FFS, keep the awful prequels well away from the original trilogy. There wasn't anything going through Vader's mind, he was just obeying his master, the Emperor. Eventually, Luke's cries tug at Vader's long-lost heartstrings, and he saves his son.
The idea is good, but the problem is that other than the spokens cene with Anakin and Padme on Geonosis, none of the scenes had Anakin involved. he never saw Padme's funeral, he never saw Obi Wan battle Grievous and he never ever saw the twins being born. Still, the idea is good.
"i've made mistakes, killed padme, betray the jedi order, i'm not gonna lose my son now cause that's the only one i have left with my side, palpantine is responsible" *throws him*
This is really wonderful...I've always wondered what might have gone through Darth Vader's mind when Luke was being tortured, and the clips you used really made a strong, emotional impact. Remembering Padme, the love that he once had, and finally realizing enough was enough, and saving his son...very strong.
@vadersucksass Totally agree with you there. Luke had already tried to reach out to him, and was flat out begging for his help, so I think he had an understanding and acceptance for Vader that others wouldn't understand. Also, his Vader's *son*. Vader finally snapped out of it and did what any father would do - save his son because he loves him.

Vader gave up, but Luke kept striking him. But it's always interesting that the title: Return of the Jedi, referred to Anakin Skywalker

@suemorphplus2009 in all my years as a Star Wars fan, this never popped into my head. Makes it even more poetic.

@SuzieGuru i think he saved Luke because he was the last link to his family that really understood him.
