  • ok so this is a dumb question but i cant think of the name of this song!! someone help please

  • I got to shake Victor Wooten's hand once....I nearly pooped.

  • Is Vic wearing Future Man's Hat? It looks like a Galactic Crown..lol

  • ..then there was Ray

  • spot the bass player yet?

  • @tyxxzy

All three of them are Bass players, and plays the bass in this video.

  • Bass Porn...

  • @cazgem1 That explains a lot about what I'm feeling right now actually...

  • All of them are crazy good!

  • We miss you Mr Brown ! !

  • its like everthing a bass player could want: a amazing bass player doing arco, a legendary bass player doing pizz, and possibly the best electric bass player of our time, all playing on the same stage at the same time. (R.I.P. Ray Brown)

  • I Love That Slap On The G# It Sounds So Crisp !

  • ray browns transitions to thumb position is amazing

  • One person is a violinist

  • WHO THE FUCK DISLIKED THIS? WHOEVER THEY ARE THEY NEED TO DIE

  • Love it!

  • Edgar Meyer amazing classical abilities uses in jazz, Ray Brown 100% pure jazz virtuoso, Victor Wooten great soloing but minus for not playing basline during Ray Brown solo or maybe he was just so impressed and keep on stering. Great technique but I don't like the sound of his bass instead of Marus Miller :-) It's my private and humble opinion.

  • @dobrodek meyer played the bassline.. wooten just gave the occasional buh-dum... they are professionals at improv :)

  • that is better than smw !!!!

  • @Gabepaullikegirls The vast majority of Vic's playing on Youtube is NAMM footage or just the fastest slap section from a gig, if you want to get a better view of his playing listen to the Flecktones or Extraction with Greg Howe, in both of those groups he still solos alot but lays down some fuckin' solid bass the vast majority of the time.

  • @benzies123 Fuck yeah!!!! Those albums are epic. Can't forget Vital Tech Tones!

  • I jammed with Ray Brown In Buffalo NY in the Kit Kat Club in 1968!

    What a great guy!

  • @Dust6chap6 I envy you!!! lol That had to be the greatest life experience ever.

  • jazzpsalti.......you got it right. sounds like you are a player. dig.

  • um....it jazz. That pretty much means improv. If you look at the history of the jazz guitar and you get stuck pre 1940...the role of the guitar (banjo thing and up to the archtop) was pretty much to act as a rhythm instrument or snare. Progress my friend. The role of the bass is to hold down the fort, but my guess it is bc that is what the left hand does on the piano.

Its all about interplay anyway not just being some douche behind the scenes.

  • @Gabepaullikegirls While i think the comment about vic was unnecessary, I completely agree with you. It is the main function of the bass, to keep time and underline the harmony. Its one of the hardest roles in a jazz ensemble.

  • @Gabepaullikegirls Anyway you're clearly just fresh out of music school and have all these ideas your teachers told you about what bass is and how bass is played. So I'm not going to waste any more time with you, though I will say I hope you apologize to all the great video posters whose videos you've shat upon. you know, when you come to your senses.

  • @Gabepaullikegirls no, vic knows harmony fairly well, so what if his method of accompaniment is unorthodox? So was Eddie Gomez in his day

  • @Gabepaullikegirls I know educated jazz bassists. They understand that there's more to the bass than what you're taught in jazz school. Someday you'll get over this, and realize what a complete tool you were on youtube.

  • @Gabepaullikegirls you sir are a jazz troll. The worst kind of troll, because it means you try to be smart. Can you post your address so we can all fly to your town and beat the shit out of you? thx fatty

  • i might have just jazzed my pants...

  • I WANT Vic's hat... also the ability to play bass that well, but playing aside, wicked hat.

  • I absolutely love Edgar and Victor, but Mr Brown is a sensuround Experience! I would go see him at the Imax. :-D

  • Me, too!

  • Comment removed

  • Lonesome Pine Special from Louisville, KY 1991. I saw it on the local PBS channel shortly thereafter. I pull it up every week or two when I want to be entertained-and humbled.

  • When it comes to tone and feel, Ray easily demonstrates here why he's the king of bass. Edgar and Victor have chops to burn, don't get me wrong, it's just Ray's sound is, well, better.

  • @jazzman31415 That's because he's every modern bassists' father!

  • @jazzman31415 Your right. This is Ray's bag though where as it isn't as much for edgar and victor. I find Edgar's pizz tone really annoying in this actually.

  • @Kitschead you joking? edgars is the best

  • @jazzman31415

Well I'd say Wooten has something completely different going on.

And Meyer has INSANE range and can still maintain quality.

  • This is insane! Does anyone know what year this is from?

  • Search for this on youtube: Jazz bass lesson -Milt Hinton, jazz, classic

  • It would have been cool if Milt Hinton would have been thrown in the mix. Pops could really slap on a dog house. He created some very cool techniques and styles. He's got some cool clips on here too!

  • Ray is my favorite bassist, top of the list, god among men.

I gotta say though, Edgar really really tore it up too. his arco stuff is so incredible.

not to leave anybody out, Victor certainly had some nice staight ahead moments too

  • thats what i call a threesome right there

  • This is just SOOOOOOO RIGHT!!!!! :)

  • Badd Ass Ray!!!

  • sister sadie

  • ray brown: always the best

  • dude, is it just me or is Ray's tone putting Vic and Edgar to shame? seriously, i love his bass.

  • @bassboy14110 Victor's sound is not ' clean' how a "high end" bass tone sounds that bad ? ( don't get me wrong I like Victor, but here, he is so so )

  • wow!!! my three favourite bassists!!

