I had a few chickens donated to me with the property I rent. The chickens weren't treated very nicely before but nothing compared to these birds. I have no plans to eat them and feed them very well and they run around and do as they wish. One chicken had two babies and they are now four months and still small and wiry. I have never fed them anything medicated and never will. They think of me like some sort of food angel when they see me and I cannot fathom hurting one. They are so trusting

I have no issues with eating animals which were raised in a healthy, no stress and clean environment.

But I have serious issues with animals being cross-breed in such a way which causes frequent congenital defects causing pain - and being raised in overcrowded and unhygienic conditions which cause pain, distress and premature death.

This is simply not acceptable and should be opposed to the point of stopping it through law.

I never once said that vegeterians are better than anyone else, I was pointing out some moral reasons but if going vegeterian was unhealthy for her then it was justifiable for her to eat meat in order to be healthy, but you have to remember there r countless animals dying and going through pain out there and to use an excuse of guilt onto me isn't fair If I were to do that I could go on about how sum1 has become fat frm meat bt I wont

I've personally seen turkey farms w/ similar circumstances. Fortunately the farms I know do allow for an outside area so they can at least have some exercise (very little since leg problems are real). These farmers keep the doors open unless there is a major storm & do rake out the enclosure. This is at least humane treatment if not humane breeding. Many farmers are given specific poultry to raise and have no real say except how they take care of them. The company owns the meat from day 1.

My ex grew up on a farm, shot things, gutted them, ate them. She was by no means sentimental about animals. She worked one day on a broiler unit and quit - and never ate cheap chicken again. My mate had bantams, and though they weren't exactly brainy, you couldn't imagine condemning them to a life crowded into a dark, stinking barn.

It doesn't have to be like this. Lower stocking levels, natural light, stuff for the birds to play with, and a slower growth rate would make a huge difference.

Predator and Prey. you are either one or the other. you can easily identify the predator by their forward facing eyes, excellent vision, pointed teeth with thin enamel, and larger brain. Prey has eye's on the side of their head to give them a better field of vision to watch out, smaller brains, and thick enamel so the dirt dosent wear through. Which one are you?

Many have been my companions. That's right, you're talking to a chicken lover. Who kept them for pets.

If you need meat chickens, use actual breeds, not a foolish cross like the Cornish/Rock cross that causes the defects in the legs.

There are other ways of rearing without the cruelty- the cruelty is not needed, and for you to say dont fall back on emotion- shows no concern for the health of the animal or the health of yourself. They are pumped full of drugs, hormones, etc... which isnt natural and we eat that, which then leads to disease... causing and creating MORE problems!!!

Not true. Chickens aren't just some dumbass animals like ur fat mom, they have emotions and can recognize facial expressions. They can even make friends! I agree that those conditions are pretty deplorable. Chickens should be able to roam freely in the open meadow and graze out in the fresh air (fenced in, of course) but able to roam about freely the in the sun. I understand that free range chickens taste much better.
