  • youve got some coarse ass hair from the sounds of it

  • I'm a newbie and I want to start honing my razor, what can you suggest on what to get, like stones etc. to make my razor sharp again besides stropping. Thanks.

  • @llanbull check out my tutorials here for an explanation of what you need

  • cool tutorial, also nice watch.

is that Seiko Monster Orange on steel bracelet ?

  • Good video. I did learn something.

  • 3:43 wouldn't it be funny if someone is making a video, cutting himself and bleeding out........... damn, those straight razors are so fucking sharp! One has to be really careful/skilled in the movements.

    Good videos.

  • Jockeys! That was a great tutorial. It looks like you got a fabulous shave. However, compared to your big, chub, baby-face with rounded neck, I have a very hallow face and steep neck (I'm 18 yrs old, 6'3" and a skinny 190 lbs), will a sharper razor and a better angle really be my solution to a better, less irritating straight razor shave on my neck?

  • @mdtm16 double edge safety razor is much easier to handle (with few exercice) and (!) you don't need to pay that much attention regarding care (honing, stropping etc.) compared to the straight razor (and it is cheaper). A good safety razor (merkur etc.) with good blades and real shaving foam would be my "everyday shaving" advice.

  • Damn you make it look so easy ! I've tried it several times & cut myself again & again. I did the prep work I ordered a razor that was professionally honed & sharpened. Is it possible that it's too sharp ??

  • @Johnnyboy792 too sharp, no not possible. not smooth enough, entirely possible. a razor can be sharp without being smooth, for instance even after honing at only 1200 grit or so I *CAN* shave with the razor (i.e. it's sharp enough) but it's not nearly smooth enough. that's what high grit hones, pasted strops and eventually linen and leather are for, to smooth the edge and keep it from being irritating to the skin. also, your angle and pressure could be off if you are getting cut a lot.

  • @jockeys41 Thanks Buddy. I'll give it another try ! Where's the Neosporin :0)

  • masters!

  • damn that's loud!

  • 1:54 HNGGGH horizontal cut. Great video.

  • HAHAHA, golly dude. youre a professional! im just about to join the s. razor world.....how long you been doing this?? and I have NEVER heard of multi shaves like that...CRAZY...thanks for posting....any tips for new guys??

  • @evanhornsby I have been shaving exclusively with the straight for about 5 years now. for more tips on stropping and honing, see my other videos.

  • I love the fact that when you get to 2:14 you can hear a sawing sound as he passes the razor. Brilliant. This is some really good advice here I just started out and I got really nasty skin irritaion. At first I thought it was the blade but then I tried it on my arm hairs and it was just like nothing. I went straight down my arm and removed a whole strip and though "Fuck, now I have to shave this and the other arm too". So I guess that its just the technique and the pressure then I need to work.

  • SO I have been straight razor shaving for a little while(no shave November out of the way) and I still am rough, and have a pretty ghetto set up(like you might hate me ghetto set up) But I still get some pretty rough razor burn, but I think this and some other videos really will help. Thanks Jockeys!

  • Hi jockey. Thanks for that advice. I have just ordered a Dovo with changeable blade as I thought this may be a Better bet for starting. Now I know where I can get some good advice I will work my way up. I will let you know how I get on. Hopefully won't get to many cuts. Thanks again jockey.

  • What a really informative video. I am about to start using straight razors so very useful form. Must admit the slanting strokes makes me a tad nervous. Thanks again

  • @chefdemarty the slanting strokes are an advanced technique. start out just doing your cheeks with the basic stroke, and finish your shave with your normal disposable. once you have built up confidence with the straight, you can add in the chip, upper lip and neck.

  • I have no idea why u need to shave so many times over the same area.. whats the point??.. its grown back already after a few hours anyway! Way too much fuss here. Im not even able to shave against the grain at all, no matter what technique.. BURN!!

  • @ameliatom999 when you get a proper shave (for example at a proper barber's), it will last for a week.

  • @voraistos no way, maybe for your hair growing speed...

  • why dont you just grow ur beard untill it feels like soft fur then shave youll look way cleaner and not have that grey look and youll only need to do 1 pass.

  • man U GOOOOOD !!!!!

    thnx bro

  • You make shaving the neck look so easy :-/

  • this was a excellent video thanks!

  • The angle of the atg pass on the neck looks scaringly steep...

  • I use an angle similar to his. In fact, it may even be a bit steeper.

For the record, all my razors are incredibly sharp and honed by professionals much more knowledgeable than myself, so there are no issues there.

I think that the prerequisite templates for angles are a little overrated. I get no razor burn or irritation, so all's good.

That brings us down to the bottom-line of wetshaving: If it works, do it. If it doesn't, don't.

  • I would have said the same until today when I tried a similar angle and it worked wonders for me.

  • 'Scything' is very effective yet you should have a little bit of experience. xD