  • Ray Brown's huge sound, in-the-pocket groove, and signature tasteful lines are what makes him THE patriarch of the bass!

  • how the fuck did he do that at 0:35 it was like cross fret vibrato....

  • This is a great piece

  • except the cream is in the wrong place. ahh!

  • man, i actually like wooten by himselt.. but he kinda dampens this performance. dont throw a slap bass enthusiat in with legends like ray and edgar..

  • I hate Wooten's sound. The fullbodied and swinging ray brown ... and then that TICKIN wooten :(

  • @paulibaer So right - Ticking, buzzy, thin, and he's not in the pocket with Ray's groove either. Wooten just seems mediocre here. Yet in his own projects he's one of the very greatest, with chops to die for. I guess anybody can have a bad night.

  • @childsplaymusic au contraire, I thought that all that really added effect man, it was a really funky jazz improv, which is what he is known for, but ya, Ray Brown can make anyone sound like they are having the worst night of their lives, haha

  • omg edgar meyer kicks so much fucking ass

  • I love the three of them!!!!!

who knows of a video on bass tremelo

    tech for the bow?

  • great the solo with the bow...!

  • My ears had a orgasm

  • @CloudNine01

    its called an eargasm.

  • @CloudNine01 LOLOL! I hear ya' Buddy! :-D

I have multiple ones every time I hear this!

    WOOOHOOOO! RAYYYYYEAHHHHHHH!!!!!

I'm a one man football wave for Ray!

All 3 are spectacular, but Ray is the original, and just sooo freakin' good!!!!!!

    :-))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

  • @CloudNine01 - eargasm?

  • @CloudNine01 Eargasm...

  • Damn I haven't seen this in years...

  • man i know i'm just repeatin common knowledge by know, but nobody touches ray browns time. Nobody.

  • now*

  • Three legendary bass players. Thank you for posting this video. Ray Brown a jazz legend. Edgar Meyer an amazing cross over artist in classical and bluegrass/jazz. Victor Wooton one of, if not, the best electric players alive.

This video is a treat for any bass player.

  • whoa...

  • Most impressive!!!!

  • this is just sick....i wish i have my bass with me right now :'(

  • I love Meyer's glissando slides.

  • It's really much simpler than that. Victor's the best electric bassist, Meyer's the best classical bassist, and Brown is the best Jazz bassist. That's why it's so cool having all three in one video. Some of these comments I've read sound like they were written by people who measure their penis daily.

  • The Oldest the Best ( just joking) with out hurting any one

feelings Ray Brown is the man in this video .

  • ive never heard mayer befor but as abeggining double bassist that was a sick bowed solo. i realy need to get past second position haha

  • "ray brown has some chops but he is not even in the same ballpark as wooten or Meyer"

That's the dumbest thing I think I've ever heard anyone say.

Ray Brown is one of the finest bassists that has ever played the instrument; a body of work spanning sixty years. They are all good, why say something so ignorant. haha

Listen to his work on "After Hours" with Andre Previn just for starters . I've seen him up close live and he's got more rhythm in his little finger than I've got in my whole body.

  • victor wooten is just making a fool of himself next to ray brown

  • now you are making a fool of yourself

"ray brown has some chops but he is not even in the same ballpark as wooten or Meyer"

    "and the ability level..."

  • Do you know who is Ray Brown? Victor and Edgar (and every jazz bassist nowadays) would not exist if Ray weren't playing since the forties with Dizzy.

  • yea wooten obviously brought out his best stuff right there.

"jsxtal has not uploaded any videos" - a nice way to prove yourself, i think

  • @jsxtal Who WOULDN'T make a fool of themselves next to Ray? Only person I've ever seen that could stand toe to toe with Ray was Niels-Henning. I prefer Niels, but both were the kings of upright. I mean they were so good Oscar Peterson couldn't even chose which one to take on tours, so he would take em both! haha

  • God Bless you Ray Brown... simply awesome... 3 awesome bass players... 3 different schools... ONE awesome... show!

  • what guitar does victor wooten use here? what brad?

    jazz bass or precition?

  • fodera monarch

  • Neither, a Fodera.

If you want one you'd better re-mortgage.

  • This is great.

  • bass porn

  • hmm i think tal wikenfield is up in the top 10..

  • top notch vid

    7 stars

  • Ray Brown is a ridiculously good bassist

  • hell yea

  • Edgar Meyer can take him any day.

  • Now these guys know their instruments

  • oh my god Edgar is looking so white here lol. he looks like he souldn't swing if he was hanging from a chandelier, lol good job mate!

  • Is this "Sister Sadie"?

  • It sure does sound like it. I think it is definitely an arrangement of it. I like it.

  • I'm not liking Victor's tone here.

  • yea i know...its those basses he uses...The action is so low it creates ridiculous buzzing

  • i really love edgars playing, but i really dont like his improvising:(

  • i didn't know edgar meyer could swing. great great video, thanks for posting.

  • Ray kicks some ass, too swinging for either one of them!!!!

  • Holy God what a performance!

    Thanks for posting

  • Lonesome Pine Special, 1992, season 4, episode 6. This was amazing then, and it still is!

  • Holy crap, I've never seen this before! Amazing.

  • All three of those cats rule! Thanks for posting this!

  • every thing that victor playing turns to gold in music.thats why his music is like gold like his bass :)

  • Meyer is amazing!

  • ray is the man!

  • wow this guy is impressive...how versatile he can get...

  • nice

  • All Stars.. Great!

  • i love this vid
