I had a few chickens donated to me with the property I rent. The chickens weren't treated very nicely before but nothing compared to these birds. I have no plans to eat them and feed them very well and they run around and do as they wish. One chicken had two babies and they are now four months and still small and wiry. I have never fed them anything medicated and never will. They think of me like some sort of food angel when they see me and I cannot fathom hurting one. They are so trusting
I have no issues with eating animals which were raised in a healthy, no stress and clean environment.
But I have serious issues with animals being cross-breed in such a way which causes frequent congenital defects causing pain - and being raised in overcrowded and unhygienic conditions which cause pain, distress and premature death.
This is simply not acceptable and should be opposed to the point of stopping it through law.
@deanmullen10 you must be a stuck up in ur own world think u are better than anyone else bcuz u Dnt EAT MEAT..my niece was a beautifullll girl she met a dimwit girl who is vegan and guess what she got so skinny and ugly her face changed she had no energy i make sure that explain to my little girl not to listen to vegan girls that thier parents made them like that i want my little one to be beautifull and healthy,so she can have healthy children my niece looks like igor thanks to ppl like u
@80z90zhouzemuzicgrl what in the hell are you talking about? I never once said that vegeterians are better than anyone else, I was pointing out some moral reasons but if going vegeterian was unhealthy for her then it was justifiable for her to eat meat in order to be healthy, but you have to remember there r countless animals dying and going through pain out there and to use an excuse of guilt onto me isn't fair If I were to do that I could go on about how sum1 has become fat frm meat bt I wont
I've personally seen turkey farms w/ similar circumstances. Fortunately the farms I know do allow for an outside area so they can at least have some exercise (very little since leg problems are real). These farmers keep the doors open unless there is a major storm & do rake out the enclosure. This is at least humane treatment if not humane breeding. Many farmers are given specific poultry to raise and have no real say except how they take care of them. The company owns the meat from day 1.
"They never meet their mothers" Are they kidding? How can the people who made this tree-hugger nonsense fail to realize that the whole reason these animals hatched in the first place is so we could eat them. And wouldn't it be more cruel to let the chicks meet their mothers before they end up on the grill?
And yet you left the chick stuck in the feeder!?! Why video a disabled chick instead of the thousands that are not disabled. In all creatures some are born with issues.. What do you propose to do with human babies with developmental issues? Abort them?
Profitability requires a healthy animal.
The chickes out in the coop are walking in their poop too. How you gonna stop that?
in response to all the comments that humans need to eat meat to survive, I strongly disagree. I'm a vegetarian, 6 foot 1 and 170 pounds and I have 3 meals a day. These fucking bastards do what ever it takes to make money. And this comment applies to all the people that eat meat, say they love it, yet know where their meat is coming from.
Just so everyone knows organic meat does not mean the animal was treated any better. It just means that is was not pumped full of anitbiotics and such.
My ex grew up on a farm, shot things, gutted them, ate them. She was by no means sentimental about animals. She worked one day on a broiler unit and quit - and never ate cheap chicken again. My mate had bantams, and though they weren't exactly brainy, you couldn't imagine condemning them to a life crowded into a dark, stinking barn.
It doesn't have to be like this. Lower stocking levels, natural light, stuff for the birds to play with, and a slower growth rate would make a huge difference.
I'll tell you what... no matter how hard the first 45 days were, I bet they were better than the 46th HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I HAD CHICKEN FOR LUNCH!!!! yummy yummy.
I am noticing an ever widening gap between humans that have chosen to embrace the sanity of compassion and those who chose to cling to the insanity of numbness, calousness, apathy, and hostility. My consolation is that those who choose to embrace compassion also tend to exhibit greater general health, sharper intellect, are more reasonable, and are generally kinder of nature. As a result of this they also tend to live happier and longer lives. The final consolation is that caloused people are..
devolving themselves out of the genepool. Justice served. Although I recognize that such calousedness is merely a reflection of the environment that they grew up in. We all have the opportunity to change our environment should we desire to do so strongly enough.
These birds are a result of a cross between the Plymouth Rock, a heavy, fast growing breed... And the Cornish, a slow growing heavy breed. It doesn't know when to stop eating, and it grows too fast for its legs to support.
