I have not listened to lot of Salieri's pieces, but this sounds beautiful. I love Mozart's music very much, and comparing them would be too narrow of a point. They are different, and that difference makes them both special. The movie, is that: Just a movie. Let's enjoy them both. Composition is special, because it makes individuals trascend trough their music. Greetings. ♪♫
Yes, people who like Mozart PRETEND to have musical knowledge. That is why theory classes always analyze mozart pieces and not Salieri pieces. I don't know how you can say Mozart is Muzak... haven't you heard any of his Operas or his Requiems? He's clearly a master of musical construction. Yet again, I'm not saying Salieri is awful, but there's a reason why Mozart is more famous.
@jfbecks17: Artists are just like stars, some shines more then others @ the end they're all the same, I can say I have a little musical knowledge but that doesn't stop me from feeling the music at its fullest... personally I love Mozart, Salieri, Tchaikovski n Bach, they are from different eras yeah but theyr music have something I cant describe that amaze me... unfortunately I cannot say the same about Beethoven, Strauss, Paganini's work BUT I think they are great musicians. All'bout taste
Sencillamente hermoso y conmovedor, las composiciones de Salieri me llegan al alma e interpretada esta bella aria en la voz de Bartoli es maravilloso!
Salieri fucking rocks! He was not a genious like Mozart, genious are just a very few people in the history and in the world. Salieri is a lovable composer, and he didn't kill Mozart. The movie Amadeus is just another Hollywood's invention. I hate that we can't talk about Salieri without comparing him with Mozart.
I think those who say Salieri was not a good composer don't understand the significance of Mozart's work, and just how revolutionary it was at the time. It's easy to criticize Salieri by comparing him to Mozart, but that is not how his work should be judged.
In fact, the briliance of composers like Bach, Mozart and Beethoven likely overshadowed many of their contemporaries and it is right that while we continue to admire these musical geniuses, the work of lesser known composers is being brought to light. It makes for a richer collection of music that we have the chance to listen to and a better understanding of musical history.
I do agree with saying that this is a masterpiece. Salieri wrote this in his twenties I believe. The 1st melody lasts for 1.15 without ever repeating itself. The singing was made for virtuosi only. The rythm is incredible. It almost sounds like contemporary pop music. You could rap on it if you wanted. If that's not called avant garde! The bridge is a perfect variation of the theme and brings you to this incredible end with the use of syncopations! And Mozart can't be compared to anybody anyway!
Salieri seems to have kept all of the more tedious aspects of the Baroque period (sequence after sequence) and uses classical technique albeit in an immature way. His thematic material is pretty weak and never reaches any sort of exciting, unexpected, or avant garde writing here.
Comparing Mozart to Salieri, Salieri sounds like the stuff Mozart was writing when he was around 14. At least Mozart used chromaticisms in a fun and interesting way... They are almost absent in this song.
Alright.... it seems to make sense. An excellent critique- supported by facts and all.
You have to remember that Mozart was a bit of a crazy composer for the time period, though... he was innovative and most obviously an amazing genius. If he would have lived longer, I'm most sure that he would have changed music in a most drastic manner- however, he had to die to make way for Beethoven, hence that was Beethoven's role in the musical world, not Mozart's, despite his apparent potential.
Of course Mozart was crazy! That's why he was great. And yes, I think about that the exact same way, he wrote some really interesting music in his later years, but since he died Beethoven came and finished what Mozart started.
Mozart is terribly overrated by people who pretend to have a knowledge of music. If I was stuck on a desert island and had to choose between a CD f Mozart's music and a CD of Salieri's I'd choose Salieri's. His music stands up to repeated listenings better than Mozart's does. Mozart is 18th century Muzak. My humble opinion anyway.
You cannot criticize music of another era with modern ears and sentiments. Mozart was another generation and of course was greatly innovative...but Salieri was THE master of the classical style and every composer from far and wide, including Beethoven, came to study with him. What he did for vocal music was unmatched during his time and his he mastery of prosody and theatrical drama was what inspired composers like Mozart to take things further. Salieri was not the pioneer, but the catalyst.
I completely disagree! I think this is one of the most inspiring pieces of music I've ever heard! And yes, I like Mozart more than anything! (Except bach maybe hahaha)
Chromatism is a good thing and diatonism a bad one???????
This is not about ethics, but of enjoing music. And this music is fully enjoyable. Please stop comparing Mozart and Salieri. Salieri, as most composers has a value of his own. Open your mind to see beauty.
Chromaticism is tension which is resolved by diatonicism, a feeling of rest.
What creates the feeling of excitement in music is this feeling of tension, also known as chromaticism. Of course what's chromatic and not is relative to each person.
maybe some people can listen to Palestrina all day, but I would get quite bored.
Anyway, this is why Mozart excites me more.
As I might state AGAIN I never said Salieri was a bad composer, I merely think Mozart is better.
This is in her Salieri album...Cecilia has as lot of talent people! She has a small voice but it's intense, powerful in its own way and full of coloratura that you don't hear these days..this aria is an example of the long forgotten music of Salieri...truly terrific stuff! Who can sing like this nowadays ? No one...maybe just DiDonato who specializes in Baroque
the way she hold that note in the beginning is awesome!!! also kind of sold me on the idea that she is a soprano with a richer and darker tone to her voice, or a mezzo with range of soprano...i really hope she take more soprano roles...her coloratura is second to none...Cecilia please sing Norma!!!
she could at least try Norma like Beverly Sills did but lots of people wouldnt like it or take it seriously....Norma is a BIG SOPRANO VOICE role and it's forever linked with Maria Callas...and Bartoli, great as she is, doesn't have a Maria Callas type voice...it's pretty small...it's just she does amazing thigns with what she has
it seems as though Norma was not first created for a soprano voice, but for a mezzo soprano voice. Everybody thinks it was made for a soprano, because famous soprano singers sang this role, but apparently it's not the case. Besides, Cecilia Bartoli sings "Casta Diva" on her Maria Malibran album, like it is originally supposed to be sung.

@am1966ath, yeah I'm actually seeing more recordings and performances of his music however not as many as I would like to see but it's good people is giving the recognition he deserves.
@Thrax1982 I absolutely agree with you..Salieris recordings have started to appear in the last 20years. There are certainly many more composers to be discovered by record-companies.
@mztguitar I have been a fan of Salieri since mid-80S..but finding something by him in the music shop is another matter...everywhere in Europe you will find lots of recordings of Mozart..Karl Bohm,Karajan,Galway etcetc.....The recordings by Salieri I found by chance..one in Andorra, one in Naples, two in Zurich but not even the shop attendent knew much about him..he was a genius whos music I find more interesting than Mozart.
I don't think so, not available online at least, I checked before posting - I try to keep the amount of commercially available stuff I upload to the minimum.
