Some years ago I had the privilege of attending a masterclass with Carlo Bergonzi at the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. I don't pretend to be an expert in singing, but all I can say is that after half an hour or so good singers sounded like great singers.

il mestro dovrebbe essere in grado anche di far sentire dov'è lo sbaglio dell'emissione,e correggerla, troppo facile far sentire una frase con una voce che va bene per lui, che è stata impostata per la sua gola con gli anni di teatro. se non correggi gli sbagli di emissione è denaro e tempo perso. io non posso fare a meno di ringraziare infinitamente Bergonzi perche grazie a Lui e alle sue registrazioni ho potuto cantare anche opere fuori dal mio repertorio, tipo Ernani ,Aida, Trovatore e altre. Yes, this was a Master Class but (maybe I'm wrong here), Bergonzi was too generous (I think the young singer was v v nervous). His evidenced support didn't produce improvement but it was a joy to watch him demonstrate how the aria should be delivered. Teaching is an art but how to bring the art to a fruition state in a student takes an unknown quality, not easy to come by! Tx.

@Bigman240 I agree with you, but this is not the case, he is telling her exactly what to do, maybe she was nervous. Sometimes we singers understand what we need to do, but our body needs a little more time to do it. That is the beauty of Arts.
