Interesting how the audience couldn't contain themselves after Ian's drum solo. You're not supposed to clap until the movement is over, and they did not clap between the previous movements, but they lost it here. (:
@VideoMask93 At symphonies or orchestras? It is custom not to applaud at any time during a movement, so I haven't experienced it. I was strictly taught and even at an outdoor event the staff went around telling the young people not to clap during a movement. So I've never experienced that. But sure, it's hard to resist applauding a solo since it would emphasize the solo person and not everybody at the end of the movement. I don't really care, Ian Paice is awesome.
@Grendelmonster8u Okay, you got me there. My experience is mostly in musical theatre, and at my college's latest production, a girl did so well in a company piece (she had a solo role with really high notes) that people applauded before the song was over.
it is fascinating to see, that lots of people like this music too :-) Over 12.000 is a really crowd :-) I was very young 1969, loved this, and thought to wander on the path a little bit alone. To see the visitors of this "strange" Purple concert, makes me smile. To see me nowadays too, sometimes :-)))
WOW! Remember a time when people gave a shit about music and there were brilliant performers who were constantly trying new sounds and innovations? Gee what's going to last forever, masterpieces by amazing bands like Purple or boring ass, unoriginal rap music or Lady Gaga bullshit?
@russianimp1 I think Gaga needs to make use of her musical chops. She has definite talent; you can hear it. The only problem is that her Stealth Parody style has largely backfired, and she's now the poster child of the culture she satirizes.
Doesn't life suck when your speakers only go too 10!
Shame they cut Ian Paice's solo though and miss the best bit, other than that the best line up ever!
This needs doing again, was a great idea then and still is now. I got this on vinyl when it came out and DVD a while ago didn't realise it was sooo old, but then so must I be too lol.
Incredibile... Penso che la Musica debba essere un esempio di unione e coesione, condivisione e umiltà.. Ed invece ad oggi sembra che esista solo il voler divenire noto senza sapere neache cosa è la Musica..
Ian Paice on the drums! YES!!!! Get the CD...there is an entire part of the drum solo edited out of the video. It is quite amazing. Jon Lord also explains the near-fiasco of the two cowbell parts. Yes...more cowbell! ;)
I heard it said by many jazz drummers that rock drummers were no good!!..well they should take a look at this??!..(also the guys in the orchestra don't have an easy time of it either!)).
Jon Lord can preserve me anytime ;)

@Grendelmonster8u That kinda stuff happens often in my experience. If something awesome happens, people will applaud.

A few things from a percussionist...
1.) Wicked cool timpani part
2.) wicked cool percussion writing
3.) Totally wicked drum solo
4.) Wicked mutton chops on the snare drummer.
