this prove? You can put a ton of mods in virtually any turbo car and make it fast. I'd still rather have a Z06 than a old STi with a bunch of mods. Much respect to the guys who did the mods on it though, it is pretty cool. All this really proves is that the Z06 has become a yardstick for fast cars.