@WhisperwindPancake dude... what possibly other use is a chicken except for food? the world is broken down into two types of animals... Predator and Prey. you are either one or the other. you can easily identify the predator by their forward facing eyes, excellent vision, pointed teeth with thin enamel, and larger brain. Prey has eye's on the side of their head to give them a better field of vision to watch out, smaller brains, and thick enamel so the dirt dosent wear through. Which one are you?
@WhisperwindPancake so essentially you have no answer. you fall back on pure emotion. we are predators. we are meat eaters. we are not prey. (at least most of us). you make your own decisions, dont condemn me for holding true to my biology.
@jjuge The problem isnt eating the meat, but how the animal is treated before we consume it. There are other ways of rearing without the cruelty- the cruelty is not needed, and for you to say dont fall back on emotion- shows no concern for the health of the animal or the health of yourself. They are pumped full of drugs, hormones, etc... which isnt natural and we eat that, which then leads to disease... causing and creating MORE problems!!!
3:25 Dude...he just extended the suffering of that chicken...Still. Chickens are animals raised for food, and food alone. They have no other purpose Same with cows and pigs. I admit they could kill them in a less painful and humane way. Yet still. Meat is a much needed food item. Soy junk can't replace it. "Compassion over killing" is not required. nor is PETA or any other thing. The only animals needed for food is Cows,Pigs and Chickens.
Not true. Chickens aren't just some dumbass animals like ur fat mom, they have emotions and can recognize facial expressions. They can even make friends! They can even make friends with other birds that aren't chickens! Tests have shown that an average chicken is as smart or smarter than the average dog or cat. They are not "animals raised for food, and food alone." They would live happily if It wasn't for Colonel Fucking Sanders! You think chickens are just a resource? Go fuck yourself!!!!!!!!!
I knew i'd get something like this. I did not say chickens have no emotions, i know they do, just saying, they are animals raised for food, they have emotions yes, But they are food and food alone.
The sole reason for cruelty to animals in the meat industry is greed. They'll cut any corner to increase profits. I eat meat but I would muchly desire that they treat animals well before they kill them. I refuse to eat at KFC but it's hard to tell who gets their meat from where.
I agree that those conditions are pretty deplorable. Chickens should be able to roam freely in the open meadow and graze out in the fresh air (fenced in, of course) but able to roam about freely the in the sun. I understand that free range chickens taste much better.
omg can people not let chickens grow naturally and let them run outside in fresh clean air, eat clean food instead of drugging them with medicines to grow bigger, keeping them in sheds and make them live in filth!!!
@xxxskaterpunkxxxx Your comment clearly shows that you have no clue about anything related to farming. There is 6.7 billion people in the world, with only so much crop land. Then someone like you makes a rediculous comment asking why we cant just let them run outside. Good solution smartass, just put up some fence and put a few chickens in there. If thats what all farmers did, I can guarantee you that we would not have enough food to feed over 10 million people. Good effort tho
How can people stomach this kind of cruelty? Sometimes, i feel that it is not harsh for these proprietors to experience the same kind of extremely harsh conditions these chickens are exposed to. It never ceases to amaze me.. the acts of cruelty and apathy one can perform for the sake of Money.
chickens that lay eggs are not more happy that this chickens you should investigate about it and go VEGAN meat industries had lied about the benefits of eating meat,

Here is a list of reasons for any fish or meat-eaters to consider stop the eating of meat:
1. Lives come before pleasure
2. It is natural and justified for a species to eat another for survival.
3. You don't need to eat meat for survival.
4. You eat meat for pleasure
5. Your pleasure of meat results in loss of life
6. You contradict the first statement which I'm sure anyone agrees with.
This is why humanity should stop eating meat especially the less dependent on meat in more richer countries.

Many chicken breeds are bred only for show.
Many have been my companions. That's right, you're talking to a chicken lover. Who kept them for pets.
If you need meat chickens, use actual breeds, not a foolish cross like the Cornish/Rock cross that causes the defects in the legs.
Let us be humane to all animals! <3
